Political Rubik cube

Political Rubik cube

Political Rubik cube

It is the task not for nervous to gather Rubik cube quick and right. There are too many secret inner springs in this simple from the first view mechanism.

From the beginning of this week polemics between the Cabinet and the Secretariat have taken new colouring, peculiar to these two “sweet debaters”. The falling out of lovers is the renewing of love…

And it is significant that each side accuses only its political opponents of all conceivable and inconceivable sins.

The main question which is a stumbling block in the dispute of Yushchenko and Tymoshenko remains the same. And it is trivial: will parliamentary elections be finally held or not?

Vitaliy Bala, director of Agency of situations modeling:

– To my mind, this is the President who wants to hold these elections as soon as possible.

I do not exclude that Viktor Yushchenko signed the decree on early elections holding most likely under the influence of his own emotions. He has what to lose.

Viktor Yushchenko hopes that after the elections he will manage to win the political situation in the country for his benefit. And it seems to me that he wants this nightmare to be finished and maybe then everything will be as it has been before. That’s why Yushchenko will insist on elections to be held as soon as possible.

The Party of Regions faction, to my mind, made a big mistake in the Verkhovna Rada, having agreed to go along with the President and his Secretariat. Now whether they want or no, regionals should play the second in this game. It would be better for the PR if early elections are held.

And as soon as possible. Yanukovych and his team need this in order to hold a line and start independent game in new composition of the parliament.

Volodymyr Fesenko, head of the applied political researches center “Penta”:

– Last week the struggle around elections turned into the political war.

In fact the country faced very unpleasant dilemma: either political struggle or search of a compromise in condition of global financial crisis which sufficiently influences Ukraine.

I’m not against elections. I do not demonize these elections. But the situation in the country is such that it is better to look for the compromise, than to strengthen war in the parliament and start total political war.

The President needs elections – this is the fact. But he initiated them after informal agreement and joint actions between the BYuT and the PR had appeared. Yushchenko initiated these elections first of all in order to destroy this union. And he succeeded. Now the BYuT and the PR are opponents.

The second strategic aim of Yushchenko is to move PM Yulia Tymoshenko from her post. He would like to see on this position another person who will be more convenient whom it would be easier to control.

Taras Berezovets, director of “Polittech” PR-group:

– One of the main problems why early elections begins so painful and difficult is the lack of financing of elections headquarters.

It is very difficult for party bosses to explain their sponsors why they should finance several elections running.

Ukrainian elections rise in price every year.

Correspondingly two campaigns, the parliamentary and presidential, are burdens for party sponsors.

That’s why if early parliamentary elections are held, this election campaign will be extremely economical. The budget of the biggest political forces will not exceed USD 50 million. Just for comparison: in 2007 budget of the leading political players exceeded USD 100 million.

Oleksiy Holubytskyi, deputy director of Agency of situations modeling:

The President doesn’t understand one simple think: to hold elections during financial-economic crisis – to give chance first of all for the left populist projects. These projects (what is quite natural) with the slogans “To take everything and divide!” have all possibilities to receive serious percent.

And this can lead to the fact that the country can face the edge of social collapse. And it will take place not because of national or language principle, but because of social principle. And after this the end of political system of Ukraine will come, and then the country as such will not exist anymore.

It’s a pity that the leading political players put on map the destiny of their country to gain their narrow corporative interests.
