Interior Minister wants politicians to pay for protest action protection

Interior Minister of Ukraine Anatoly Mohyliov stands for that politicians pay the law enforcement bodies for secure public order during protest actions. He stated this at a briefing in response to the question whether it is expedient to use large number of police force for protection of small protest actions, ForUm’s correspondent reported.

In particular, Mohyliov informed that to provide order during protest action the Interior Minister calculates the necessary number of policemen following a request of a political force.

“For example, a political force says a protest action will number 50 thousand people. I am obliged to deliver a corresponding number of law enforcement forces. I proposed long time ago to make politicians pay the state for protection of protesters,” Mohyliov said.

Tymoshenko expects guilty verdict, but will not ask for pardon

Tymoshenko expects guilty verdict, but will not ask for pardon

Former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has ruled out the possibility of asking the president of Ukraine for a pardon if she is convicted.

“I want to say that under no circumstances will I ask for a pardon. I won’t do this because for me this will mean recognition of the dictatorship, recognition of the injustice, arrogance and cynicism of the authoritarian system of government,” Yulia Tymoshenko said today in court.

The ex-premier said that the Yanukovych government is considering the option of pardoning her as a way to end the case. However, she pointed out that according to the law, the person that was sentenced must ask for a pardon. “He shouldn’t even consider such plans,” she said.

“I have no doubt that a guilty verdict will be announced next week,” she added.

“Believe me: there is already a verdict, and if someone in this courtroom or in society thinks there will be an acquittal, I don’t want you to have hope. A guilty verdict has been written and it will be announced,” Yulia Tymoshenko said.
.
The ex-premier emphasized that during the trial was one-sided in favor of the prosecution. “This wasn’t a trial in the classical understanding of the principles of justice. This was a very specific trial, this was a trial without a defense. First of all, we were denied the right to a full defense and did everything in emergency mode. Secondly, this was a trial without witnesses suggested by the defense. This was a trial without expert opinions with the participation of the defense. This was a trial without experts that could have provided at least some explanations to the court,” she said.

Former Prime Minister Tymoshenko has also asked the court to give her time until Monday, October 3, to prepare her final statement in court.
