Issue of gas consortium remains open

Issue of gas consortium remains open

Energy and coal industry minister of Ukraine Eduard Stavytsky promised European partners transparency in decision-making concerning the development of the gas transportation system.
He said this at a briefing after participating in a roundtable discussion on the development of the gas market of Ukraine.
“We have agreed that we will act transparently in relation to each other,” the minister said.
According to him, the Ukrainian side is planning to inform European partners about all the decisions, approved by the Ukrainian Parliament, on the reform of the gas market.
Stavytsky did not answer the question about the format of the future gas consortium – bilateral between Ukraine and Russia, or trilateral – with the involvement of the EU, but noted that Kyiv sticks to the positions of European integration.
The minister also reiterated that the task of Kyiv is not only in deciding the issue of gas transportation system, but also in the development of the gas market as a whole.

Wladimir Klitschko defends heavyweight titles

Wladimir Klitschko defends heavyweight titles

Wladimir Klitschko defended the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles with ease by outclassing Francesco Pianeta in Mannheim, Germany on Saturday night, stopping the Italian in the sixth round, The Telegraph reports.
The WBO’s No 7 ranked fighter Pianeta was down in the fourth and fifth rounds, and after Klitschko had landed a good left hook to the body in the sixth, the safety-first champion finished the challenger with 25 seconds left in the round with a right hand, left cross combination.
Pianeta went down and it was over. He was peppered from start to finish in his first loss in 29 fights.
A £23 million purse has been put up by Povetkin’s manager Vladimir Hryunov for the fight to take place. Povetkin has waited over two years to challenge Klitschko.
This, again, looked like organized bullying from Klitschko, who was dominant in the opening round, landing a heavy left-right combination against the southpaw Pianeta. The champion caught the challenger with two more big rights, but the Italian landed a left hook of his own. It was one of few punches landed against the champion, always conscious of fighting at range.

Prosecutor General: Ukraine gradually implements EU requirements

Prosecutor General: Ukraine gradually implements EU requirements

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Pshonka notes progress in the implementation of the European Union requirements, necessary for the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement – the reform of the judicial system in line with international standards.
This is stated in the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office, citing the interview with Pshonka on one of the Ukrainian TV channels.
“The new Code of Criminal Procedure has already come into force. It stipulates the rules on such preventive measures, which the old one did not include. This refers to house arrest, bail, and the like,” he noted.
According to Pshonka, after the introduction of the new Code of Criminal Procedure, active work on the preparation of other laws, related to the reform of criminal justice, is going on.
“The law on advocacy is already adopted. The law on free of charge legal aid is already developed and adopted, which will be effective from January 2017,” Pshonka added.
Therefore the Prosecutor General believes that the European standards are gradually being introduced in the legislation of Ukraine.
