Merkel injured skiing, cancels meetings

German Chancellor Angela Merkel was injured in a fall while cross-country skiing in Switzerland over the winter holidays and has cancelled meetings in the next three weeks, her spokesman said Monday, AFP reports.
Steffen Seibert told reporters that Merkel had suffered a fractured pelvis and must lie down as much as possible. She will work from home during this period.

Lviv is among the top ten cities in the world worth visiting in 2014, according to the famous British publisher of travel and reference guides The Rough Guide.
Lviv ranked the fifth place in the ranking of world cities worth visiting this year. The Ukrainian city was in the list of famous tourist cities along with Liverpool, Marseille, Rio de Janeiro and Portland.
Lviv is surrounded by fields and woods in the far west of Ukraine. Lviv is a small city with the global influence.
The Rough Guide is one of the leading guides around the world, the first edition of which was published in 1982.

Cabinet drafts concept of rural development

The Agrarian Policy Ministry drafts a concept of rural development for the period up to 2025, which will ensure the maximum development of rural areas in all regions, agrarian policy and food minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk stated, the press service of the Agrarian Policy Ministry reported.
“President Viktor Yanukovych noted that solution of problems concerning rural development should be a separate issue for the state. Indeed, there are more than 28 thousand rural settlements in Ukraine, where the third part of population lives. Of course, the development of these areas is not just an issue of agriculture. However, the government, in particular, the Agrarian Policy Ministry, continues to work on resolving this issue,” Prysiazhniuk said.
The minister said that the Agrarian Policy Ministry continues to develop a new conceptual document. “We are working on a project for rural development concept. This document covers the period up to 2025. It will differ from previous similar programs. In particular, after the adoption of this document the local rural development strategies will be worked out. They will be adopted by the relevant local councils,” Prysiazhniuk noted.

A car exploded in the Vyshnyakovska street of the Darnytsky district in Kyiv, the press service of the Interior Ministry told ForUm.

Unknown persons broke down a door to the storeroom of the Kyiv City Council, where award products, including medals, certificates to them and honorary certificates, were kept.
According to the press service of the KCSA with reference to employees of personnel work department of the Kyiv City Council (Kyiv City State Administration), a part of the packages with medals was removed from the storeroom, where they were kept, and was scattered in the in neighbouring rooms and on the stairs.
Deputy head of the award department Valentyna Bebko said that the department employees found about 100 boxes of medals and certificates in a storeroom of the dining room. Now they put things in order, assort the trash to be able to list the awards and determine what disappeared.
Now, the law enforcement officers investigate this issue to find out who broke down the door and scattered the bags with awards.

Pension Fund: January pensions will be paid in due time

The payment of pensions in January 2014 will be made in a timely manner, the press service of the Pension Fund reports.
“This year the first week of January, when the payment of pensions begins, is the days off. However, so that citizens could not feel any discomfort, about UAH 2.4 billion was transferred to post offices and bank branches on December 30, 2013 in order to ensure these payments,” the press office informed.
The post offices will start the payment on January 4 and will also work on January 6. As for the Pension Fund, it will work on January 3, and on the same day it will continue financing the payment of pensions.
