Justice minister: ECHR rejects most complaints of Tymoshenko

The European Court of Human Rights does not take into account most of the complaints of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, justice minister Oleksandr Lavrynovych said, commenting on the decision of the ECHR in the case of Tymoshenko.
“The preliminary familiarization with the decision of the ECHR proved that the court, after reviewing all complaints of Tymoshenko, defined most of them unacceptable. Although we still do not have the court’s decision, it has to be translated into the official language,” Lavrynovych said.
In particular, the Court declared inadmissible the complaint of Tymoshenko regarding inadequate conditions of detention and punishment, failure to provide proper medical care, the implementation of video surveillance.
The minister drew attention to the fact that the court acknowledged the absence of violations of ill-treatment during transfer to the hospital, as Tymoshenko complained to the ECHR.

Azarov intends to revive memory of all defenders killed

Prime Minister Mykola Azarov is set to revive the memory of all the people who died fighting for their country, he said at a meeting with military-patriotic organizations on Tuesday in Kyiv.
“We need to revive the memory of every person who died defending their homeland. Without this it is impossible to establish the state. If citizens do not know that there are times when it is necessary to defend this country, then what kind of state it is?” Azarov said, Ukrinform reports.
At the same time, he thanked the researchers for helping people find information about the victims of the war.
“I want to thank you on behalf of the government and on my own behalf for the work that you do. This is an extremely important work. 70 years have already passed since the end of the war, but, unfortunately, we still have a lot of missing,” the Premier noted.

Prysiazhniuk: Almost 2.1 million tons of milk produced in Ukraine since year start

Prysiazhniuk: Almost 2.1 million tons of milk produced in Ukraine since year start

Since the beginning of the year, all categories of economies have produced almost 2.1 million tons of milk, which is by 24.500 tons more than during the same period of the previous year, agricultural policy and food minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk said, Ukrinform reports.
“Since January of 2013, almost 2.1 million tons of milk have been produced by all categories of economies. And this is by 24.500 tons more than during the same period of the previous year. If to look at the categories of economies, the largest milk volumes have been produced by households – 1.5 million tons. Agricultural enterprises have produced 581 thousand tons of milk, which is also 2.8% up against the previous year,” the official noted.
In his opinion, milk production remains stable at households. An important task is raising the quality of milk from the peasants’ yards, which will ensure growth of the purchase price for milk.
Currently milk, which is purchased from households, costs on average 2.552 UAH per ton. However, this milk is of the second class. And in order that peasants received a higher price for this milk, it is necessary to raise its quality. It can be ensured by effective economic methods. Thus, the state will further compensate a cost of the individual milking installation. Since the year start, over 3 million UAH have been spent on this program,” the minister said.
He also stressed that creation of family farms and milk cooperatives will help raising the milk quality. They will promote attraction of modern technologies for milk production, thus ensuring high purchase prices for milk.

EU gives Ukraine signals about possible Association, political expert says

The fact that the negotiations between the EU and Ukraine reached the level of discussing economic issues, shows the willingness of the EU to make a positive decision on the Association. This opinion was expressed by director of the Kyiv Center for Political and Conflict Studies Mykhailo Pohrebinsky, commenting on the preliminary results of the visit of first vice Prime Minister Serhiy Arbuzov to Brussels for talks with representatives of the European Commission.

“If Europeans continue to discuss economic issues with us, they clearly demonstrate that the door to the EU is open to us, and they are ready to continue cooperation. I believe that this mode of negotiation is like training for a positive decision on the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. If such important negotiations are held at the level of first vice prime minister, yhat means that a pre-political consensus is found,” Pohrebinskiy said.
