Ivchenko: AA to improve economic situation in Ukraine

Ivchenko: AA to improve economic situation in Ukraine

The signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union will have a positive impact on the economic situation in Ukraine, but only under condition that the trade relations with Russia will be established, head of the information and analytical center FOREX CLUB of Ukraine Mykola Ivchenko told journalists, ForUm correspondent reports.
“Russia has 27% of exports. If the pressure from Russia disappears and there are no problems with the export, then, of course, the very fact of signing the Agreement is a positive signal to investors. We can expect the increase in flow of investments and loans to the real sector of the economy and to the banking sector from Europe,” he said.
At the same time, the expert stressed that in this case the issue is to find the trade balance between Ukraine and the countries of the Customs Union.

PGO to ask US to extradite Melnyk

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine, despite the absence of an extradition treaty between Ukraine and the United States, will send a request to the United States for legal assistance in conducting investigative measures with former rector of the National University of the State Tax Service Petro Melnyk, the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office told UNIAN.
The press service noted that the PGO asked the U.S. counterparts to inform on what documents the ex-rector crossed the border and on what grounds he is currently located in the United States.
The Ukrainian party also requested to assist in conducting a number of investigations in the U.S.
The agency noted that Ukraine has no right to send an extradition request to the United States for Melnyk’s extradition, as there is no international document regulating extradition.
However, the press service said that the Prosecutor General’s Office would ask the United States to extradite the ex-rector on other grounds.
“Despite the absence of an extradition agreement, the next step will be an application for Melnyk’s extradition on terms of reciprocity,” reads the statement.
But the press service did not specify when exactly the request will be sent and what conditions will be specified.

The Prosecutor General’s Office also reported that a request had been sent to the United States for legal assistance in the criminal proceedings opened against Melnyk.
At the same time, Moskal said the former rector had left for the United States as a citizen of a Baltic republic, rather than as a Ukrainian, with the passport of that country.
