86 million UAH allocated for land-protection activities

86 million UAH allocated for land-protection activities

The issue of land protection and its rational use is extremely important and urgent both in Ukraine and worldwide. This was mentioned by experts, who evaluated the land-protection activities carried out in Ukraine in 2013, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.
According to State Agency on Land Resources of Ukraine, in 2013, 1,300 hectares of land were preserved: 911.7 hectares by reforestation, and 351.5 hectares by grassing. 22,200 hectares of land are still at preservation stage.
Over the past year, 636.3 hectares of damaged land (including over 68% of farmland) were re-cultivated. The total area under remediation is over 7,000 hectares.
In particular, 3,100 hectares of unproductive land were improved. 2,600 hectares of land are under improvement (including 38% of plough land).
In general, during 2013, a construction and reconstruction of anti-erosion hydro-technical facilities 2.4 km long was carried out on a total area of 15.6 hectares. 19 facilities are under construction.
Experts note that, land-protection activities cost 86.6 million UAH in 2013.
Some 26.5 million UAH were allocated for protection and restoring of land as a compensation for agricultural and forestry losses. Also, according to regional programs, 60.1 million UAH were allocated for land protection in 2013.
