Animals in Kyiv zoo die from loud music, amusements, ecologist says

Animals in the capital’s zoo die prematurely because of sales points and amusements, director of the Kyiv Ecological and Cultural Center Volodymyr Boreiko told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to him, currently there are 36 sales points and 22 amusements in the territory of the Kyiv zoo, which is twice more than it was a couple of years ago. Environmentalist is convinced that this has nothing to do with environmental education of children and harms the animals.

According to Boreiko, amusements provoke noise, which interferes with proper rest of the animals, contributes to their premature aging and death. According to reference from the zoo dated 2007, 30% of the animals died for two reasons: lung inflammation and stress, caused by music.

“European zoos do not have such conditions. There are only aviaries and nature. All outlets are taken outside the territory. In my opinion, all of these entertainments couldn’t be in direct contact with wild animals,” the ecologist said.
