Government to strengthen control over dringking water

The First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Andriy Klyuev declares the need to prevent unfavourable epidemiological situation due to weather conditions.

“In order to prevent unfavourable epidemiological situation I ask to strengthen the control over the quality of drinking water and foodstuffs in sales,” Klyuyev said. The First Vice Prime Minister also added that it is necessary to ensure the adequate protection of sources and centralized water supply facilities.

Furthermore, according to Klyuev, it is necessary to take all possible measures to prevent ingress of environmental agents of infectious diseases from the objects that constitute such a potential threat.

Ukraine to fulfill UNESCO recommendations to prevent Sofia Kyivska and Lavra entering list of sites in danger

Ukraine is to fulfill the recommendations of the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) so as to prevent the national reserves of Sofia Kyivska and Kyiv Pechersk Lavra being put on the List of World Heritage Sites in Danger, First Deputy Head of the State Service for Cultural Heritage Yakiv Dikhtiar has said.

“There are several clauses in a resolution [of the 34th session UNESCO committee] that the international community has laid down. And the country is to fulfill these clauses, and by February 1 to submit information on the state of Sofia and Lavra,” Dikhtiar said, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

Dikhtiar said that according to the recommendations, Ukraine is to bring its normative and legal basis in line with international standards, limit constructions that could threaten the visual perception of Sofia Kyivska and Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, as well as alter documentation on the area around Sophia Kyivska.

As reported, head of the information policy department at the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine Oleh Voloshyn reported that Ukraine achieved confirmation of the status of a national reserves of Sofia Kyivska and Kyiv Pechersk Lavra as sites of global cultural heritage.

UNESCO considered putting the national reserves of Sofia Kyivska and Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, which are on the global cultural heritage list, onto the List of World Heritage Sites in Danger. The organization planned to do this due to the constructions that are being built on the territory of protected area, and the irresponsibility of Kyiv officials.

The 34th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee was held in Brasilia (Brazil) July through August 3, 2010.

Reconstruction of NSC Olympic in Kyiv may take 4.3 billion UAH

The cost of reconstruction of the National Sports Complex “Olympic” in Kyiv may grow up to 4-4.3 billion UAH (1 USD – 7.9 UAH), general director of the complex, Jitess Arquissandash told a briefing Thursday, UKRINFORM reported.

According to him, at the completion of one stage of reconstruction of the NSC, the cost of the completed phase is recounted. This is the reason why they constantly update their estimates of construction, he said adding, at present they do not know an exact cost and may only roughly estimate it.

We have lost 2 years; we are constrained in time; in 6 months we did what had to be done in 3 years; and less than a year is left until putting the stadium into service, he complained.

Portuguese Jitess Arquissandash was appointed director general of NSC Olympic in April 2010. Previously, he worked on the construction of Donbass-Arena in Donetsk and the football arena in Lisbon, Estadio da Luz.

In early August, the Cabinet increased the cost of reconstruction of the main arena for UEFA Euro 2012 from 2.115 billion to 3.006 billion UAH.

Reconstruction of the stadium began on December 1, 2008. It is scheduled to launch the complex in June 2011.

General contractors for the reconstruction project are holding company Kyivmiskbud, AK Engineering (both Kyiv-based) and Master-Profi (Dnipropetrovsk).

President gives instructions aimed at solving problems of Crimean Tatars

President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych gave a number of instructions aimed at solving problems he had discussed with the Crimean Tatars during his meeting with them on August 3.

In accordance with the instructions:

  • Prime Minister Mykola Azarov is to provide that elaboration of the draft laws “On Restoration of Rights of Persons Deported on Ethnic Grounds” and “On the Concept of Ethnic Policy of Ukraine” is completed by November 1 and they are brought in to the Parliament;
  • The Prime Minister is to provide implementation of the measures foreseen to be applied in 2010 by the Program of resettlement of the deported Crimean Tatars and other nationalities who have returned to live in Ukraine, which was approved by Cabinet’s Decision of May 11, 2006;
  • Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and Prime Minister of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Vasyl Dzharty are to elaborate and approve by November 1 the procedure of functioning of the consolidated register of returnees and their families. The officials are also to work out the issue of transferring land plots, which are currently managed by central authorities and are being misused, to local authorities of the ARC with the aim of their later allotment to local citizens so they could build houses there;
  • The Prime Minister of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of the ARC are to provide transparency of land allotment to citizens of Crimea, including those who had been deported. They are also suggest by December 1 a draft plan of restoring sites of historical and cultural value for the Crimean Tatars;
  • Chairman of the Main Control and Revision Office Petro Andreyev is to conduct a check up of utilization of funds provided by the budget for implementation of the Program of resettlement of the deported Crimean Tatars and other nationalities who have returned to live in Ukraine.

Yanukovych assures UEFA Ukraine ready to host Euro 2012

President Viktor Yanukovych wrote a letter to UEFA President Michel Platini, in which he described the process of preparation to Euro 2012, presidential press office reported.

“The chance to host Euro 2012 finals is a great honor for our state; just as quality and proper organization of the competition is a nationwide indisputable priority,” Viktor Yanukovych said in the letter.

“The fact that we have caught up with the backlog of works at the infrastructure facilities and returned to well-managed overall process of preparation proves our intentions. However, we accept constructive criticism and wish to resolve any potential problems and threats that may arise during preparations for the championship in advance,” he said

Viktor Yanukovych pointed out that he and the Government continue to provide the maximum of support to preparation and holding Euro 2012 finals.

“We affirm that the UEFA generalized schedule of completion of basic infrastructure projects mentioned in your letter of 18 June 2010, is acceptable with one clarification regarding the airfield complex in Kharkov: because of the construction of a new runway, the date of putting the airport into operation was postponed to December 30, 2011.

I would appreciate you accepting my invitation and visited Ukraine soon to personally witness the progress in preparation for the tournament,” Viktor Yanukovych said.
