Ukrainians can buy drugs only in pharmacy or drugstore

The medicines in Ukraine will be sold only in pharmacies or drugstores, the press service of the State Service for Drugs reports.
Since December 29 of 2012 legislative provisions that allowed business entities to sale medication at pharmacy booths has been no longer valid.
The request to close the pharmacy kiosks is based on the fact that the quality of service does not ensure an adequate level of providing the pharmaceutical services.
The press service stressed that the termination of the pharmacy booths will have no significant impact on the ability of citizens to use the services of pharmacies.

Cabinet allocated nearly 3.5 billion for unpaid wages

The Finance Ministry fully allocated the budget subsidies to equalize the financial capacity of local budgets, and it spent 3.345 billion UAH for unpaid wages, the press service of the State Treasury Service reported.
According to the State Treasury Service, Kyiv received the largest amount of subsidies – 978.8 million UAH, Chernihiv region – 328.4 million UAH, Ivano-Frankivsk region – 231 million UAH, Donetsk region – 226.8 million UAH and Dnipropetrovsk region – 211 million UAH. Volyn region received the smallest amount – 2.5 million UAH.

Ukraine to have only quality drugs from February

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine postponed the introduction of mandatory requirement for importing drugs to grant the certificates of production compliance with international GMP (good manufacturing practice) standards until February 15.
The corresponding decision was taken at the meeting chaired by deputy Prime Minister Kostyantyn Hryshchenko, the press office of the deputy Prime Minister reported.
The government planned to introduce the mandatory provision of certificates from January 1, 2013.
According to the press service, this decision will give the importers time to obtain the required certificates and the State Service for Drugs time to inspect the medications and to avoid the counterfeit and substandard products.
According to Hryshchenko, the introduction of certification requirements from January 1 could lead to a shortage of vital medicines.

Ukraine facilitates adoption of orphans by foreigners

The Social Policy Ministry of Ukraine extended the application deadline for the adoption of Ukrainian children by foreigners, amending the appropriate procedure and conditions required for citizens.
According to the order of the Social Policy Ministry, since December 3 of 2012, the Ministry has accepted the applicants in the period from the third Monday in January (previously – from the first Monday in February) till March 31, as well as from the second Monday in October till December 10 (previously – till November 30).
The remaining terms were not changed – from the second Monday in April till June 30 and from the second Monday in July till September 30.

Explosion of pyrotechnics destroyed 11-apartment building in Mariupol

Yesterday, on December 30, a series of explosions occurred in a building on Kharlampievska street in Mariupol. A 32-year-old man was killed, and 14 people were left homeless.
The garrison of Mariupol rescuers came to the place of incident. A warehouse of fireworks and two tanks of helium were found in the apartment number 10 of 11-residential apartment building. Fortunately, the rescuers managed to cool the tanks. Otherwise, the force of the explosion would have been even more devastating, deputy head of the state fire and rescue team of the main territorial department of Ukraine in Donetsk region Volodymyr Husynsky told a press conference.
As a result of unplanned fireworks, three apartments were completely destroyed, and seven were damaged partially.
According to the representatives of the city administration, all victims will receive the financial aid. As for the restoration of the destroyed building, the issue has not been yet resolved.

Army to be based on contract principle, Lebedev says

The call to compulsory military service will be suspended in 2013. The army is to be based on contract principle only, defense minister Pavlo Lebedev said, congratulating the military men and the Ukrainian Armed Forces staff, veterans of the Armed Forces and their families on the Christmas and New Year holidays, the Defense Ministry press service informs.
“In the new year we will face new, large-scale tasks. Ukrainian President has outlined the further reform and development of the Armed Forces. Ukrainian army is undergoing fundamental changes. The structure and managing of the Armed Forces will be reconsidered, the system of training will be improved, the call to military service will be suspended. The army is to be based on contract principle only, as it is done today in the leading world countries,” Lebedev said.
The defense minister added that the changes will relate not only to these strategic issues. “Military reform is not limited to changes in the structure of the Armed Forces, its numerical strength and the principle of recruitment. Maximum attention will be focused on the tasks posed by the country’s leadership on equipping the armed forces with new and modernized weapons and military equipment, the intensification of combat training and advanced training of personnel, provision of social guarantees for soldiers and their families, participation in international peacekeeping and security operations,” the minister said. 
“The coming year will be very important and busy. We will face hard work and very responsible tasks, for which we need mobilizing all human and material resources. I am convinced that together we will overcome any difficulties on the way to the goal,” Lebedev summed up.

Another Parliament’s committee forms subcommittees

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Family, Youth, Sports and Tourism created three subcommittees.
As the Parliament’s press service informs, the corresponding decisions were taken at the first meeting of the parliamentary committee.
In particular, MPs created the following subcommittees: 
the subcommittee on youth policy, family and childhood, chaired by MP Mykola Zhuk (the Party of Regions faction);
the subcommittee on physical culture and sports, chaired by MP Serhiy Topalov (the Communist Party faction);
the subcommittee on tourism, health resorts and recreational activities, chaired by MP Ivan Bushko (the Party of Regions faction).

Russian Airliner Overshoots Vnukovo Runway, Catches Fire

A Russian Tupolev Tu-204 medium-haul airliner overshot the runway while landing at Moscow’s Vnukovo airport and caught fire on Saturday, the Russian Interior Ministry said, RIA Novosti reports.
The cause of the incident was not immediately clear.
First reports said there were 12 people on board the plane, including four crewmembers, flying from the Czech Republic.
Initial reports said five people were injured.
The plane almost reached Moscow’s Kievskoye Highway abutting the airport, which was closed off to traffic both ways.
Vnukovo airport has been closed with all incoming planes diverted to Sheremetyevo.
