Future US President to support Ukraine

US Ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor states that irrespective of who becomes next US President, the USA guarantees support to Ukraine in its Euro Atlantic aspirations. The Ambassador told participants of the international conference “Protection of democratic values and observance of people’s rights in activity of special services”, which takes place in Kyiv.

Taylor noted: “Irrespective of who will be in the White House, all three senators: Barack Obama , Hillary Clinton and John McCain guarantee support to Ukraine in its Euro Atlantic aspirations”.

The Ambassador also noted support of the USA to actions of the Security Service of Ukraine on its way to transparency and the Service reformation, the aim of which is demilitarization.

Arrears of wages are shame of Ukraine

Tymoshenko: Arrears of wages are shame of Ukraine

The question on arrears of wages is urgent and “hot”. Prime Minister of Ukraine stated at the press conference, the ForUm’s correspondent reports.

She emphasizes that today’s government has inherited these arrears from the predecessors.

“These arrears are reaching high numbers today – these are hundreds and millions of UAH. And the fact that the previous government didn’t cope with this problem is a shame of Ukraine,” the head of the government said.

Tymoshenko promises that every Minister will be responsible for liquidation of arrears of wages.

Zvarych: Illness of the speaker is not a reason to postpone NCC sitting

People’s deputy from the OU-PSD Roman Zvarych doesn’t consider illness of VRU chairman Arseniy Yatsenyuk as a reason to postpone the sitting of the National Constitutional Council. He stated in an interview with journalists

According to Zvarych, this reason is not convincing.

As the People’s deputy said, today serious group of people have gathered in the Secretariat, they are not the last in the State.

“At least something could be done at this stage,” Zvarych considers.

Sitting of the National Constitutional Council was postponed

Sitting of the National Constitutional Council was postponed

The sitting of the National Constitutional Council is postponed at the request of the VRU chairman Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

Deputy Head of the President’s Secretariat Maryna Stavniychuk informs that Yatsenyuk has returned from Portugal and he is sick. President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko has taken a decision to postpone the sitting of the Constitutional council at the request of the speaker.

Stavniychuk has expressed the opinion that the sitting will be held after May holidays.

She also informs that draft concept of the Ukrainian Constitution reforming was distributed to everybody, who was present and during May holidays they will be able to get acquainted with it.

Ukraine, EU open 2nd round of free trade zone talks

Ukraine, EU open 2nd round of free trade zone talks

The second round of negotiations on the creation of a free trade zone between Ukraine and the European Union will take place in Brussels on April 23 – 25, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry press service reported.

Ukraine’s delegation to the talks will be headed by Deputy Economy Minister Valeriy Piatnytskyi, and the European delegation by Head of the European Commission’s General Directorate for Trade Ewa Sinowiec.

The negotiations will proceed at three workgroups: for trade in goods and services; company foundation, investments, traffic of capital and payments; as well as trade rules.

The delegations are planning to discuss free traffic of goods, particularly, commodity origin rules, promotion of commerce, customs issues, technical regulation, standards and correspondence evaluation proceedings, as well as sanitary and phytosanitary measures.

Provisions on the creation of a free trade zone are called to become a component part of the new base treaty between Ukraine and the European Union.

The negotiations on the creation of a free trade zone between Ukraine and the European Union were officially opened by Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko and European Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson during a meeting in Kyiv on February 18 this year. Cabinet’s press service reports.

President visited Chernobyl nuclear power plant

President visited Chernobyl nuclear power plant

Within the framework of his visit to Kyiv region President Viktor Yushchenko came to Chernobyl nuclear power plant. President’s press office reports.

There he put flowers near the memorial, honoring those who lost their lives fighting Chernobyl disaster. After that President Yushchenko took part in opening of Vector radioactive waist recycling complex and was present at unloading of the last fuel cell from reactor of the plant. Unloading fuel cell from the reactor is an important step towards decommissioning the plant in accordance with President’s instructions of December 5, 2005.

During his visit to Chernobyl President Yushchenko was accompanied by Emergencies Minister Volodymyr Shandra, Kyiv Regional Administration head Vira Ulyanchenko, other officials.

The delegation of the World Bank gave high assessment of the government’s work. Prime Minister of Ukraine stated at the enhanced sitting of the government on Wednesday, the ForUm’s correspondent reports.

She emphasized that the delegation of the World Bank gave high assessment of the government’s work, connected with support of macroeconomic rates, anti-inflation measures of the government, and struggle against corruption.

Tymoshenko assures that in near future Ukraine will forget about inflation.

Tymoshenko: There is no alternative to external testing

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko considers that there is no alternative to external testing of the school-leavers. She stated at the enhanced sitting of the Cabinet on Wednesday, the ForUm’s correspondent reports.

“If we want a transparent worthy system of knowledge assessment to be started in our society and in our country, it is necessary to unite now all efforts and to do everything possible in order this system to get rid of defects,” the PM said.

Tymoshenko noted that the government should overcome all troubles “step by step”, without making negative image for external testing.

Tymoshenko is sure that this year “a giant step forward was made” and now all children hold external testing.

“I think that one could hardly expect more radical step from the government,” she said.
