Interpol places Ukraine’s Deputy Security Service head on international wanted list

Deputy head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Tyberiy Durdynets has been put on the international wanted list in line with the resolution of the Prosecutor’s General Office of Ukraine and a respective ruling by Kyiv Pecherskiy District Court. The Ukrainian Interior Ministry`s press service disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday, UNIAN reports.
The police asked everybody who knows the whereabouts of Durdynets to inform the law enforcement agencies of this.

On October 19, 2007, President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko signed a decree dismissing Valeriy Pidboliachny as deputy head of the SBU and the chief of its main department for combating corruption and organized crime. With another decree, T.Durdynets was appointed to this post. However, the Ukrainian parliament`s committee for organized crime and corruption said that it had not agreed to Pidboliachny`s dismissal. In his turn, acting SBU head Valentyn Nalyvaychenko said that a submission dismissing Pidboliachny and appointing Durdynets had been sent to the President when the parliament had not been formed, and the mentioned committee had not been sitting, and thus there had been no opportunity to receive its consent.

On November 4, 2008, the Kyiv District Administrative Court passed a ruling canceling the presidential decree of October 19, 2007 on Durdynets`s appointment. On January 22, 2009, the Kyiv Administrative Court of Appeals rejected an appeal lodged by the President, and upheld the ruling by the Kyiv District Administrative Court canceling the presidential decree on Durdynets`s appointment.

Police put Durdynets on the wanted list on Friday, May 15.

Lutsenko’s son sues German newspaper

Yuri Lutsenko’s son Alexander applied to the Land Court of Berlin. He claimed the Bild newspaper had published information he was throwing a mobile phone into policemen. According to the results of blood alcohol test, he had 3 per mille. Alexander states information is wrong, the Kommersant-Ukraian newspaper reports. According to the newspaper, Alexander Lutsenko asks the court to oblige the Bild disclaiming information and remove the article from the Bild website.

Yesterday the People’s Self-Defense press service published an official document confirming prosecutor’s office at the land court of Frankfurt am Main refuted dismissed investigation against the head of the Interior Ministry Yuri Lutsenko. According to the Interior Minister’s lawyer, prosecutor’s office in Frankfurt am Main suspended preliminary investigation against the son of the Interior Minister Alexander Lutsenko.

Kommersant-Ukraina got a copy of application on security for claim sent by Alexander Lutsenko to the Land Court of Berlin. “You are writing about the incident at the airport of Frankfurt am Main. Lufthansa prohibited my father and me to continue the flight with reserved seats to South Korea. You are reporting as follows: “When policemen arrived at Gate C 15, Ukrainians were throwing mobile phones’. I was not throwing my mobile phone”.

“Then you are writing about me: “At the police station No.19 he was obliged to pass a blood alcohol test. According to the results, he had at least 3 per mille in his blood”. It is a lie”, the Interior Minister’s son states. “Below is the lawyer’s explanation – “blood alcohol test had not been made. That is why there were no results amounting to 3 per mille”. The plaintiff had no concentration of alcohol in the blood because he did not drink alcohol. The plaintiff was not drunk”, Alexander Lutsenko’s lawyer states.

The first hearing is presupposed to be already today in the court of Berlin. Reporters failed to get an official commentary of the Bild newspaper.

Baloha explains his resignation

Former Chief of the President’s Staff Viktor Baloha explains his resignation with dissent from President Viktor Yuschenko’s decision to run for president for the second term, the press service of the United Centre party has informed, referring to Baloha’s resignation notice.

According to the statement, on May 12 Baloha submitted to Yuschenko an official resignation from the position of the Presidential Secretariat’s Chief and gave reasons for his decision.

“I’m convinced you have no moral right to ballot. At least, I’m no companion to you in this matter,” the press service cites the notice text.

Baloha thinks that Yuschenko, while heading the state, failed to fulfill the pledges give to voters.

The second reason for the resignation he called the immediate surrounding of the President who by his will came to power and occupied high public posts.

The ex-Chief of Staff believes that Yuschenko in many personnel appointments was guided not by the specialist qualities but by family and friendly relations.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Yuschenko has dismissed Baloha on May 19.

Baloha is member of the United Centre party.

Justice Ministry: Presidential elections to be held on January 17, 2010

Justice Minister Mykola Onishchuk is convinced that January 17, 2010, is the only constitutional date for holding the presidential elections, he said it on air at the First Public TV channel.

The Justice Minister supported a call from VR Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn to speed up consideration of the issue about the data of the presidential elections. “Since it is difficult to call the political situation in Ukraine as stable, the sooner the Parliament takes a decision about determining the election date, it will have a more positive influence on the political process”.

On April 1, the Verkhovna Rada appointed the presidential elections for October 25, 2009. 401 people’s deputies voted for the relevant resolution. In his turn, Viktor Yushchenko approached the Constitutional Court regarding constitutionality of this decision. On May 12, the Constitutional Court recognized the VR resolution about appointing the current presidential elections for October 25 as unconstitutional.

The Party of Regions’ draft resolution was supported by 205 members of parliament.

Before the voting speaker of the parliament Volodymyr Lytvyn had stated that the situation would have lead to the absurd if both draft resolutions had been voted. He reminded that in the parliament the temporary committee of inquiry to investigate the incident with Interior Minister of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko had been already formed. But MPs didn’t support the speaker’s initiative.
