Fesenko: Moscow’s ban on sweets is just the beginning of trade wars

In the near future, “trade wars” with Russia may intensify, head of the Penta Center for Applied Political Studies Volodymyr Fesenko said during the roundtable, ForUm correspondent reports.
According to the expert, the ban on supply of the domestic production of Roshen is a signal for other Ukrainian businessmen working in Russia.
“There are reasons to believe that the new protective measures against our confectionery products and pipes are just the beginning of the next wave of trade wars. And the motivation is not economic but political,” the expert said.
He added that Moscow’s trade wars and closing of the market for domestic goods can have two purposes, including failure to sign the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union and the concealment of inefficient development of the Customs Union.

Ustenko: Moscow’s ban on import of sweets politically motivated

Russia’s ban on the supply of confectionery products from Ukraine is rather political than economical issue, executive director of the International Fund Blazer Oleh Ustenko said during a roundtable, ForUm correspondent reports.
According to the expert, Moscow is trying to show that Ukraine depends rather strongly on the Russian market and the Customs Union.
He admitted that the ban on the import of domestic sweets was lobbied by the Russian confectioners, as imported products dominate on the Russian market.
According to him, Kyiv takes important steps towards the Eurasian integration. “It is immutable and important external partner, and it is necessary to conduct a balanced constructive dialogue,” he concluded.
