President: Every infrastructure object built to EURO 2012 will work for development of Ukraine

Every infrastructure object built in the framework of Ukraine’s preparation for EURO 2012 will work for the development of our country, President Viktor Yanukovych said at a meeting dedicated to Ukraine preparing to bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

Viktor Yanukovych congratulated those present on the opening of a new modern 2,100 passengers per hour capacity terminal at the Lviv Danylo Halytsky International Airport today. The President reminded that one of the UEFA requirements was raising the capacity of Ukrainian airports to 4,500 passengers per hour. “We raised the capacity. Of course, this opens new opportunities for the entire transport infrastructure, tourism, and business,” Viktor Yanukovych said, adding that when all the Ukrainian airports start working at their full capacity, they will be able to serve 7,000 passengers per hour.

President: Ukraine fully meets EURO 2012 preparation schedule

The process of Ukraine’s preparation for EURO 2012 goes on in accordance with the specified schedule, President Viktor Yanukovych told journalists in Lviv, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

He noted that the new terminal opening at the Lviv Danylo Halytsky International Airport took place in the project’s defined timeframe. “It is important that this principle is kept to during the overall preparation for EURO 2012 in Ukraine,” Viktor Yanukovych said.

According to the President, Ukraine still has much to do to properly prepare for EURO 2012: conduct security trainings, provide the conditions for proper service of guests, complete some construction works, etc.

“We will be working until the last night before the championship to recieve our guests as we should. It is our duty,” he said.

PM Azarov hopes for Russian common sense

Ukraine continues looking for altrnative sources of gas supplies, Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said at a meeting with Lithuanian PM Andrius Kubilius, ForUm learned from the Cabinet’s press office.

“But I hope that the common sense of our Russian partners will prevail, and we will get fair gas price,” Azarov added.

Azarov informed that Ukraine continues talks with Central Asian countries, Azerbaijan in particular, on alternative gas supplies, and is holding talks with Turkey on gas tanks’ transit through the Bosphorus Strait. Azarov noted that this is not a one-day work.

“Such projects can last for years, but we are on the right path,” the PM underlined.

No threat to Lutsenko’s life- Health Ministry

Former Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko has no illnesses that pose a threat to his life, the chief doctor of Kyiv City Hospital of Emergency Care, Oleksandr Tkachenko, has said.

“The patient’s condition is satisfactory. There are no illnesses that pose a threat to Lutsenko’s life. Of course, he has an illness that requires control,” reads the statement, UKRINFORM reports.

According to Tkachenko, the former minister’s condition is much better than a year ago. “Comparing the patient’s condition with last year, in particular, with May 2011, his condition is now much better,” he said.

The wife of the former interior minister, Iryna Lutsenko, in turn, said that in prison her husband had been infected with hepatitis during a blood transfusion.

President: Ukraine’s worthy preparation for EURO 2012 will confirm its reliability

President Viktor Yanukovych has held a meeting with UEFA President Michel Platini. “I am very grateful that we did this great work together,” Viktor Yanukovych told Michel Platini, and praised the fact that two years ago, UEFA had believed in the ability of the Ukrainian government to ensure proper preparations for EURO 2012, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

The President expressed certainty that the proper level of preparations for EURO 2012 would confirm to the world Ukraine’s reliability and ability to keep its promises.

In turn, Michel Platini congratulated President Yanukovych on the achievements Ukraine has made in the preparation to EURO 2012. “Everything done was done perfectly. You have practically reached all the goals,” said the UEFA President.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has elected Roman Mahuta the chairman of the Accounts Chamber of Ukraine, the head of the parliament’s accounts commission Mykola Shershun has announced, ForUm correspondent reports.

In particular, the official informed that a total of 243 deputies voted for this decision with 14 voted against it,” he said.

The candidature of Roman Mahuta was nominated by speaker of the parliament Volodymyr Lytyvn.

Italian court releases BYuT member Avakov

A court in Italy has released the head of the Kharkiv regional branch of the Batkivshchyna Party Arsen Avakov from custody, head of the BYT-Batkivshchyna faction in parliament Andriy Kozhemyakin announced from the parliament’s rostrum on Thursday.

Prosecutor’s General Office confirms the information on Avakov’s release from custody, PGO spokesman Yuri Boichenko has declared.

“We’ve learned by phone that the court has released Avakov. Nevertheless, the extradition procedure continues,” the official added.

Ukraine will receive EURO 2012 guests at worthy level, President Viktor Yanukovych said at today’s opening of a new terminal at the Lviv Danylo Halytsky International Airport, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

The President stressed that Ukraine has made every effort to successfully prepare for the sporting event. “Making promises and keeping them has been and remains the matter of principle for Ukraine,” said Viktor Yanukovych.

“We have great hope that this football festival will be held at the proper level, and the Ukrainian football team will show good football,” said Viktor Yanukovych.

For his part, the UEFA President pointed out Ukraine’s significant achievements in building a modern infrastructure for EURO 2012. He thanked the President of Ukraine and local authorities for giving hundreds of thousands of fans the opportunity to come to Ukraine and enjoy the festival of football.
