MP: Pro-government rally to last until situation in country is stabilized

Rally in support of the government in Yevropeiska Square in Kyiv will be termless, said Ukrainian MP from the Party of Regions faction Mykhailo Chechetov.
“Our peace rally is termless, it will continue as long as there is no stabilized situation in the country,” Chechetov said, speaking to rally participants on Saturday.
He noted that the Party of Regions stands for maintenance of peace and public order, preventing an escalation of the conflict and division of the country.

Barricades at intersection of Khreshchatyk, Khmelnytsky streets expanded

Barricades at the intersection of Khreshchatyk Street and Khmelnytsky Street have been expanded, ForUm correspondent reports.
 
In particular, the protesters built additional barricades on the sidewalks from snow, boards, tires, tires, etc. Entrances to the underground passage from Khreshchatyk Street are blocked.
However, the passage for ambulances and special services is left. Warming center and kitchen set up near the barricades.

CEC ready for repeated elections in five constituencies

CEC ready for repeated elections in five constituencies

The Central Election Commission has completed all the procedures of preparation for repeated parliamentary elections in five constituencies, CEC chairman Mykhailo Okhendovsky said.
This was discussed during the meeting on Friday with a group of observers from the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, headed by deputy head of the Department for European and Eurasian Affairs of the organization Katie Fox, the CEC press service reports.
As Okhendovsky noted, all election commissions were formed in accordance with the law, the ballots were printed and promptly transferred to the precinct commissions, voting papers were already delivered at the polling stations.
Okhendovsky also met with the ad hoc working group of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to monitor the repeated elections holding.
PACE representatives expressed satisfaction with the preparations for the elections.

Maidan activists try to go to pro-government rally

A group of activists from the Maidan Nezalezhnosti tried to go to the pro-government rally held in Yevropeiska Square, ForUm correspondent reports.
 Maidan activists stopped at the police cordon, which separates the two rallies, and argue that they just came to talk and “lure” on their side protesters, and do not plan clashes or fights. They chant “Donbass and Crimea, join us!”
The law enforcement officers say that the entrance to the Yevropeiska area is restricted and is allowed only for the participants of the rally in support of the government and journalists.

Activists call on rallies’ participants to reach compromise

Action “We are for peace” is being held in Khreshchatyk Street in Kyiv between the two rallies, ForUm correspondent reports.
 
Activists urge protesters to stop confrontation and find a compromise in peaceful way. Participants in the action are mostly women and young girls.
 
They are chanting “The West and the East together,” “Welcome to Kyiv”. They also invited the protesters from both camps to join the action.

President suspends Popov, Sivkovych from offices

President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has suspended Volodymyr Sivkovych from office of the deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and Oleksandr Popov from office of the head of the Kyiv City State Administration on motions of the Prosecutor General’s Office on suspicion of involvement of these officials in violation of the constitutional rights of citizens on November 30, 2013 in Maidan Nezalezhnosti Square in Kyiv, ForUm learned from the President’s press office.
“President hopes that the Prosecutor General’s Office will conduct objective and comprehensive investigation into those events and offer specific legal response to committed unlawful acts,” the statement says.
The Head of State also offers the law enforcement agencies to investigate openly and transparently and to put an end to this issue.
President notes that there should be no exceptions for any state officials in matters of responsibility for illegal actions.

Suspects for abuse of power during Maidan events named

Officers of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine handed a notification on suspicion of abuse of power during the events at night on November 30, 2013 in the Maidan Nezalezhnosti Square to deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Volodymyr Sivkovych, head of the Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov, the then head of Kyiv police Valeriy Koriak and deputy head of Kyiv police Petro Fedchuk.
This was announced by Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Pshonka at briefing in Kyiv on Saturday.
“Yesterday I personally informed the head of state on this… the president gave his accord to the suspension of them from the posts they run,” he said, Interfax-Ukraine informs.
Pshonka said that today Koriak and his deputy Fedchuk were also notified about the suspicion of abuse of power.
“All four officials will soon be placed under home arrest,” Pshonka said.
He said that the investigators established that at night from November 29 to November 30 Sivkovych and Popov were staying at the cabinet of Head of the Chief Department of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine in Kyiv Koriak.
“They asked him [Koriak] to use force [to disperse the Euromaidan],” he said.
Pshonka added that initially Sivkovych visited Popov with the said purpose and then he called Koriak and later he arrived to his cabinet.
He reminded that Koriak was suspended from performing his duties by Interior Minister of Ukraine Vitaliy Zakharchenko.
