Yushchenko provoked Putin to call him a “rogue” – Tymoshenko

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko believes that President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko himself provoked RF Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to make harsh statements when he began to apply the same tone during his foreign visits.According to UNIAN, Yulia Tymoshenko said this at a press conference in the Cabinet of Ministers on Friday, commenting on Putin’s statement about the problems connected with the Ukrainian delegation’s visit to Moscow on October 2.

“All the higher officials at their press conferences, during their public speeches, and in their political life, must follow ethics of behavior. But, at the same time, every state leader has a right on freedom of speech. I also do not like when the President of Ukraine speaking at the world arena calls the Prime Minister a traitor of national interests, a hand of Moscow… When the politician himself uses such a tone, making rough statements at the world arena and offending his partners or opponents, he opens the way for the same attitude to himself”, Yulia Tymoshenko said.

At the same time, the Prime Minister said she regrets that Putin afforded such a statement. “I believe such things are intolerable”, she said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko was delayed flying to talks in Moscow on Thursday when President Viktor Yushchenko, her estranged political ally, commandeered her plane, she told reporters. The reporters said government officials had found a charter aircraft and she had taken off for Moscow with a small delay. Yushchenko`s press service said a plane taking him to the western city of Lviv had developed technical difficulties and returned to Kyiv, where he had taken a “reserve” plane.

According to Russian mass media, when RF Prime Minister Putin got to know about this incident, he said: “A rogue stole her plane”.

Ukraine to fully support Russia's WTO bid - PM Tymoshenko

Ukraine to fully support Russia’s WTO bid – PM Tymoshenko

Ukraine is ready to support Russia`s bid to join the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Ukrainian prime minister said on Thursday.“Ukraine will fully support Russia`s desire to join the WTO,” Yulia Tymoshenko said at her meeting with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in the Moscow Region.

Russia started WTO accession talks in 1995. The latest round of talks with the 153-member global trade organization collapsed in late July, but the top negotiator, Maxim Medvedkov, who is the director of the Russian Economic Development Ministry`s trade talks department, said then that the parties could still return to the negotiating table later this year.

Ukraine joined the WTO in May. The agreement of all 153 WTO members is necessary for a state to join the global trade body.

Medvedkov also earlier said the absence of diplomatic relations with Georgia would not pose an obstacle for Russia`s entry into the World Trade Organization.

“There are a lot of countries in the world that do not maintain diplomatic relations. For example, this concerns the United States and Cuba, Armenia and Turkey, and many other countries. Therefore, the absence of bilateral relations, in principle, does not affect membership,” he said.

Georgia, which became a WTO member in 2000, broke off diplomatic relations with Russia after Moscow recognized the independence of Georgia`s breakaway republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

Russia is the only major world economy still outside the WTO.

Yushchenko became Kuchma: Transfer to the contract army to be postponed for seven years

Representative of the committee of the National Security and Defense Council Anatoliy Hrytsenko states that the National Security and Defense Council has taken a decision concerning the army transfer to the contract basis till 2015. He told journalists at a briefing.

“It’s a pity to tell that the NSDC has taken a decision which soon will appear as a decree of the President that the contract army will be built until the end of 2015. It means 7 years more,” Hrytsenko said.

He also reminded that PM Yulia Tymoshenko insists on cancellation of army conscription from January 1, 2009. He also emphasized that the draft State budget for 2009 foresees that the transfer to the contract must be fulfilled until the end of 2009.

Hrytsenko urges Tymoshenko and Yushchenko to determine with the terms of completion of transfer to the contract army.

As a reminder, Yushchenko exludes possibility of transfer to the contract army from January 1, 2009.

The cancellation of conscription was planned by President Kuchma. The corresponding decree of the former President was signed in April, 2002.
