Tymoshenko showed journalists how she can’t get through to President

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko called the President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko in presence of journalists from her cabinet in the governmental building today, but he did not answer the telephone.

According to UNIAN, Yulia Tymoshenko invited journalists to show them her attempt to get in contact with the President to discuss possible restoration of the democratic coalition.

Yulia Tymoshenko telephoned the President by the governmental line, held on the receiver for some time, and hung it up at last. She informed journalists that nobody answered her call.

“This is a direct telephone line for communication with the President. The President always answers this telephone, and the Prime Minister always answers this telephone, under any conditions. It [the telephone] works without secretaries. But, over the last 6 months, this telephone works only towards one direction, because when I pick up the receiver I hear only beeps, and nobody answers”, Yulia Tymoshenko said.

According to the Prime Minister, if the President is absent in his cabinet, his secretary transfers the call to himself and promises to call later. “My calls are not transferred anywhere, nobody communicates. And when all this crisis began, I many times picked up the receiver, but I has never got any answers, any meetings appointed, any dialog”, the Prime Minister pointed out.

Chornovil told the truth about Yanukovych and the egg

Party of Regions lawmaker Taras Chornovil surmises that the incident with Victor Yanukovych in Ivano-Frankivsk in the year 2004 was thought out by the Party of Regions headquarters.

He said this to a news conference on Monday, Ukrayinska Pravda reported.

“That time I spoke about the information that I heard and saw at the scene. I still do not know all the details, but I think it was an infernal development by the headquarters, and my presence was also planned by them, considering the particularities of my character”, T.Chornovil said.

“Unfortunately, they planned to gain votes at enmity and opposition. But I may be mistaken”, he added.

As reported earlier, Victor Yanukovych was taken to hospital after being hit by an egg during a visit to the west of Ukraine during the presidential campaign in 2004. Mr Yanukovych was one of the front-runners in the presidential election.  The event set off recriminations between the Yanukovych camp and the opposition.

If Yushchenko dissolves parl before Nov 23, he will violate Constitution – PM

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko believes that if President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko will dissolve the Verkhovna Rada before November 23, he will violate the Constitution.

According to UNIAN, Yulia Tymoshenko claimed this to a press conference in the Cabinet of Ministers today.

“The President does not have such right, in fact, he  may not dissolve the parliament until it is a year since the moment of the previous snap poll – till November 23. If he does so, he will violate the Constitution”, Yulia Tymoshenko said.

The Prime Minister stressed that the year expires only on November 23, because the time should be counted since the date when lawmakers took oath after the snap poll of September 30, 2007.

“Unfortunately, corrupted lawyers give corrupted consultations. You know that representatives of the Party of Regions, as well as representatives of our faction, and representatives of profile committees, clearly stated that the year after the previous snap poll expires on November 23, and it does not matter what is the reason for a snap poll”, she stressed.

At the same time, the head of government emphasized that she is categorically opposed to dissolving the parliament under conditions of the world financial crisis and chaos in the Ukrainian political life.

“If the parliament is dissolved, it will change the pro-European majority in parliament, and will practically throw the country into chaos and vagueness. I believe it will be a crime”, she stressed.

Yulia Tymoshenko called on President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko to agree to resuming the democratic coalition, in a reinforced variant with the Lytvyn’s Bloc.
