Tymoshenko accuses Yanukovych of raiding her party

At a party congress Batkivshchyna approved changes to the party charter. “This was a technical congress during which we following all the proper procedures and amended the party charter. We made the charter stronger in order to have a weapon against government raids of our offices,” Yulia Tymoshenko said on Channel 5.

As during the presidential elections, today many political opponents are using techniques to weaken her party, she said, adding that the Presidential Administration has issued instructions for Batkivshchyna offices in the regions to be raided.

“Yanukovych instructed the head of his Administration, Mr. Lyovochkin, to create fake party branches of Batkivshchyna in the regions and enlist fake party members and hand-picked leaders. The police are now giving out stamps and doctored party certificates to these fake leaders. This is happening in the Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Kyiv and Luhansk oblasts, and all on orders from Yanukovych. They want the president’s phantoms to run under our party’s name,” said Yulia Tymoshenko.

Government of Ukraine is irrevocably set to reforms

Today the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov has met with the Deputy State Secretary of US William J. Burns. During the meeting the Head of the Government noted the intensification of political dialogue between Ukraine and the United States upon their request and described the political and socio-economic situation in Ukraine.

According to the Prime Minister convictions, the situation is stabilized in all areas, primarily due to political stabilization and coordinated work of all the power branches. He noted the adoption of important laws that promote economic recovery and restore order in the State. This is the law on public procurement, which was to prevent the corruption, the law on gas market, the law on single state body regulating tariffs for housing services, the Budget Code, which defines the financial capacity to strengthen financial abilities of local communities and so on.

In addition Mykola Azarov stressed that the Government had developed a revolutionary Tax Code, on conditions of implementation of which Ukraine would have the most attractive investment climate in Europe, integration into which is the main priority for our State. “The Government committed to implement the reforms program proposed to the public by the President of Ukraine,” the Prime Minister said.

Azarov denies allegations about the Tax Code

At a Cabinet session the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov refuted a number of insinuations of opposition on reforms and Tax Code, Cabinet’s press office reported.

Mykola Azarov reassured the citizens of Ukraine, that the new property tax does not apply to 90% of Ukrainian, because area to 100 square meters in urban areas and 200 square meters in the village are not subject to this tax, even if in this premises only one person lives. The Head of Government also noted that housing is not taxed at the rate of 40 square meters per person: that means, if the family has two people – a norm of non taxation is 100 and 200 square meters, if three – 120 square meters, if the four – 160, etc.

Moreover, Mykola Azarov noted that the tax on income on deposits involves those more than 200 thousand UAH. “This will touch those who have deposits millions of hryvnia. It is clear that 200 thousands plus a conditional 1 hryvnia are easily divided into two deposits in order to avoid taxation. We do not object – please do that. However, when it comes to 20 million, 30 million, 100 million – it is difficult to divide, it will be taxed. That means, we tax the rich,” the Head of the Government stressed.

Azarov noted that the new tax system would operate on the principle: reducing the total load and at the same time strengthening the responsibility of wealthy citizens. “Greater payment is laid on the rich, those who can safely share with the community.”

“I am convinced that the first year of the tax reform, the taxpayers will appreciate the ease and simplicity of the tax system,” the Prime Minister said.
