Ohryzko: Ukraine must not refuse from cooperation with NATO

Ukraine must not reduce the cooperation with NATO, the first deputy secretary of the NSDC Volodymyr Ohryzko said., the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

“I am convinced that Ukraine should not reduce pace of cooperation with the alliance,” Ohryzko said in scope of the round table on problems of national security today in Kyiv.

Volodymyr Ohryzko noted that it is necessary to develop effective mechanism of control over fulfillment of obligations by Ukraine to NATO.

UAH 500 million to be allocated to roads construction for EURO 2012

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has endorsed the list of construction and reconstruction of ring roads around Ukrainian cities within the framework of preparations for the 2012 European Football Championship, according to Urkinform.

According to the document, the total volume of finance for that effort to be allocated from the 2009 national budget’s special fund makes UAH 500 million (UAH 7.70 / USD 1).

Particularly, the money will be spent on construction and reconstruction of highways bypassing Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kyiv and Odesa.

In May 2009, the UEFA will finally call Ukraine’s four cities to host the 2012 European football finals. Following tenders, Kyiv, Lviv, Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk were called the base cities, while Kharkiv and Odesa obtained a reserve status.

Naftogaz and Gazprom signed technical agreement

“Naftogaz Ukraine” national joint-stock company and the Russian gas monopoly Gazprom have signed the technical agreement on coordination of the operation of Russian and Ukrainian gas transport systems, the Naftogaz Ukrainy company said. The agreement was signed in Moscow in scope of the negotiations of the Naftogaz delegation and Gazprom on April 6.

“The sides have signed the technical agreement accompanying the implementation of provisions of 2009-2019 contracts on purchase and transit of gas,” the statement of Oleh Dubina said.

The given agreement has detailed technical conditions and terms of supplies and transit of gas.

The Ukrainian experts noted not once that absence of such agreement is a risk of fulfillment of any contracts between two companies.

PR wants to help Tymoshenko to overcome crisis

The Party of Regions has no disagreements on support of every preson who can overcome the crisis in Ukraine, deputy chairman of the PR faction Anna Herman said, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

“We have no disagreements. We are all unites in aspiration for crisis overcoming. We are ready to support everyone who can do it,” she said.

According to Anna Herman, those who will overcome the crisis, will “be covered with glory”, those who will not manage to do so, must leave with shame.

“We are ready to help the current power but only in case we see they have effective and professional anti-crisis program,” she stressed.

According to Herman, the PR is ready to help, only because the interests of the country are more important than party interests.

President left for Odesa

President left for Odesa

President Viktor Yushchenko left for Odesa oblast on a working visit. ForUm informs, referring to the president’s press service.

Viktor Yushchenko is planned to hold a meeting with students and teachers of the institutions of Odesa oblast. The topic of the discussion – “Ukraine as we see it.”

The President is also expected to meet with redactors of the leading regional mass media.

The President will also get familiar with realization of construction project on deep-sea travel “Danube-the Black sea”.

Ukraine to have visa-free regime to EU countries in 3-4 years?

The President’s Secretariat refused to make any statements on negotiations on free-visa regime. At the same time Viktor Yushchenko informed about significant progress in negotiation process. According to agreements between Kyiv and Brussels, which foresee signing of the road map on visa-free regime, visas to the EU countries for Ukrainians can be cancelled in 3-4 years.

The President Viktor Yushchenko hopes that by June, Ukraine and the European Union will have a clear plan for holding visa-free regime negotiations.

Viktor Yushchenko said that yesterday at a joint press conference with European Parliament President Hans-Gert Pottering in Kyiv.

“Starting from June 4, 2009, we will have a plan with all the steps required for Ukraine’s transition to visa-free relations with Europe,” Yushchenko said.

In turn, Pottering said that Europe does not want to be separated from the rest of the world, but has to worry about the safety of its citizens. He also noted that practical issues, including the visas, should be thoroughly considered.

Lutsenko called MPs clowns, blocking their own circus

The Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko said that MPs have right to block the parliament work. He said that yesterday on one of the Ukrainian TV channels, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

Answering the question, how will the Interior Ministry act in case the President issues a decree on simultaneous parliamentary and presidential election, and the Party of Regions blocks the parliament and the government, the Minister said: “We will look at how the clowns are blocking their circus.”

“This is their right; they come to their circus, block it and say: the worse – the better. We will blame Yulia for everything. And then they come to Maidan and say – Crisis stop!,” Lutsenko said.

BYuT thinks Yushchenko’s ideas have no future

Ideas of the President Yushchenko on possible simultaneous early presidential and parliamentary elections, as well as on all-Ukrainian referendum, have no legal ground. MP from the BYuT Valeriy Pysarenko said on Monday, the ForUm’s correspondent informed.

“I estimate the statements of the President, like such that have no chances for realization,” he said.

According to him, both legislation and Constitution of Ukraine do not foresee possible holding of early elections simultaneously.

At that Pysarenko noted that the legislation foresees holding of early presidential and parliamentary election during one year.

Pysarenko also thinks that changes into the Constitution before the presidential elections are unlikely to be introduced.

He also noted that the BYuT does not agree with necessity to hold early parliamentary elections.
