Ukraine celebrating Armed Forces Day

Ukraine celebrating Armed Forces Day

President Viktor Yanukovych of Ukraine has congratulated servicemen on the 19th anniversary of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In his message the President, in particular, noted that “over the years of independence, the Ukrainian army has established itself as a pillar of our statehood, and guarantor of national security.” “I give tribute to the professionalism and dedication of people in uniform,” Viktor Yanukovych said, UKRINFORM reported.

According to him, the modern challenges and threats in the global security system require a new state policy in restructuring of the Armed Forces. Ukraine is ready to create a mobile, professional army equipped with modern weapons and tools.

An important step towards restructuring the army of a new kind, according to the President, is to achieve a European level of social standards for military personnel, their families and military retirees. “Modern technology can be entrusted only to highly educated, high-quality trained professionals. It is therefore important to improve the quality of military education and the professional level of officers. The effectiveness of command and control, radical changes in the resource and logistical support – this is our task for the near future,” Viktor Yanukovych said.

The Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was established by a resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in 1993. It is celebrated annually on December 6, the day of adoption in 1991 of the Law on the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine incorporate the Land Force, Air Force and Navy. Ukrainian military personnel have taken and are taking part in international military operations, including under the UN auspices.

Tymoshenko: We will continue to fight for a new tax code

Tymoshenko: We will continue to fight for a new tax code

Yulia Tymoshenko has said the new version of the tax code, which takes into account the president’s proposals, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada does not significantly improve conditions for small and medium-sized business.

“The tax code was passed yesterday and I can say that it’s not much better because its philosophy remains the same: clans get benefits while the people have their belts tightened so much they can’t breath,” Yulia Tymoshenko told journalists during a meeting of the BYuT-Batkivshchyna faction, according to Tymoshenko’s official website.

The former prime minister said this type of tax code should not enter into force. “This document must be cancelled sooner or later. A new tax code must be written together with entrepreneurs that will force large corporations, banks and shadow clans to pay the hundreds of billions of hryvnias in taxes that they are not contributing to the state budget,” she said.

In her opinion, entrepreneurs should continue to fight for their economic freedoms. “Our fight continues. We have a package of alternative bills that are currently in parliament whose provisions would make it impossible for shadow clans to use offshore zones in Cyprus, where they’re hiding money equivalent to one or two state budgets. We must strive for these laws, which will force everyone to pay taxes honestly, not just small and medium-sized business, to be adopted,” she added.

UEFA softens conditions for EURO 2012 host cities

UEFA softens conditions for EURO 2012 host cities

UEFA has softened conditions of the previous agreement regarding marketing recommendations to the Ukrainian cities that will host matches of the 2012 European Football Championship.

This decision was made public at a meeting on the signing of UEFA marketing recommendations in Kyiv, UKRINFORM reported.

In particular, the new version of the agreements provides for the allocation of funds from UEFA for advertising the tournament and the preparation of fan zones, as well as benefits on tickets to the matches for host cities.

UEFA Chief Operating Officer Martin Kallen said that UEFA is the sole and exclusive owner of rights to the sale of tickets for matches of the UEFA European Football Championship 2012. According to Kallen, by centralizing the process of selling all kinds of tickets, UEFA will provide the lowest prices on the market.

It is important that fans and companies would know that tickets and corporate hospitality packages can only be purchased directly through the League, and no other organization has any tickets at its disposal, he said.

Earlier it was reported that tickets for the matches of EURO 2012 will be sold through the UEFA site since the spring of 2011.
