Tymoshenko: Naftogaz balance for 2009 to be shortly endorsed

Within the nearest weeks the Government intends to endorse the NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine balance for 2009. Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko told a briefing, Government portal informed.

The Head of Government noted that due to the reduction of irrational, inefficient expenditures, the company’s balance would be self-supporting.

Yulia Tymoshenko is sure that 2009 will be decisive in the revival of Naftogaz after bankruptcy and fixing its financial stability. “In 2009 we’ll complete this work,” the Prime Minister highlighted.

The Head of Government also noted that only Naftogaz would sell the gas on the territory of Ukraine, “and no other companies to sell the gas in domestic market”. “When the year of 2009 is over, I’ll show you statistics to make you sure,” Yulia Tymoshenko emphasized.

Yushchenko: Improvement of bilateral relations depends on Russia

Yushchenko: Improvement of bilateral relations depends on Russia

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko says that improvement of the Ukraine – Russia relations fully depends on the Russian Federation, and suggests reinforcement of the business component of bilateral cooperation, Ukrinform reports.

Speaking in an interview with Sweden’s Bonnier Business Press media concern, Yushchenko emphasized that Ukraine is striving to have constructive relations with all foreign states, including Russia. The main thing is that those relations be built on the grounds of mutual respect, equality and good-neighborhood, he said.

The President proposes strengthening business elements in Ukraine’s relations with Russia. Economy and trade are always better advisors than politics, especially as regards restoration of mutual trust, Yushchenko says.

He also listed a number of reasons for contradictions between the two countries.

The main reason, in his opinion, was Russia’s wish to consolidate its international positions through “educating” its neighbors, particularly during the military intervention of Georgia last summer.

Beside that, the President emphasized, Ukraine and Russia chose different socio-political development models. That is why some absolutely technical questions of bilateral relations were overpoliticized by Russia, like free-market rent for the stay of the Black Sea Fleet in Ukraine, or demarcation of state borders. Low-productive discussions also involved historical, cultural, language and other humanitarian questions that are very important to the independent, sovereign Ukraine, Yushchenko underscored.

Tymoshenko to appeal NSDC decision to court

Tymoshenko to appeal NSDC decision to court

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko does not exclude that she will appeal the NSDC decision on gas issue to the court. She told a briefing after the NSDC meeting, Government portal reports.

“If such NSDC decision, having not a word of truth, provides for the return of the corruption schemes of RosUkrEnergo, I will appeal this decision, drawn up as Decree of the President, to court and press for the truth,” she said.

Yulia Tymoshenko is confident that Ukraine gained a victory in gas talks and get out with the lowest gas price. “What do these corrupt speculators need? Do they want me to let them in the market? Not at any price,” she stated.

Yulia Tymoshenko emphasized that if the NSDC even approves the decision on denunciation of the Gas Contract, “it won’t be valid because this Contract is between the two economic subjects and no authority, except the court, can denounce it”.
