The defense team of former Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko does not know what medical procedures were conducted on the ex-premier and doesn’t trust the results of the examination, Tymoshenko’s lawyer Serhiy Vlasenko told a briefing outside Kyiv detention facility on Wednesday.

“As far as we know from the official reports of the Health Ministry, in the early hours of this morning and without preliminary notice for lawyers or relatives Yulia Volodymyrivna was taken to an unknown hospital… not the hospital she wanted… where they carried out some medical tests we know nothing about,” Vlasenko said.

He stressed that the defense team cannot trust the results of this tests and the vague diagnosis it produced.

“We do not know what you did with her, we do not know the results,” Vlasenko pointed out.
According to him, in order to find the cause of the bruising on the ex-premier’s body, they had to take blood tests. “To my knowledge, the blood test hasn’t been taken today,” he added.

MP: New law on elections will force politicians to give up their ambitions

MP: New law on elections will force politicians to give up their ambitions

Party of Regions parliamentary faction member, President’s representative in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Yuriy Miroshnychenko is convinced that raising the electoral threshold will encourage political forces to unite, ForUm learned from the Party of Regions press office.

Last week the Verkhovna Rada adopted the Law on parliamentary elections in Ukraine. According to Yuriy Miroshnychenko, Viktor Yanukovych is to sign this document soon.

“This Law is the result of not just a compromise, but consensus of political forces. All opposition’s requirements, concerning democratization of the electoral process, preventing fraud or distortion of citizens will, have been worked out taking into account the conclusions of the Venice Commission and other international expert organizations. Thus, the current quality of the Law will allow conducting fair, democratic and transparent elections in Ukraine. And this is exactly what the President called upon us at the beginning,” the politician says.

Under the new Law the passing barrier into the parliament has been increased from 3 to 5%.

“The logic of this step is to encourage political parties to unite, to strengthen, to create a chain from nationwide level to the level of local communities. Thus, the extra-parliamentary political forces get a clear perspective – there is the whole year ahead. They will either work to strengthen their influence and to gain more support of people, or consolidate. So, the political structure, which is induced by increase of electoral threshold, will contribute to more politically-structured society and to strengthening the parties, which are in power,” Yuriy Miroshnychenko stressed.

According to him, bright leaders who now represent young and new political forces, understand it well and carry on the dialogue in order to, as minimum, coordinate their efforts and, as maximum, to work together.

“Uniting should be based on joint programs, shared values and shared vision of the country’s perspective. There is a catalyst for such processes – increase of the electoral threshold. Concerning ambitions of the leaders themselves … So, actually, the willingness to give up these ambitions will determine their political future,” the parliamentarian summed up.
