Azarov: Gazprom didn’t offer Ukraine cooperation based on Belarusian scenario

JSC Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller at a meeting with Ukraine’s Minister of Energy and Coal Industry in Moscow did not propose Ukraine to cooperate in energy sector based on the Belarusian scenario, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov told reporters Friday, according to UKRINFORM.

“Miller did not submit any proposals and he could not submit, because this issue is under discussion and study. When the study ends, we will examine this issue, and then talk about it,” Azarov emphasized.

He added that the Russian side did not deliver any proposals and is waiting an initiative from Ukraine.

“The Russian side is waiting for proposals from us. They formulated what they want. We are studying and thinking about what we can offer to the Russian side to negotiate,” the prime minister said.

Last week UKRINFORM reported that Alexei Miller during the Moscow meeting August 15 with Yuriy Boiko said the development of cooperation between Ukraine and Russia in gas sector could be built on the same model as with Belarus.

As known, Gazprom owns a 50% stake in the Belarusian gas transportation company Beltransgaz. Currently, negotiations are underway to purchase another 50%.

Ukraine agrees with IMF expenditure side of 2012 state budget

Ukraine has agreed the revenue side of its draft state budget for 2012 with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), whereas proposals for the expenditure side are currently being discussed, First Deputy Head of Ukraine’s Presidential Administration Iryna Akimova said at a briefing in Kyiv on Friday, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

She noted that Ukraine was agreeing its draft budget figures with the IMF.

“We must necessarily resolve all of the issues, not only with the forecast for macroeconomic figures, but also with the forecast for expenditures and revenues,” Akimova said.

She said that the issue of the revenue side of the state budget for next year had already been agreed with the IMF.

“We are actively working to agree our proposals related to the expenditure side [of the draft state budget],” Akimova said.

She also expressed hope that the draft state budget for 2012 would be submitted to Ukraine’s parliament on time.

“It’s a very positive signal that this [budget process] has begun now, rather than at the end of 2011. This means that the government is seriously committed to preparing this most important document. I hope that this document will be tabled in parliament by September 15, as planned earlier,” she said.

Tymoshenko’s health has worsened. Trial adjourned until Monday

Judge Rodion Kireyev of the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv has adjourned the trial of Yulia Tymoshenko until August 22 due to the deterioration of Yulia Tymoshenko’s health.

“The court took a break until 9:30 on Monday. This break is necessary in order for Yulia Tymoshenko to undergo a medical examination. Yulia Tymoshenko insisted on her personal lawyer, but they didn’t give permission for him to examine her. We filed the request yesterday to allow her doctor to see her. As of today, there as been no response from the court,” Yulia Tymoshenko’s defense lawyer Yuriy Sukhov said after today’s court session.

“If an examination is conducted, the results will be used to decide whether she can continue to participate in the trial. Yulia Tymoshenko insists that her health not become a subject of speculation in connection with the trial,” he added.

The lawyer said that the defense demands that Yulia Tymoshenko’s family doctor take her blood for run tests to determine the reason for her worsening health. “Yulia Tymoshenko’s family doctor just needs to take her blood for analysis, since he’s been monitoring her health for the past 10 years, to determine what’s happening because there are some processes that are unknown,” he said.

When asked by journalists about the ex-premier’s symptoms, Yuriy Sukhov said that she is in overall poor condition. “She can’t say exactly what’s going on with her body. She’s never had this before. She just feels ill – that’s all,” he said.

Yulia Tymoshenko’s personal doctor came to the Pechersk District Court today at the request of members of parliament, but the judge forbid him to see the defendant during and after the court session, Tymoshenko’s official website reported.

Lutsenko: Yushchenko spat on those who made him president

Lutsenko: Yushchenko spat on those who made him president

Former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko is convinced the former President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko has reached a deal with the ruling government to cover up his role in the 2009 gas crisis.

“The Prosecutor General’s Office under Yanukovych ‘protection’ gave their ally Yushchenko freedom and the opportunity to mask his role in the 2009 gas catastrophe. While testifying in court yesterday, Yushchenko once against spat on those who made him president,” Yuriy Lutsenko said Thursday during his trial, according to the official website of Yulia Tymoshenko.

The ex-minister said that earlier this year he wrote a letter to Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka stating that ex-President Viktor Yushchenko had committed a crime, but has yet to receive a response. “According to the Constitution, the president doesn’t have the right to recall the head of a independent business entity from international negotiations. But Yushchenko did this,” sad Yuriy Lutsenko.

“And now Yushchenko is covering up and saying that he never withdrew anyone from the talks, because this was 100 percent abuse of power on his part,” said the ex-minister.

He said that during the 2009 gas crisis, Yulia Tymoshenko “was forced to rescue the situation when Yushchenko put Ukraine on the brink of collapse.” “Tymoshenko went to the Kremlin to negotiate gas contracts, while Yushchenko went skiing, leaving the country to Tymoshenko at a time when the Kremlin was most furious over the breakdown of gas talks,” said the ex-minister, adding that Premier Yulia Tymoshenko acted within her authority in the situation and didn’t break any laws.

In his testimony, Oleh Dubyna, the former head of Naftohaz, said that former President Viktor Yushchenko had instructed him to walk out of the negotiation in Moscow, even though the price that had been agreed was reasonable.

Yesterday, however, when Viktor Yushchenko finally came to court after ignoring numerous summonses, he said that he never recalled the Naftohaz delegation from the negotiations in Russia.
