Lytvyn knows when it is necessary to discharge Semenyuk

Parliamentary faction of the Lytvyn’s bloc will determine on its position concerning leadership of the State Property Fund change only after implementation of the moratorium on privatization of the State property.

“First of all, we will strive for moratorium on privatization and demand this laws to be signed by the President of Ukraine,” he said.

According to Lytvyn, first of all it is necessary to examine whether the practice of total State property sale justifies itself. Then the privatization program should be accepted.

“I’m sure there are many problems here. After this we are ready to take part in consideration of the staff question,” leader of the faction summarized.

Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine met with Vatican’s Secretary of State

Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and International Integration Hryhoriy Nemyria held a meeting with Vatican’s Secretary of State Tarcizio Bertone.

During the meeting topical issues on the Ukraine-Vatican relations have been discussed. In particular, the matter concerned deepening of cooperation in educational, scientific, historical and archival and informational spheres.

“Ukraine as a multinational and polyconfessional state is a unique example of the post-Soviet area where representatives of different ethnos, cultures and religions peacefully coexist,” the Vice Prime Minister noted.

In his turn the Secretary of State stressed that Vatican “very positively estimates the progress achieved by Ukraine in humanitarian sphere and in issues on strengthening democracy”.

The sides have also discussed Eurointegration aspirations of Ukraine. “We highly appreciate Vatican’s support of the European vocation of our state,” Hryhoriy Nemyria noted.

The Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine also thanked His Eminence for Vatican’s support of the Ukrainian stand concerning international recognition of the 1932-33 Famine (Holodomor) in Ukraine as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people. Cabinet’s press service reports.

7 political parties and blocs enter the Kyiv city council

7 political parties and blocs enter the Kyiv city council

According to the processed protocols of 520 polling stations, 7 political parties and blocs enter the Kyiv city council.

In particular, the bloc of Leonid Chernovetsky obtains 29,84% of votes, the BYuT – 22,34%, the bloc of Klychko – 10,57%, the bloc of Lytvyn – 8,15%, “Civil activists of Kyiv” – 5,66%, the Party of Regions – 4,26%, the bloc of Katerynchuk – 3,37%.

Such information was published by the Kyiv city territorial election committee.

1026 polling stations worked during the early elections in Kyiv.

Ukraine will receive from the World Bank USD 140 million

Ukraine will receive from the World Bank USD 140 million for the development of cities’ infrastructure, says WB department head Dmytro Kryshenko. Cabinet’s press service reports.

He noted that the finance would be provided for projects on reconstruction of water supply and sewage facilities, as well as solid house waste treatment. USD 60 million of the sum declared has already been spent on the efforts in Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk and Odesa.

The loans are provided for maximum 30 years, the average term for Ukraine being 17 years with five-year grace periods, when only interest is paid, without capital repayment, the department head said adding that interest rates are relatively not high.

Baloha: People are tired of quarrels and discord

Viktor Baloha, head of the President’s Secretariat, calls to the parliamentary coalition and the Cabinet to return to fulfillment of the coalition agreement and to concentrate on solving of urgent problems after the elections in Kyiv. In particular, these are changes introduction to the state budget, the adoption of priority draft bills, the struggle against inflation and prices rising.

“The coalition and the government must finally stop the internal battles and start constructive work,” Baloha said.

Commenting on the elections in Kyiv on May 25, the head of the President’s Secretariat expressed assurance that they were held according to the acting legislation.

According to him, “the BYuT and the Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense have received a clear message: people are tired of quarrels and discord, they want to see responsible political forces who can work reasonably, effectively for the society and country. Kyiv residences refused to support those who are not capable of coordinated actions at the national level and they did not want to transfer the problems from the parliament and the government in to the city power”.

Ukraine wants EU to show seriousness of intentions

The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine considers that initiative of the so-called “Eastern partnership” must foresee issuance of clear prospective of membership in the European Union by the European neighbors of the EU, who prove the seriousness of their Euro integration ambitions by their peculiar actions and real achievements.

As it is stated in the comments of the Foreign Ministry’s press service, initiatives which are discussed in the EU must foresee additional measures and adequate instruments which would sufficiently strengthen existent bilateral frameworks of the cooperation and promote successful fulfillments of tasks on Ukraine’s integration to the EU.

As earlier reports, Poland and Sweden intend to propose the European Union to form with Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan the organization of the “Eastern partnership”. 27 States-members of the EU will join this unification.

President watched historical reconstruction of Korsun Battle (photo)

On Saturday, May 24 President Viktor Yushchenko went to Vygrayiv village, Korsun-Shevchenkivskiy district to watch historical reconstruction of Korsun Battle of May 1648. President’s press office reports.
 
The event was arranged by members of historical clubs from Ukraine, Slovakia, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia and Belarus with support from the President of Ukraine. Other viewers at the reconstruction were Minister for Culture Vasyl Vovkun, Minister for Family and Sports Yuriy Pavlenko, deputies, representatives from local authorities, etc.
 
Within the framework of the event President also visited an exhibition by folk craftsmen.

Almost half of Kyiv residents ignored elections

Almost half of Kyiv residents ignored elections

According to the preliminary data, the turnout of voters during the early elections of Kyiv Mayor and the City Council makes up 53-54%.

Kyiv CEC Secretary Yuri Lozovskiy stated in an interview with journalists today.

“I cannot tell the exact figure, but it is about 53-54%”, Yuri Lozovskiy said.

According to him, the Desnyanskiy district of Kyiv has not yet provided the information.
