Kaskiv:Ukraine is interested in establishing effective energy and investment cooperation with Brunei

Ukraine is interested in establishing effective energy and investment cooperation with Brunei, Chairman of the State Agency for Investment and National Projects Management Vladyslav Kaskiv has told Ukrainian journalists in Brunei, presidential press office reported.

“As to the energy partnership, there is a huge potential here, and using these instruments Ukraine can achieve great results,” he said.

Vladyslav Kaskiv reminded that Brunei has great influence in the Asia-Pacific region as an exporter of energy resources.

“It is a fundamentally new process of formation and concentration of geopolitical potential opportunities, therefore the Ukrainian delegation’s presence here is very special. If you have global partners, you see a lot more opportunities,” he said.

Speaking about the prospects of investment cooperation with Brunei, Vladyslav Kaskiv reminded that this country has the seventeenth largest sovereign fund in the world amounting to $30 billion.

“This is a good opportunity for investment … Bruneian investors are conducting a very aggressive investment policy, including in Europe. This is an additional opportunity for Ukraine,” he said.

Ukraine needs pension reform to get IMF money - Tihipko

Ukraine needs pension reform to get IMF money – Tihipko

Ukraine can not get next tranche of IMF loan without implementing pension reform, Deputy Prime Minister Serhiy Tihipko said while speaking at the Ukrainian summit: “Can real reforms be implemented in life?”.

Ukraine can not refuse to cooperate with the IMF since it has no resources to ensure economic recovery after the crisis, he said.

“We have no right to change the situation and refuse from cooperation with the IMF, because we have no EU funds, which can  support the EU member-states. To be left on one’s own  means to cut real wages and real pensions, as it is already done in other countries,” Tihipko said.

To get the next tranche of the IMF loan Ukraine must adopt a law on the implementation of pension reform by the end of March to be eligible for consideration by the IMF board of directors of the allocation of the next tranche in mid-April.

IAEA environmental management standards introduced at Rivne nuclear plant

IAEA environmental management standards introduced at Rivne nuclear plant

IAEA environmental management standards introduced at Rivne nuclear plant

Contents of major radionuclides (cesium and cobalt) in the water that is thrown into the river Styr after use at the Rivne nuclear power plant range between 0.278-0.018 percent of the standards established by the regulations of radiation safety in Ukraine (NRSU-97). These figures, confirming safe operation, have been obtained by specialists of the automated radiation control system, which is involved in the effort to protect the environment.

As UKRINFORM reported, through the creation of this structure, which has fixed and mobile positions in the thirty-kilometer surveillance zone, environment monitoring by all the IAEA-defined parameters is conducted there.

Specialists using modern computerized equipment are measuring doses of aerosol emissions, controlling aquifers (through artesian wells), exploring plant production and milk, etc.

Earth samples have also been taken to show that in some places there is a slight increase in Cesium-137, but it is of Chernobyl origin, which is indicated by its man-made nature.

The automated radiation control system covers an area of three thousand square kilometers with a population of 130,000 in 90 settlements of Rivne and Volyn regions.

With the commissioning of the station, it became possible, inter alia, to ‘weigh’ the volumes of long-lived isotope tritium. Until recently, such a laboratory procedure was performed only at nuclear power plants of Canada, although the system of fixing this element is established at all nuclear power plants around the world. It is important for safe operation, because, as experts say, the value of tritium presence is one of the most fundamental in assessing the interaction of the nuclear power plant with the environment. Introduction of the element catching methods came as a response to the IAEA recommendations on the evaluation and registration of actual emissions, which are normalized by the Ministry of Health.

Another important component is a weather complex, which serves for the remote sensing of the atmosphere at an altitude of three kilometers, and determines the speed, direction of horizontal and vertical wind, atmospheric stability category, and air temperature.

The concept of effective environmental management implemented at Rivne was approved after an audit by an independent expert organization, TUV NORD (Germany), which issued a relevant certificate.
