Odesa Sea Trade Port joins Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports

The Odesa Sea Trade Port (South Ukraine) has become a member of the Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports. Cabinet’s press service reports.

The decision was taken during the 32nd General Assembly of the Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports (MedCruise) in the Italian city of Trieste. Over hundred representatives of maritime cruise ports and cruise companies that are members of MedCruise participated in the assembly.

The participants in the assembly showed interest in the presentation of the Odesa port and expressed desire to take part in the Black Sea Cruise 2008 conference in Odesa on September 24-25.

The state-owned enterprise Odesa Sea Trade Port is located in the southwestern part of the Odesa Bay on an artificially created area of 109.5 hectares. The enterprise annually reprocesses over 14 million tons of dry cargo and 24 million tons of bulk cargo. The annual turnover of goods is 30 million tons.

Yushchenko: No ultimatums to President

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko is ready to meet with representatives of the “People’s Self-Defense” if they refuse from ultimatums. Press secretary of the President Iryna Vannikova stated at a briefing.

She reminded that today Yushchenko held a meeting with the People’s deputies, members of the OU-PSD faction, during which current questions of the agenda of the faction’s work in the VRU was discussed.

According to Iryna Vannikova, the President expressed readiness to hold meeting with members of the “People’s Self-Defense”.

“I’m ready to do this and I will always be ready to meet. But I have one request to those who will represent “People’s Self-Defense”: there must be no ultimatums to the President. Either you go to other institutes with your ultimatums, or if you want a dialog, please, come to the President of your country as normal people with good manners,” press secretary Vannikova cited the President’s words.

PR threatens Tymoshenko with resignation

The Party of Regions wants to hear in the parliament the government’s report concerning the anti inflation measures. As the ForUm’s correspondent reports, deputy leader of the Party of Regions, Olexander Efremov stated on Monday at a Conciliatory council.

“We insist on introduction of the question on government’s report into the agenda of Tuesday,” he said.

Efremov emphasized that introductions into the State budget for 2008 hadn’t been submitted yet and the government hadn’t expressed its opinion concerning the situation around the exchange rate policy.

According to the People’s deputy, “in case of absence of the government in the session hall”, the Party of Regions doesn’t exclude that it will raise the question on Tymoshenko’s Cabinet resignation.

Secretariat doesn’t exclude attempts of appeal against elections’ results

The President’s Secretariat doesn’t exclude possible attempts of appeal against the results of the elections of Kyiv mayor and People’s deputies to the Kyiv council. Deputy head of the President’s Secretariat Maryna Stavniychuk said at a briefing for the mass media.

According to her, the term of appeal against divisional election committees’ work has expired but at the same time there is a possibility to appeal against actions of the city territorial election committee.

“I do not exclude that there can be attempts of appeals but I think that there will be no serious attempts of appeal against the elections,” Stavniychuk said.

Government to initiate NSDC session on the Arsenal Plant situation

Government to initiate NSDC session on the Arsenal Plant situation

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko intends to initiate a session of the NSDC for consideration of the issue on shadow privatization of the Arsenal Plant. She disclosed this during her meeting with the collective of the plant. Cabinet’s press service reports.

According to the Prime Minister, in the nearest future the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will make a request to the Office of Public Prosecutor to speed up consideration of the case connected with the Arsenal Plant. If the Office of Public Prosecutor fails to respond, I will initiate a session of the NSDC for consideration of this issue,” Yulia Tymoshenko stated.

Besides, she expressed concern over the absence of reaction from the SSU and SPF to negative tendencies which take place around their plant, in particular, concerning illegal lease of objects and lands of the enterprise: “We have succeeded to preserve the plant during the war and today we are losing it”. At that Yulia Tymoshenko added that the Government would spare no effort to make the plant resume its facility. In particular, the Prime Minister promised to provide in amendments to the 2008 State Budget funds for implementation of two programs on enterprise’s development.

According to Yulia Tymoshenko, “intellectual potential of the plant is of great importance both for the state and the world”.

The PM also added that today thousands of the Ukrainian enterprises are unlawfully privatized and plundered under the direction of the State Property Fund. According to her, it is impossible to stop this shameful situation without changing the SPF leadership but the Government is trying to do it.

Oleksandr Turchynov met with representatives of the Hutchison Port Holdings

During the meeting the sides discussed opportunities of investing by the Hutchison Port Holdings to the social sphere and port industry development of Ukraine. Cabinet’s press service reports.

Speaking about the investment climate in Ukraine, Oleksandr Turchynov noted that in the course of the first quarter of 2008 the volumes of direct investments to the Ukrainian economy had increased four times. He stressed that “the Government spares no effort for ensuring a favorable investment climate in the country”.

Discussing the investment prospects in Ukraine the Hutchison Port Holdings representatives noted that with the purpose of increasing the total volume of transfer of the Ukrainian ports, by means of investing the sphere it is possible to increase the volumes of container traffic from 1.5 to 7 million annually.

Yushchenko asks People's deputies to follow coalition agreement

Yushchenko asks People’s deputies to follow coalition agreement

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko asked faction of the OU-PSD parliamentary bloc to support his propositions on the amendments to the State budget for 2008 during the consideration in the VRU. People’s deputy Pavlo Zhebrivsky stated in an interview with journalists after the meeting of the faction with the President.

Answering the question, whether there were People’s deputies from the OU-PSD Zhebrivsky said that Taras Stetskiv was present. As earlier reported, the “People’s Self-Defense” party had refused to take part in the meeting with the President.

People’s deputy from the OU-PSD faction Ivan Plyushch stated that Yushchenko had asked People’s deputies to follow the coalition agreement and to adopt first of all draft laws which are foreseen in it.

According to Plyushch, the President criticized the position of the faction during the voting on amendments to the State budget. Yushchenko said that he had spoken with Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and Minister of Finance Viktor Pynzenyk on this issue and they were not against his propositions.

“I think this meeting has become traditional on the eve of the plenary session,” Plyushch said.
