Ukrainian Railways upgrade locomotive fleet

In 2014 the top priority for State Administration of Railroad Transport of Ukraine (UZ) is to upgrade the locomotive fleet, including purchase of 59 freight locomotives. This is the largest number of locomotives to be purchased by UZ during one year since inception, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.
Most of the locomotives will be manufactured by Luganskteplovoz (Lugansk Locomotive Factory), the largest manufacturer of traction rolling stock in Ukraine and Eastern Europe. In total, in accordance with the contract with Luganskteplovoz  through 2016, the UZ will get 300 electric freight locomotives for over 12 billion UAH.
In fact, the contract stipulates that locomotive systems, components and assemblies should be supplied by Ukrainian companies as much as possible. Localization of production in 2014 is 30-40%, and by 2015 it should reach about 80%.
Also, UZ continues cooperation with Skoda Transportation (Czech Republic) to launch production of modern electric locomotives in Zaporizhzhia (investment in construction and production equipment will be over 1 billion UAH). It is planned that the shop to produce electric locomotives will be built at the Zaporizhzhya electric locomotive plant in 2014. It is expected that 350 Ukrainian experts should be involved in manufacturing dual-voltage electric locomotives at the joint Ukrainian-Czech company in 2015.

Six of the biggest sports arenas in Ukraine set up Ukrainian public organization “Association of Ukrainian sports facilities” to collectively solve problems of operation, development, promotion and protection of the interests of all forms of ownership at the national level.
According to the report , co-founders of the organization are SE ” National Sports Complex (NSC) “Olympiysky”, SE “Sports Palace” (Kyiv), FC “Metalist ” (Kharkiv), LLC” Donbass Arena “(Donetsk) and SE “Arena Lviv” (Lviv).

Regional Development Ministry develops rural mortgage programs

Under Own Home, a program aimed to support construction of individual housing in rural areas and to improve living conditions of rural population, 85,800 m2 of apartment buildings were commissioned and 3,105 of previously built estates were gasified in 2013. The announcement was made by Gennady Temnik, Acting Minister of Regional Development, Construction, and Housing-Communal Services, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.
According to preliminary data, about 1,300 families benefited from the Own Home program, and in 2014, the appropriated funding will allow to provide assistance to 3,000 more families. In 2013, the largest soft loans were issued in Vinnitsa, Zaporozhe, Kherson, Chernigov, and Odessa regions.
According to experts, the Own Home program provides to Ukrainian citizens residing in villages and employed by local authorities and AIC enterprises have the right for a soft state loan at 3% per annum: for up to 20 years for individual builders and for up to 30 years – for young or single-parent families, where age of each spouse/parent does not exceed 35 years

NBU makes official hryvnia exchange rate more flexible

The new official hryvnia exchange rate is in line with market indicators, director of the chief monetary and credit policy department at the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Olena Scherbakova said at a press conference on Friday.
“The official exchange rate should change every day,” she said.
Scherbakova said that the NBU has a system which at the end of the day presents the average exchange rate on the market: yesterday it showed UAH 8.70/$1, and the NBU set the relevant exchange rate.
She said that the criteria for the possible deviation of the official exchange rate from the market rate of 2% is retained, although the NBU now plans to set the official exchange rate as close as possible to the interbank indicators.
Scherbakova said that the NBU would be as transparent and open as possible for the market.

Ukrainian meat market shows stable growth

Agricultural analysts note the growing interest of investors to development of pig farming in Ukraine, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.
Thus, agricultural holding BEZRK-Belgrankorm (RF) announced its plans to build a pig farm for 15,000 heads/25,000 tons annually at Belgrankorm-Poltavschina Ltd. (Poltava region). The decision was made by the Russian agricultural holding on the basis of performance of its Ukrainian subsidiary. In 2013, Poltava facilities of the Russian agricultural holding became the most profitable. Ukraine hosts three companies of the agricultural holding: Belgrankorm-Poltavschina (pig farming complex), Yasnye Zori-Poltavschina (processing plant), and Gromada-Agro (plant growing).
The profits of the Ukrainian subsidiary of the Russian agricultural holding from pig farming  (10.300 tons annually) was over 300 million rubles (about 8.5 million USD), taking into account compensations and subsidies provided by Ukrainian authorities. For comparison, the same profit was received by Belgorod enterprises from producing 38,400 tons of pork.
Much more extensive plans are made by Seaboard Foods Company (agricultural unit of Seaboard Corporation included in Fortune 500), the second largest pork producer in the United States. The revenue of Seaboard Foods in 2012 was over 2 billion USD annually.
Seaboard Foods intends to work with Kernel holding and build the largest pig farm in Kharkiv region.
Investors are planning to invest 600 million USD in a pig farm and 100 million USD in a meat-packing plant.

There is no outflow of hryvnia deposits in Ukrainian banks, deputy director of the Research Centre of the National Bank of Ukraine Natalia Slovyanska declared, ForUm correspondent reports. 
She noted that in general, in 2013, there was a tendency of increase of hryvnia deposits. “There is no outflow. As of today, even taken into account the recent events on the currency market, there is no outflow of hryvnia deposits,” she stressed.

National Bank urges Ukrainians not to create hype around hryvnia rate

Ukrainians should not create hype around the situation on the currency market, deputy director of the Research Centre of the National Bank of Ukraine Viktor Kravets said during the roundtable, ForUm correspondent reports. 
He noted that money liked peace and quiet. “So when the situation is calm, the money remains in any currency without fluctuations and problems. When it is not calm, the problems begin,” the expert said.
The financier urged everyone to be calm.

Yanukovych visits Ukrainian Olympians to boost their morale

President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych wished Ukrainian athletes success and victories at the XXII Winter Olympics in Sochi.
“I wish you to achieve everything you want. This moment of your life creates conditions for you to achieve the desired sports peak,” Viktor Yanukovych said in the course of the meeting with members of the Ukrainian Olympic team in Sochi, President’s press office informs.
The Head of State noted that he had come to meet with the Ukrainian team, to support and boost the morale of athletes. He also wished them to always achieve their goals. According to the President, character and will to win shall help the Olympians.
Viktor Yanukovych says that he will root for the Ukrainian team. “We will watch, support and help you move forward,” the President noted.
On behalf of the athletes, Acting Minister of Youth and Sports Ravil Safiullin expressed gratitude for the support of sports in general and of the Olympic team in particular. He stressed that the State Budget 2014 provides for the increase of sports funding in Ukraine almost by 20%.
Ravil Safiullin emphasizes that the team has held all the necessary trainings in the course of its preparation to the Olympic Games. “The state has fulfilled its obligations. In 3 years, it has allocated 109 million UAH,” he said.
Head of National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Serhiy Bubka noted that the Ukrainian team is represented by 43 athletes. He expressed gratefulness to the President for his support of sports and Olympian movement. “I would like to express gratefulness for the support of sports and Olympian movement. We feel it. Thank you for coming to support us,” S. Bubka said.
