Tymoshenko: Court is very good at protecting RosUkrEnergo

Tymoshenko: Court is very good at protecting RosUkrEnergo

During the interrogation of former Defense Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov, the court is again trying to avoid any references to RosUkrEnergo (RUE).

“The court comes to the rescue well when it’s necessary to protect RosUkrEnergo,” former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said today after the court eight times objected to the defense’s questions to former Defense Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov as to why in 2006 he allowed RosUkrEnergo to enter the Ukrainian market as an intermediary in relations between Naftohaz and Russia’s Gazprom.

Yulia Tymoshenko recalled that it was during the premiership of Yuriy Yekhanurov’s that a contract was signed on 4 January 2006 by Naftohaz, Gazprom and RosUkrEnergo on regulating gas relations, which opened the door for RUE to become involved in gas relations between Ukraine and Russia.

“Why didn’t you hold professional talks in 2005 directly with the prime minister of Russia to negotiate a good price for gas for Ukraine and allowed the corrupt structure RosUkrEnergo, which caused the gas crisis in 2009, to enter the Ukrainian market?” the ex-premier repeatedly asked Yuriy Yekhanurov in different ways.

Judge Rodion Kireyev warned Yulia Tymoshenko that she is allegedly asking questions that don’t relate to the case and insisted that she formulate them differently or withdraw them.

This isn’t the first time the presiding judge in the trial of Yulia Tymoshenko is demonstrating that even the slightest reference to RosUkrEnergo’s involvement in the change in conditions of supply and transport of natural gas is not welcomed by those who ordered this trial, Tymoshenko’s official website reported.

For example, several days ago when former deputy head of the department for relations with Russia at Naftohaz Andriy Ivanov was testifying and said the words “RosUkrEnergo” and “advantageous”, Judge Kireyev and the prosecutors accused Yulia Tymoshenko of allegedly offering the witness prepared answers rather than questions.

Medvedev did not come to Crimea because of Ukraine's refusal to unite Gazprom and Naftogas

Medvedev did not come to Crimea because of Ukraine’s refusal to unite Gazprom and Naftogas

President of Russia Dmitriy Medvedev decided not to come to Crimea because of Ukriane’s refusal to sign an agreement on merge of Gazprom and Naftogaz, a source in the Kremlin informed.

“As we recognized it unprofitable for us, we were told there would be no visit. Though, taking into account current situation regarding Russian-Ukrainian relations, we are interested in any contact of presidents, regardless with signing documents or not,” the source told “Komersant”.

The Kremlin confirmed this version, saying that the Russian party counted first of all on discussion and signing of certain agreements.

“When we got to know this wouldn’t happen, Dmitriy Medvedev decided not to go to Crimea, but showed that Moscow is always open for negotiations,” Kremlin official explained.

Russian president Medvedev was supposed to come to Crimea for the celebration of the Day of Russian Black Sea Fleet on July 31.

Ministry of Agriculture: WTO conditions hamper export of domestic meat

Ministry of Agriculture: WTO conditions hamper export of domestic meat

By signing the agreement with the WTO, Ukraine has committed itself not to promote export of agricultural products through compensations, which now places it to the worse market conditions than Europe and the USA, Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Prysiazhniuk said during an online conference, according to UKRINFORM.

“When we signed a protocol to the WTO agreement, we have made commitments not to stimulate exports of our agricultural products through compensations. European countries, America and other countries have such opportunities. They motivate agricultural export through subsidies per 1 kg of exports, including meat. And believe me, it’s a lot of money, about 100-130 euros/ton of meat,” the minister stressed.

According to him, unlike in other countries Ukraine has low taxes on meat group, less than 10%. Import meat to some extent is cheaper. But this year, imports of meat decreased almost twice after 500 tons previously.

However, it is impossible to change the situation in favor of Ukrainian producers, the official added. “We have repeatedly asked the WTO headquarters to revise these conditions, but the headquarters refused us,” he explained.

However, the ministry is now developing agreements that provide for the complete elimination of export subsidies around the world. A meeting dedicated to these issues is scheduled for 2012. “If this agreement is approved, then we will be more or less in market conditions,” Prysiazhniuk underscored

Azarov: Government to raise salaries to doctors, medical staff

The Government is developing a mechanism for increasing salaries to doctors and medical personnel, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said during a visit to Sevastopol city hospital.

“Doctors’ salaries will be increased. Doctors, for example, complain that they are behind the teachers, who have been provided a number of allowances. Now we will think about how to eliminate this imbalance,” the Head of Government said.

Mykola Azarov reminded that the Government had changed the date of wage increases in the budgetary sector from October 1 of the current year to September 1. “We will try by the end of the year to take decisions allowing to raise the level of wages,” stressed the Prime Minister.
