Indictment on Tymoshenko case read out in absence of defendant and her lawyers

Indictment on Tymoshenko case read out in absence of defendant and her lawyers

The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv, which is considering a criminal case against former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, has started to read out the indictment. Tymoshenko is accused of abuse of office during the signing of gas supply contracts with Russia in 2009.

The court decided to expel Tymoshenko from the courtroom for one sitting. The presiding judge, Rodion Kireyev, motivated the decision by “the defendant’s unwillingness to fulfill the requirements of the Criminal Procedure Code and stand while making her statements, as well as her intolerant statements with respect to the court,” UKRINFORM reports.

The indictment is being read out in the absence of Tymoshenko’s lawyers, because she did not manage to announce a petition to involve her lawyers in the judicial process.

“The judge acted in an unprecedented way, starting the consideration of the case without my participation and without the participation of my lawyers,” Tymoshenko told journalists after she left the courtroom at the request of the presiding judge.

The court also asked media representatives who carried out the photo- and video-recording of the Tymoshenko trial to temporarily leave the courtroom.

Primary real estate selling in Kyiv 40% up in a year

The pace of sales in the residential real estate market of Kyiv has increased by more than 10% for secondary facilities and 40% for primary.

About 5 apartments a month are sold in new residential complexes of the capital city on the average. According to experts, the increase in the rate of sales is primarily due to the activation of pent-up demand, gradual recovery of the investment potential of residential property. The bulk of transactions are carried at buyers’ own expense, the UTG (Ukrainian Trade Guild) said, UKRINFORM reported.

The share of mortgage lending remains relatively low, maximum 7%. At the same time, the installment plan is an effective tool for enhancing sales in 2010-2011, to which about 20% of primary residence buyers resort.
