MP says preparations underway to disperse demonstrations in Kyiv

The Ukrainian Interior Ministry is training law enforcement officers and special forces troops to quell and disperse mass demonstrations in Kyiv, reads a statement posted on the Web site of the Front for Change Party.

In this regard, party leader Arseniy Yatseniuk appealed to the interior minister and the prosecutor general.

“In an MP appeal to the interior minister, Yatseniuk says that he obtained information that the Interior Ministry was conducting in some regions, in particular, Zhytomyr region, work on the rapid training of law enforcers and special police units to break up demonstrations, as well as on the redeployment of these units to Kyiv,” reads the statement.

Yatseniuk demanded that the minister formally respond whether the ministry passed a respective order to redeploy these units to the Ukrainian capital.

As reported, Ukraine’s former premier Yulia Tymoshenko was arrested last Friday in Pechersky District Court during the hearing of the case against her and taken to the Lukyanivka detention facility. Also on Friday, the ex-premier’s supporters and lawmakers decided to launch a protest against her arrest for an indefinite period of time.

UN refused to create the global reserve of milling grains in Ukraine

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) refused to the proposal of the Ukrainian authorities to place the world reserve of milling grains at the territory of Ukraine, due to doubts about the practicability of establishing the world reserve of milling grains in Ukraine, announced D.Hallam, Director of the Trade and Market Division, FAO.

According to him, it is hard to use the global reserve stocks to stabilize prices. It is potentially very expensive and carries a risk of speculative attacks, if supplies are not sufficient. The mechanism of the world reserve stocks of the past is examined as having a limited impact on reducing price volatility, D.Hallam said, according to http://www.agrimarket.info.

But he expressed support for Ukraine’s interest in increasing grain supplies on the world market, and reducing the price volatility.

However, in his opinion, the UN sees the solution of problems of food shortages in the need to establish national and regional small-scale strategic reserves of grains.

As a reminder, on August 3, 2011, Nikholai Prysiazhnyuk, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, said that Ukraine proposed to the United Nations to host the world reserve of milling grains at the territory of the country.

Trial resumes. Flowers brought for Yulia Tymoshenko

The trial of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has resumed at the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv.

Before the start of the proceedings, the ex-premier traditionally greeted everyone present with the words “Glory to Ukraine!”

Yulia Tymoshenko’s husband, Oleksandr, arrived at the Pechersk Court with a bouquet of white roses. “These flowers for my wife are from her supporters,” he said, adding that the bouquet will stay next to Yulia Tymoshenko in the courtroom.

Representatives of the embassies of the US, Lithuania, Great Britain and other countries are in the courtroom monitoring the trial.

The prison van brought Yulia Tymoshenko to the court at 7:45 am. She was greeted by shouts of “Yulia! Yulia!” from hundreds of supporters who are demanding her release.

Buses with officers of the special unit Berkut are parked on both sides of Khreshchatyk and Bohdan Khmelnytsky streets. There are significantly more police than during the last session of court on Monday.

It was much more difficult for journalists to gain entry to the court today. Representatives of court police didn’t allow representatives of the media into the courtroom, not explaining the reason for such behavior.

Cell where Yulia Tymoshenko being held has been bugged, says source

The Batkivshchyna press service has learned that during renovations a month before the arrest of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, listening devices were installed in cell #242 at Lukyanivka prison where Tymoshenko is being held.

The person, who wishes to remain anonymous, told the party’s press service that there may be a mini video camera in the cell, and video taken with it will soon appear on the internet.

According to the source, nearly everyone at the Lukyanivka prison sympathizes with Yulia Tymoshenko. However, it can’t be ruled out that the two women sharing cell #242 with her are informants for the prison authorities.
