Slovakian ambassador: EU visa-free regime for Ukraine depends on Association

Slovakian ambassador: EU visa-free regime for Ukraine depends on Association

If the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement is signed at the summit of “Eastern Partnership” of November this year, Ukraine will be able to move faster towards visa liberalization with the EU, ambassador of Slovakia to Ukraine Pavol Hamzik told press conference “Ukraine – EU: towards a common future.”

According to the ambassador, Ukrainian citizens do not pose risk for Slovakia in terms of illegal employment. He reported that the number of Slovakian visas issued this year for Ukrainians in January- April is four times more than over the same period last year.

“We may have gone further than other countries in opening opportunities for the issuance of long-term multiple-entry visas for tourists and business people,” ambassador said.

Gamzhik believes that the European Union should be opened for the citizens of Ukraine: “We need to open the border to get closer to visa-free relations and to provide an opportunity for Ukrainian citizens to travel to the EU”.

According to the ambassador, for Slovakia, which underwent a difficult path to the EU, it is easier to understand problems of Ukraine.

“Slovakia is Ukraine’s neighbor, we have friendly and good-neighborly relations, and it is easier for us to understand the problems in Ukraine than for the old member states, as we underwent a difficult period, when negotiating for membership in the EU,” the ambassador said, adding that Slovakia would like to help Ukraine on the way.
Hamzik noted that from the point of view of Slovakia, the Association with the European Union is the path to membership.

In the case of feeling sick on the day of external independent testing (EIT), applicants will have to provide medical certificates, director of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment Iryna Zaitseva told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.
“A medical professional will be present during the testing. If you feel sick, you should contact an instructor. If a person feels very bad, it is fixed by relevant documents and is a basis for consideration of the statement of the applicant on taking part in additional session. However, the fact of feeling sick must be fixed,” she said.
According to Zaitseva, the same thing goes for feeling sick on the day of passing the EIT directly before the start of testing.
She explained that medical certificates about poor state of health will be considered by regulatory commission, which has a list of chronic diseases approved by the Health Ministry.
In addition, she said that the applicant’s statement about taking part in additional session should be submitted within five days, given the day of testing.
Zaitseva emphasized that in the case of a positive decision of the commission, an applicant will be able to pass the EIT during the additional session from July 4 to 1.

According to Khomutynnik, introduction of financial paper is a temporary norm. “This rule will run until the end of the year. Statements of threats are speculation,” he concluded.
