Seven parties enter the Kyiv council

Seven parties enter the Kyiv council

The Kyiv city territorial election committee has finished the count of electronic data of elections’ results.

According to the published data from all 1026 polling stations, bloc of the Leonid Chernovetsky received 30,45%, the bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko – 22,79%.

The Bloc of Vitaliy Klychko recieved 10, 61%, the bloc of Lytvyn – 8,17%, “Civil activists of Kyiv” – 5,95%, the Party of Regions – 3,95%, the bloc of Katerynchuk – 3,47%. Thereby, seven parties and blocs enter the Kyiv council.

PM: President must take responsibility for inflationary processes

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko considers that the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko must take responsibility for inflationary processes in the country as he cancels governmental decisions directed at struggle against inflation. Tymoshenko stated at a press conference in the Cabinet of Ministers.

“Do you remember that there was rising prices for oil and the government reacted as it is foreseen by the legislation – it limited export. The President canceled this. I think that the President has taken responsibility for all questions on inflation,” Tymoshenko said.

The Prime Minister reminded that the President didn’t sign the anti inflation laws which were adopted in the Verkhovna Rada by the democratic coalition and also that the democratic coalition didn’t support all anti inflation laws which the government had proposed.

Besides, Tymoshenko has added that this is not the first resolution directed at struggle against inflation which Yushchenko cancels.

President considers Kyiv elections were held democratically

President Viktor Yushchenko characterized elections of Kyiv mayor and Kyiv Council People’s as democratic. He told Ukrainian journalists at a press conference in Winnipeg. President’s press office reports.

As to the results of the elections President thinks that Kyiv residents have shown that they want to see practical work of the politicians, rather than scandals and reciprocal accusations.

According to the President, the problem of the Kyiv elections is that their aim was not the life improvement Kyiv residents, reforms implementation in the capital, but the revision of the existing power in the city. “It was necessary for some political forces to bring indignation, not quite, revision. Because they thought they could do everything,” Yushchenko said.

According to the President, Kyiv residents had all opportunities freely to express their political likings at the polling stations. He emphasized that Kyiv elections on May 25 were held democratically.

President Yushchenko also urges political forces that have won the right to work in the Kyiv Council and the new Kyiv Mayor to unite in solving real problems in education, healthcare, transportation, etc as Kyiv citizens are expecting them to.

President Yushchenko recieved Honorary Doctorate

President Viktor Yushchenko visited the University of Winnipeg, where at a Special Convocation he received an Honorary Doctor of Laws. President’s press office reports.

Expressing high appreciation of the title President stressed that he perceives it as a display of special confidence and true friendship between peoples of Ukraine and Canada. “First of all it is an acknowledgment of our state’s achievements in democratic development and civil society formation in Ukraine. It is a graphic evidence of importance attached in Canada to relations of distinct partnership with Ukraine,” he added.

Germany is asked to support Ukraine's joining MAP

Germany is asked to support Ukraine’s joining MAP

People’s deputy from the BYuT Ostap Semerak during the session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly called upon the leadership of Germany to support Ukraine’s joining NATO Membership Action Plan.

In particular, at the sitting of the spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly which took place with the participation of Secretary General of the alliance, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer the results of the Bucharest summit and prospective of Ukraine and Georgia to join MAP were discussed.

The Ukrainian politician in his speech called upon German leadership to determine particular steps which German is ready to do in order to bring closer Ukraine’s joining MAP.

According to Ostap Semerak, the support of Berlin would sufficiently assist Ukraine to receive invitation to join MAP at the next NATO summit in December, 2008.

President met with initiators of CMHR

In Winnipeg President Viktor Yushchenko met with members of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. President’s press office reports.

As President was informed at the meeting opening of the museum is scheduled on year 2011. Ukrainian Canadian Congress is taking part in the project and aims to establish a permanent exposition in the museum dedicated to the Great Famine in Ukraine of 1932-1933.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is envisioned to be a national and international destination – a centre of learning and history where Canadians and people from other countries can engage in dialogue and commit to taking action to combat the forces of hate and oppression.

PM states about non-interference with NBU policy

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko asks to stop hysteria around the government concerning the hryvhia exchange rate. She stated at the sitting of the Cabinet on Wednesday, the ForUm’s correspondent reports.

Tymoshenko emphasized that according to the Ukrainian legislation the government has no right to interfere with this question.

The Prime Minister cited the Article 99 of the Constitution where it is written that the stability of the monetary unit is the main function of the Central bank of the State – the National Bank. “This is the authorities of the NBU and the government is forbidden to interfere with the policy and decisions of the National Bank,” she noted
