Main New Year’s party of the country begins on Independence Square at 9 pm

Today, on December 31, the festive event – concert “Night at Maidan” – starts at 9 pm at the Independence Square on the occasion of New Year.
Traditionally, the peal of bells will be followed by fireworks.
The main party of the country will last till 2 am of January 1.
There will be also an online platform where audiences and artists can congratulate all of Ukraine on the occasion of New Year.
The city government will provide the protection of public order, medical support and security measures from December 31, 2012 till January 1, 2013.

Astrologers recommend celebrating 2013 year of the black snake with the family. It will be perfect to celebrate the holiday in a private residence with a pool or a pond in the garden. As many snakes are aquatic. 
People should put on the table a statuette of any snake as a symbol of the coming year. The lighting chain and other bright decorations can symbolize the snake.

Wage arrears in Kyiv fell by three times

Wage arrears in Kyiv fell by three times this year, Kyiv prosecutor Mykola Beskyshky declared, the press service of the Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office reported.
“Wage arrears in Kyiv were reduced by three times thanks to the better effectiveness of response through criminal law measures. Almost 112 million UAH (14 million dollar) were paid to people,” the prosecutor said.
He also noted that in 2012 the prosecuting agencies in Kyiv opened 50 criminal cases on the non-payment of wages, of which 45 have already been sent to the courts. Administrative and disciplinary charges were brought against 130 officials for the violation of the constitutional rights of citizens, Interfax-Ukraine news agency reported.
“At the request of the prosecutor’s office in Kyiv, the charges were brought against 130 officials, including seven employees of the Territorial State Labour Inspectorate,” Beskyshky said.

Yanukovych, Komorowski exchanged New Year greetings

President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych held a telephone conversation with President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski, ForUm learned from the press service of the President.
The leaders exchanged New Year greetings with each other and discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and Poland. 
The parties also discussed the issues on Ukraine’s European integration.

Acting chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine Ihor Sorkin has congratulated Ukrainians on the Happy New Year and Merry Christmas.
According to Sorkin, New Year is also an opportunity to remind the last year and to determine the prospects for development. “2012 was a complex but generally successful year for the domestic banking system. The National Bank of Ukraine has fulfilled its main tasks. I am convinced we will ensure the stable development of the banking system in 2013 for the prosperity of the state, economic strengthening and improvement of the welfare of citizens,” he noted.

Russian plane crash killed four people

Four crew were killed when a Russian airliner crashed into a motorway and broke up into three pieces after overshooting the runway at an international Moscow airport.
The Red Wings Airlines Russian-made Tu-204 jet – empty of passengers and carrying just its eight crew on a return trip from the Czech Republic – caught fire after crashing through the perimeter fence of Vnukovo airport in the west of the city.
According to the Emergencies Ministry of Russia, four people were killed, including commander Shmelev, copilot Astashenkov, flight engineer Fisenko and stewardess Zhigalina, and four more were injured.
According to the preliminary data, the accident was cause by a technical failure of the aircraft, as well as severe weather conditions.

Russian President Vladimir Putin exchanged the New Year’s greetings on the phone with his counterparts Nursaltanom Nazarbayev from Kazakhstan and Viktor Yanukovych from Ukraine, the press service of Kremlin reports.
The press service stressed that the heads of states exchanged warm New Year’s greetings and wishes of good, well-being and prosperity of the peoples.

One Ukrainian killed, two injured in road accident in Belarus

One Ukrainian citizen was killed and two injured in a road accident in Belarus on December 29, the press service of the Interior Ministry of Belarus reports, Interfax-Ukraine news agency reported.
The accident occurred near Nekhachevo in Ivatsevichy district.
A Ukrainian citizen, born in 1979, was driving a Mercedes minibus and crashed into a Neoplan bus that was driven by a Minsk resident, born in 1981.
As a result of the accident, a young man (born in 1989) was killed and two more passengers (born in 1987 and 1990 respectively) were hospitalized. All of the passengers are Ukrainian citizens. The driver of the Neoplan bus received medical aid and did not need hospitalization.
