President of Ukraine met with head of "Naftogaz"

President Viktor Yushchenko held a meeting with head of Ukrainian company “Naftogaz”, Oleh Dubyna. President’s press office reports.

During the meeting President noted stabilization of the situation at Ukrainian gas market particularly due to adoption of the company’s deficit-free and well balanced financial plan for 2008.

Pointing to issues requiring attention Viktor Yushchenko stressed importance of introducing modifications to 2008 state budget in the part which concerns Naftogaz of Ukraine.
 
Separately President dwelled on the problem of absence of proper gas supply agreements for 2009. He reminded that the Government failed to form a working group on holding talks with Central Asian countries as well as with Gazprom on gas supplies and transit before May 1.

President Yushchenko met with Levko Lukyanenko

President Viktor Yushchenko met today with Levko Lukyanenko, a member of parliament of three convocations and a head of the Association of Holodomor Investigators in Ukraine. President’s press office reports.

During the meeting Levko Lukyanenko informed Viktor Yushchenko about the initiative to celebrate 20th anniversary of Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Group establishment on July 7.

The parties also discussed Ukrainian language development in Ukraine.

Levko Lukyanenko is one of the founders of Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Group, and its head since 1988; a member of parliament of three convocations; head of the Association of Holodomor Investigators in Ukraine; honorary doctor of the South-African Mandella Institute of Political Leadership and Linguistics; head of the Council of Elders of the Ukrainian Republican Party Sobor; doctor of law (doctorate conferred honoris causa) of Alberta University, Canada; academician.

Educational missile of RF Black Sea Fleet doesn’t make any threats for Ukraine

The mockup of educational missile, belonging to the RF Black Sea Fleet, doesn’t make any threats for people and it has been passed to Russian sailors, the press service of the public relations of the RF Black Sea Fleet reports.

“It was examined in presence of representatives of frontier service, naval service, Extraordinary Ministry and Interior Ministry of Ukraine. During the examination it was established that “this product is not fighting and doesn’t make any threats for people and environment”. The corresponding formal note was made,” the statement of the Black Sea fleet says.

It is noted that this document was signed by all participants of examination and after this the decision on transmission of this mockup to the Black Sea Fleet was made.

It was confirmed in the Black Sea Fleet headquarter that “the product (mockup) was really found at the seacoast near Alushta city by the frontier service of Ukraine”.

Representatives of the RF Black Sea fleet showed documents, confirming that this missile belongs to one of the military unit of the Black Sea Fleet of Russia.

As earlier reported, on Tuesday 27 a missile was discovered at a Black Sea coast in Crimea near Alushta city. The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine delivered a note of protest to the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation concerning the activities of the RF Black Sea Fleet, which tested new missiles on the territory of Ukraine without informing the Ukrainian side about that. The note was given to adviser of the Russian Embassy to Ukraine Vsevolod Loskutov

President to make annual address to nation on May 13

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko will make an annual address to Ukrainian nation in the Verkhovna Rada on May 13.

President’s Press Secretary Iryna Vannikova stated at a press conference on Tuesday.

According to her, the President will make assessment of political and economical situation in Ukraine, as well as international situation. Besides, Viktor Yushchenko will outline a number of tasks for Ukrainian politics.

National Agricultural Chamber of Ukraine and Committee of Professional Agricultural Organizations of EU signed memorandum

The National Agricultural Chamber of Ukraine (NACU) and the Committee of Professional Agricultural Organizations of the European Union (COPA-COGECA) signed a memorandum on cooperation in development of the agriculture’s structure, President of the NACU Mykhailo Hladkyi informed. Cabinet’s press service reports.

According to him, the memorandum provides for cooperation in development and improvement of marketing of the Ukrainian products on the EU and WTO markets, a number of investment projects, as well as cooperation in security and in raising the quality of foodstuffs.

Secretary General of the COPA-COGECA Pekka Pesonen noted that the European Union is interested in development of the European model of agriculture in Ukraine. “The European model includes primarily three trends, namely crediting, a social sphere and protection of the environment”, he said.

Pesonen also noted that the European Union positively appreciates actions of the Ukrainian politicians concerning adaptation of the Ukrainian legislation to the WTO conditions. “It makes us happy. Our main goal is to create a strong position of the Ukrainian farmer and the commodity producer on the WTO markets”, the Secretary General of the COPA-COGECA said.

President prohibited governors to come to Tymoshenko

The President’s Secretariat of Ukraine notes that the government must coordinate with the President the official business trips of the heads of regional State administrations. It is said in the statement of the deputy head of the President Secretariat, Roman Bezsmertny. President’s press office reports.

Bezsmertny notes that Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko has called chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, heads of the regional State administrations and Sevastopol city State administration to visit Kyiv for the meeting in the Cabinet of Ministers.

Bezsmertny pays attention of the PM to the necessity to coordinate with the Head of the State official business trips of the heads of regional State administrations.

Ukraine is indignant at illegal testing of RF Black Sea Fleet in Crimea

The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine delivered a note of protest to the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation concerning the activities of the RF Black Sea Fleet, which tested new missiles on the territory of Ukraine without informing the Ukrainian side about that. The note was given to adviser of the Russian Embassy to Ukraine Vsevolod Loskutov

.As the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine reports, on Tuesday 27 a missile was discovered at a Black Sea coast in Crimea near Alushta city.

“As it found out, on April 15, 2008 the investigation ship of the RF Black Sea Fleet held testings of the missile, during which it was lost,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry informs.

“The tests were not agreed with the Ukrainian side. At the same time, according to the Agreement of 1997 on status and condition of the RF Black Sea Fleet on the territory of Ukraine, the activities of fighting and operation preparation can be held only by agreement with competent organs of Ukraine,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry notes.

The Ukrainian side demands explanations from the Russian side concerning this incident and asks to undertake all necessary measures in order to escape such events in future.

Tymoshenko worries about gas payments

Tymoshenko worries about gas payments

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko is anxious about the situation with payments for internal gas consumption. She has stated today at the meeting with heads of local administrations and gas delivery organizations.

“The situation with payments of regions for natural gas is uneasy. These payments are not performed in time, they are not performed in full volume,” Tymoshenko said.

The Prime Minister has emphasized that payments for consumed natural gas were and are the topic of the national safety of Ukraine for the government.

Tymoshenko has paid her attention to the fact that most gas delivery enterprises of Ukraine are private.
