Tymoshenko: Ukraine is capable to become a bridge for the countries of Europe

Ukraine is able to build high-quality roads to comply with the European standards. Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko announced during a grand opening of Kharkiv – Krasnograd – Pereshchepyne highway in Kharkiv region, Cabinet’s press office reported.

 “Today we have made one more step towards building Europe in Ukraine, towards building European standards,” Premier emphasized. According to Yulia Tymoshenko, opening of the mentioned road will improve transit potential of Ukraine, in particular, will facilitate to trade turnover increase. The Head of Government emphasized, today Ukraine has all the opportunities to become a so-called bridge for all the European states.

Yulia Tymoshenko informed Kharkiv-Krasnograd-Pereshchepyne automobile road is significant for Ukraine as it connects a huge segment of a transit road from North to South. Prime Minister stressed that within the nearest time the mentioned highway is planned to be completed to Dnipropetrovsk and then Ukraine will possess a completed north-south corridor.

In addition Yulia Tymoshenko aired Kharkiv-Krasnograd-Pereshchepyne road appears one the best first category roads in Ukraine. Prime Minister of Ukraine expressed her gratitude to construction enterprises involved into building of the highway. According to the Head of Government, nowadays Ukraine has builders capable to construct roads of high quality and within the shortest terms. At this Premier informed that the cost of automobile road Kharkiv-Krasnograd-Pereshchepyne is threefold down from the cost of analogous highways in Europe. Yulia Tymoshenko was quoted as saying, in average the cost of one kilometer of this road amounts 3.6-3.9 MN USD as compared to 10 MN USD per kilometer in Europe. “This highway is the proof we are starting to build a new Europe in Ukraine and it is a real Ukrainian breakthrough,” the Head of Government declared.

Gov’t to up State Budget expenditures by 24.3 bn UAH for road construction

The Government of Ukraine will increase expenses from the State Budget for road construction. Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko promised during the grand opening of Kharkiv-Krasnograd-Pereshchepyne automobile road in Kharkiv region, Cabinet’s press office reported.

According to Yulia Tymoshenko, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will insist on adoption by the Parliament a draft law on making amendments to the State Budget of Ukraine of the current year which is to envisage increase of expenses for road construction by 24.3 bn UAH. Prime Minister stressed it is fivefold from the budget of the last year.

Yulia Tymoshenko emphasized she would recommend the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine already in September to vote on respective changes to the budget first turn. The Head of Government explained increase of expenditures for road construction would enable building new roads of European quality in Ukraine.

Besides, Yulia Tymoshenko said the Government would ensure long-term crediting of road construction,   providing with long-term credits for 20-30 years under the state guarantees.

Ukraine’s Blonska stripped of silver medal

Ukrainian heptathlete Lyudmila Blonska has been stripped of her Beijing Olympics silver medal after she tested positive for an anabolic steroid, an International Olympic Committee (IOC) official said on Friday, according to Reuters.

“She has been stripped of her medal,” the IOC official told Reuters after an IOC Executive Board meeting on Friday.

Blonska now faces the prospect of a lifetime ban after what has officially become her second doping offence.

She tested positive after her competition on Aug 17.

All top-five finishers as well as several other random athletes undergo drugs tests during the Games.

Blonska, who tested positive to methyltestosterone, had returned to competition in 2005 after serving a two-year doping ban.

It is now up to the International Association of Athletics Federations to impose any further sanctions.

More Ukrainians supporting withdrawal of Russian ships from Crimea

The number of citizens who support the withdrawal of the Russian Black Sea Fleet from Crimea in 2017 is growing.

The Kyiv International Institute of Sociology published the results of a poll.

In particular, compared with results of the poll carried out at the beginning of summer, the ratio of those supporting the Russian pull-out of Crimea has grown from some 22% to some 29%. Another some 17% said Ukraine must press Russia to take out its ships as soon as possible. Some 27% of those polled could not answer the question. Besides, the number of those who believed that Ukraine must prolong the stay of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Crimea after the y 2017 has reduced from some 33% to some 27%.

The poll was carried out on August 14-19. The error margin does not exceed 3.5%.

Party of Regions criticizing BYuT

Party of Regions criticizing BYuT

The Party of Regions criticizes the position of the Ukraine‘s authorities concerning South Ossetia and proposes to take a number of urgent measures, including imposing of a ban on selling weapon to Georgia.

The statement of the faction of the party says.

Hence, the party suggests |considering Georgian conflict at the first day of the parliament’s session, estimating of the actions of Ukrainian authorities and working out of measures to return good-neighbouring Ukrainian-Russian relations.”

In addition, the Party of Regions demands to start political consultations concerning changes to the Constitution in order to determine nonaligned status of Ukraine and to prevent high authorities from involving the country into international conflicts.

The party considers it necessary to ban weapon supplies to hot spots, including Georgia.

The party deputies suggest formation of a parliamentary investigative commission for investigation of “the facts of selling Ukrainian weapon to Georgia and participation of Ukrainians in the conflict.”

UEFA envoy notes progress with Kyiv’s Olympic sports complex reconstruction

The expert team led by Mark Timmer, head of the UEFA department for stadiums and security, that was staying in Ukraine on August 18 – 19 was checking on preparations for the 2012 European football finals, construction of new and reconstruction of old stadiums in hosting cities, the Family, Youth and Sports Ministry press service told.

The experts familiarized themselves with the course of reconstruction of the Olympic national sports complex where it is planned to hold EURO 2012 matches. The reconstruction project was presented by Germany‘s GMP company doing design work.

The sports ministry presented the schedule of priority efforts to reconstruct the stadium.

UEFA experts also received irrefragable answers to questions about financing of all stages of the reconstruction.

Summing up the result of the presentation, Timmer pointed out good progress with the reconstruction project in the past month. He also gave a number of recommendations concerning UEFA’s requirements to elite-class stadiums.
