"Black" archeologists raided a communal grave in Crimea

Treasure hunters raided a communal grave of Crimeans and Jews, killed by Nazi during the WWII.

A representative of the Jewish charity center “Hesed Shimon” in Simferopol told the police that representatives of Jewish organizations discovered fresh earth fills with scattered human remains on the 10th kilometer of “Simferopol-Feodosia” highway.

“Judging from the soil condition, we assumed that digging was held for several months. We called the police and Security Service. In the course of investigation the police discovered a hidden pit, three meters deep and with branchy net of horizontal tunnels of one meter high, at the bottom of which there were numerous human remains,” the statement of Jewish organizations says.

The press office of the Crimean department of the Interior Ministry confirmed that fact of excavation of the communal grave, but refused to comment on whether it was work of “black” archeologists.

“The investigation is underway, and it will establish all circumstances,” head of the press office Olga Kondrashova stated.

Analyst: Yatseniuk united with Batkivshchyna because he wants to be president

Analyst: Yatseniuk united with Batkivshchyna because he wants to be president

The unification of the Front for Change and Batkivshchyna parties is related to Arseniy Yatseniuk’s personal desire to win the presidential election in 2015, Director of the Situations Modeling Agency Vitaliy Bala said at a press conference on Monday, UKRINFORM reported.

“In fact, Front for Change is saving Batkivshchyna, but why does Yatseniuk need that? Yatseniuk wants to be president, and he had to pretend that the united opposition would nominate a single presidential candidate,” Bala said, adding that Yatseniuk put his personal interests above the interests of the party.

According to the political scientist, people who have already been in power are currently joining the opposition.

“It’s necessary to unite not to solve some personal issues. It’s necessary to unite on the basis of specific ideas and proposals for society,” the analyst said, adding that unification against someone cannot be durable.

While characterizing the actions of some opposition leaders, Bala said that, for example, if Svoboda Party leader Oleh Tiahnybok decides to run in a separate single-member constituency, “it will be a blow to the party.”

As for UDAR Party leader Vitali Klitschko, the political scientist said that he is in a two-dimensional imaginary space: “The man who used to always win sees only black or white. It cannot be so in politics. There is a big gap between ‘lose or win,’ there’s a question of compromises, agreements, consultations, and the forecasting of future results.” If Klitschko wants to have real results on party lists, he has to build his party, he added.

While comparing the actions of the government and the united opposition before parliamentary elections, Bala said that in order to ensure success in the next parliamentary elections, the government should do everything openly and transparently.

Ukraine to increase the number of integrated professions

Ukraine to increase the number of integrated professions

There are only 62 integrated professions in Ukraine, while in Germany there are 310, vice PM and minister for social policy Serhiy Tihipko said during the meeting in Cherkassy regional administration.

“When a person is simultaneously a locksmith, wireman and plumber, the demand for such specialists is 4-5 times higher than a demand for a separate locksmith or separate plumber. That’s why we add another 50 professions to the existing 62, and in 2014 we will add another 100. In fact,  we will try to make all working professions integrated, so a worker will be more competitive at the labour market,” Tihipko said.

According to the minister, such initiative is stipulated in the new draft bill “On population occupation.”

Cabinet increased pensions for 13 million Ukrainians

Cabinet increased pensions for 13 million Ukrainians

From May 1, 2012 13 million 300 thousand Ukrainians will get increased pensions. Such initiative is stipulated in the resolution “On social protection of population”, adopted by the Cabinet on April 23, ForUm learned from the Cabinet’s press office.

The resolution has been adopted following the social initiatives of the President of Ukraine and the initiative itself is financed by the state budget, amendments to which have come into force.

According to the government’s decision, pensions are increased by 100 hryvnias minimum.

“In such a way the government carries out the aggiornamento of pensions and increases the level of social protection and social provision of vulnerable categories of the population. At the same time, unfortunately, it is impossible to increase pensions for people, who do not have working experience and did not pay dues to the Pension Fund. This category of the population receives the so-called social pension, and its increase will be carried out along with the increase of minimal pension, which happens routinely,” the Cabinet says.

Tymoshenko agrees to treatment at Kharkiv clinic if given her personal doctor

Tymoshenko agrees to treatment at Kharkiv clinic if given her personal doctor

Former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko will agree to undergo treatment at the Ukrzaliznytsia Central Clinical Hospital 5 in Kharkiv if it is administered by independent physicians.

“Yulia Tymoshenko’s position is clear: strict compliance with the recommendations of the German physicians and treatment by independent doctors, either Ukrainian or foreign. We have no problems with the equipment at the Kharkiv clinic, but for three months now Yulia Tymoshenko has been asking for access to an independent Ukrainian doctor that she trusts – Professor Mykola Polishchuk, but we’re getting denials,” lawyer Serhiy Vlasenko said today on channel TVi, Tymoshenko’s official website reports.

The lawyer stressed that any prisoner, in the absence of the necessary medical specialist at the prison, can request to be treated by a trusted doctor. “By law, the penitentiary service must allow any prisoner, not just Tymoshenko, to be seen by a specialized physician if there isn’t one in the prison. We understand that there is no specialist in the prison, and therefore they should give Polishchuk access,” he added.

CEC: Giving free food is bribery of voters

Giving food to voters free of charge is bribery, Central Election Commission says in its explanatory note, published today, April 23.

CEC reminds about the ban to hold pre-election campaign, accompanied by distribution of goods among voters, organizations or institution free of charge or on special terms (except for goods, which have party logos and cost not more than 3% of minimal wage).

The ban is also applied to free of charge services. CEC stresses that such actions are indirect bribery of voters, and people involved into similar activity violate the law and can be brought to criminal or administrative responsibility.

Court to continue hearings on Lutsenko’s case in three weeks

Judge Hanna Medushevska has refused to close the criminal case against former Interior Minister Yuri Lutsenko, with authorizing illegal surveillance of Valentyn Davydenko, driver of the former first deputy head of the Security Service Volodymyr Satsiuk, at whose summer house then candidate for presidency Viktor Yushchenko had a dinner, after which he felt bad and was diagnosed with dioxin poisoning.

The Judge read out this decision after returning from the deliberation room, the press office of the People’s Self-Defense party reported.

According to Judge Medushevska the court can decide on case closure only after studying all proofs and listening to experts’ opinions and witnesses. The judge considers the request to close the criminal case at this stage premature.

In connection with the engagement in another trial the Judge Medushevska announced a break in the trial against Lutsenko until May 18.

Lubkivski: It is impossible to forge Euro-2012 tickets

Lubkivski: It is impossible to forge Euro-2012 tickets

It is practically impossible to forge tickets for Euro-2012 matches, UEFA Euro-2012 tournament director in Ukraine Markian Lubrivski said during the presentation of ticket’s design, ForUm correspondent reports.

In particular, the official informed that tickets have several layers of defense and UEFA believes it is impossible to forge them. According to operation director of UEFA Events S.A. Martin Kallen, every ticket has ten defense elements, including a hologram, codes and others.

“Volunteers will have 5-6 elements to confirm validity of the ticket,” Kallen pointed out.
Lubkivski also said that the ticket design meets the traditions of the championship, taking into account all national elements of Poland and Ukraine.

According to him, all tickets are personalized, and even though there is no passport control at the entrance, there can be random check of documents. “If a steward has any doubts about legality of the ticket, the owner of such ticket will be denied access,” he said.

Lubkivski also informed that there already were attempts to forge tickets. “It’s not a mass process, but there were some cases,” the official noted.
