President: Ukraine is ready to contribute to building trust and overcoming new threats

Addressing the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, President Viktor Yanukovych stressed that for him it is a great honor to attend this event that is a credible, respected and promising forum.

In his speech President Yanukovych said that last week he had introduced to the Parliament the bill on foundations of domestic and foreign policy that provides active and constructive participation of Ukraine in building mutual trust between states and overcoming traditional and new security threats.

Viktor Yanukovych noted that in order to achieve that, all the prerequisites were created, the main of which is internal political stability.

“New political leadership initiated a program of systemic reforms aimed at fighting poverty and economic growth. It will allow Ukraine to actively contribute to global efforts to combat common challenges.

Ukraine, being an observer, highly appreciates the opportunity of cooperation within the CICA. I would like to emphasize that Ukraine is your good neighbor, friend and reliable partner. Our strategic goal is to bring relations with countries of your region to a new level.

Something has already been done, but there is still much more to do.

We are open to political dialogue and ready to be mediators if needed. We would like to actively participate in implementation of major projects that are discussed in the framework of your forum, such as development of transport corridors and searching for new routes for energy exports from Asia to Europe. After all, the shortest and most reliable transit routes are through Ukraine. We are also ready to contribute in addressing food security issue in the region,” said the President.

“Ukraine is interested in substantial deepening of trade and economic relations with Asian states. In this context, I would like to draw your attention to the potential of joint economic projects in the Black Sea region.

Finally, we would like to strengthen cultural, interethnic and interfaith cooperation within the CICA states,” said Viktor Yanukovych.

At the end of his speech, President Yanukovych thanked Turkish President Abdullah Gül for hospitality and wished him success in Turkey’s future presidency of the conference.

Tomenko criticizes false strategy and empty promises of president Yanukovych

Tomenko criticizes false strategy and empty promises of president Yanukovych

Mykola Tomenko, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, criticizes false strategy of Ukraine claiming  it is being dangerous as well as mistakes in the course of its implementation.

“Election promises of Viktor Yanukovych automatically entered the strategy of the development of the state for the nearest ten years, which provokes serious concerns,” he said. Tomenko explained that it concerns at least certain essential notions such as the promise to enter the list of 20 most developed countries of the world and reach  the rate of 50 million population in ten-year term.

“It is obvious that such election targets in the activity program were formed by the foreign political technologists whose work is to attract people by the means of beautiful words and constructions,” Tomenko emphasised.

The Deputy Chairman mentioned that none of well known specialists or experts consider these facts possible in remote future. Moreover, according to them, the statements regarding the possible entering of Ukraine the list of 20 most developed world countries is not only inadequate, furthermore it excites scepsis and irony of our European partners.

“Concerning 50 million citizens, the situation does not excite smiles any more as the foreign experts, aware of the fact that the demography specialists predict the figure of 43-44 million, can not comprehend who is going to come to Ukraine to provide the necessary 50 million”, Tomenko stated.

The Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada is convinced that the defining of the strategy of Ukrainian development should be based on real facts. “It is obvious that we should reach big targets, though incorrect facts and aims are the root of all evil”, he declared.

Russian base in Crimea increasing salary, pension debts

Russian base in Crimea increasing salary, pension debts

Salary arrears and debts to the Pension Fund of Ukraine continue to grow at the Sevastopol-based enterprises owned by the Ministry of Defense of Russia and associated with the Black Sea Fleet.

Deputy Head of the Sevastopol City State Administration Iryna Tsokur says that, amid the improving Ukrainian-Russian relations, the fact of growth of the Russian debt “looks strange”. According to her, since the beginning of the year the 13th Shipyard, which belongs to the Ministry of Defense of Russia, has accumulated the debt on salaries from zero to almost four and a half million hryvnias (1 USD – 7.92 UAH).

Among the biggest debtors there is also the Lazarevskoye Admiralty plant, whose wage arrears in May exceeded two million hryvnias. Another 1 million UAH is the debt of the Sevastopol Marine Plant. All of these enterprises are also heavily indebted to the Pension Fund of Ukraine.

But the most difficult situation remains at the Construction Management of the Black Sea Fleet of Russia, declared bankrupt last year. This debt has reached almost 11 million UAH, and this is half of all debt to the Pension Fund in Sevastopol.
