PM calls political partners to stop opposition with government

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko calls political partners to stop opposition with the government, Yulia Tymoshenko stated at the press conference in the Cabinet of Ministers of Friday.

“The government doesn’t plan to fight, doesn’t fight with anybody and I think it is necessary to stop political opposition in the political environment,” Tymoshenko said.

The PM thinks that the government must “be released from pressure and all illegal decisions” in order to work normally.

Tymoshenko expressed assurance that the government copes with its tasks, including the struggle against corruption, fulfillment of profitable part of the budget, stop of the corrupted privatization.

According to Tymoshenko, the reason of the political instability in Ukraine is non balanced Constitution, which was adopted in a hurry in 2004, and struggle among political partners.

Yushchenko admitted armed forces of other states to Ukraine

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko signed a Decree “On the right of access of the armed forces of other states on the territory of Ukraine in 2008 for participation in multinational military studies”.

The Decree was published on April 25 on the official site of the Head of the State.

According to the document, within the framework of the military cooperation the President allows to admit to the territory of Ukraine the armed forces of the foreign states: the Russian Federation, the Kingdom of Belgium, the Republic of Moldova, the Republic of Belarus, the USA, Romania, the Republic of Poland, Canada, and the Lithuanian Republic.

Tymoshenko appointed new State Property Fund head

Tymoshenko appointed new State Property Fund head

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko represented new head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine, Andriy Portnov. Tymoshenko stated at the press conference today.

Tymoshenko noted that Portnov today fulfills duties of the State Property Fund.

As a reminder, on February 6 the Cabinet of Ministers discharged Valentyna Semenyuk from the position of the head of the State Property Fund and appointed Portnov as the acting head.

The Cabinet also appointed new deputies chairman of the State Property Fund.

But on February 7 President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko by his degree stopped the Cabinet’s resolution on Valentyna Semenyuk discharge from the position of the State Property Fund head. The President also sent the corresponding submission to the Constitutional Court concerning the constitutionality of the Cabinet’s resolution.

Yuriy Yekhanurov has left for Prague

Yuriy Yekhanurov has left for Prague

Today on April 25 in the capital of Czech republic the meeting of the Defense Ministers of the Visegrad Four member-countries (Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Czech Republic) will take place.

As the press service of the Defense Ministry informs, Ukrainian delegation, headed by Defense Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov, has left for Prague to take part in the meeting.

During the visit, Yekhanurov will hold talks with his foreign counterparts, and sign a program for the development of cooperation between the Ukrainian and Hungarian Defense Ministries for 2008 – 2010.

He is also scheduled to meet with First Deputy Defense Minister of the Czech Republic Martin Bartak.

USA considers Ukrainian economy as “little bit unusual”

Former chairman of the Federal Reserve System council Alan Greenspan considers that economy situation in Ukraine is “little bit unusual”. He stated on Thursday at the conference, organized by investing Concorde Capital company.

According to him, from the one hand Ukraine is quickly developing country, from the other hand – it has recently left centralized planned economy.

Greenspan also noted that in connection with crisis events in the world economy Ukraine must adequately react to such challenges and to hold corresponding course policy.

Yushchenko doesn’t intend to “clip Tymoshenko’s wings"

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko states that his criticism in an address of the government is made in order to help, but not to hurt the Cabinet of Ministers. He stated at the press conference in Kyiv.

“When you hear criticism from my mouth it is made in order not to clip wings, but to inspire,” the President emphasized.

Yushchenko noted that none of his actions is aimed at confrontation neither the Prime Minister, nor the parliament’s chairman.

“My aim is to provide normal dialog,” the Head of the State emphasized.

At the same time Yushchenko said that the consolidating policy of the President, democracy elected government, and the parliament is necessary.

When the policy is based on the policy of one person it becomes more and more difficult, the President noted.

He called to consolidation, noting that it is not necessary to use politicking instead those functions, which must exist in the working regime between the President, the Cabinet and the parliament.

President defends National Constitutional Council

At his quarterly press conference President Yushchenko expressed assurance that the only right way to work out a new edition of the Constitution would be through National Constitutional Council rather than through creating temporary commission in the Verkhovna Rada for that. President’s press office reports.
 
He however noted that preparing modifications to the Constitution without participation of the Parliament would also be wrong. “We must respect democratic parliamentary institute. On the other hand we may not ignore population and voters as it had been in 2004. That is why corresponding referendum and dialogue with people should be held,” he said.

President demands access to national media for Crimea

President demands access to national media for Crimea

President Viktor Yushchenko wrote a letter today to Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko drawing her attention to specialty of social-political situation in Crimea as well as negative informational influence exerted on the region by neighboring states. President’s press office reports.

According to President, such situation requires effective response from state authorities, and particularly from the Cabinet of Ministers, aimed at forming national information policy in the region. Therefore he put a task before the Government together with National Television and Radio broadcasting Council, Council of Ministers of Crimea and other ministries concerned, to ensure in two weeks term proper access of the region to national mass media and provide coverage of distant and mountain located villages by national radio and TV programs.
