Volunteers began their study

Volunteers began their study

On 1 August 2011 the first group of 600 volunteers of the Kyiv host city began their training program. All of them registered at the web-site of the host city, filled in questionnaires and then passed the interview. The first stage of training is language training, for which, according to the training program, 100 hours are provided. In the coming days at the Dynamo stadium the future helpers of the Championship will have their first practical task. The Information Centre Ukraine 2012 learned this at the EURO-2012 directorate of the Kyiv City State Administration.

At the KCSA they note that by the end of the year the first stream of helpers of the Championship will be schooled – they will receive certificates that they have been trained and are ready to work as volunteers during EURO-2012 and other mass events of the capital.

The recruitment of Kyiv volunteers continues. As of today, there are about 6,000 candidates registered.

Opposition will protest against the cancellation of benefits for the poor

Batkivshchyna Party leader and former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko says deputies of opposition factions in parliament have appealed to the Constitutional Court to rule unconstitutional the cancellation of benefits for the poor.

“We filed a special complaint with the Constitutional Court regarding the unlawful cancellation of all benefits – this is approximately 40 billion hryvnias that provided support to people in our country,” Yulia Tymoshenko told journalists before the start of today’s court hearing.

She also said that deputies of opposition factions are trying to block the transfer of the so-called pension reform law to the president for signing. “The pension law that completely destroys the rights of pensioners won’t leave parliament until the deputies return for the session. But after this there will have to be a revote for the destructive so-called pension reform,” she said.

Government raises minimum prices for alcohol by 25-50%

The government took a decision to raise minimum wholesale and retail prices for alcoholic beverages produced in Ukraine by 25-50%, First Deputy Economic Development and Trade Minister Vadym Kopylov told journalists by results of the Cabinet’s meeting on Wednesday.

“The government rose prices for alcohol, a price for vodka was 17.96 UAH, it will be 26.10 UAH, cognac three stars was 26.32 UAH, it will be 33.08 UAH, wine was 12 UAH – will be 18 UAH. Those are minimum prices,” he said.

Earlier, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said that “this (raising of minimum prices) will allow decreasing the shadow market and protecting people from forged and often dangerous for the health alcoholic products.”

The resolution will come into force since the day of its publication.

As UKRINFORM reported, according to Ukrhorilka Association, still in late April, producers stood for raising the minimum retail price for vodka from 17.96 UAH to 26.10 UAH/0.5 liter bottle.

The need for the revision of the minimum price level was dictated by a growth of prices for main components that form the production prime cost of alcoholic beverages.

The minimum prices for alcohol were introduced in late October 2008, as requested by alcohol producing companies.
