Tymoshenko: Dialogue between Ukraine and Schengen states on non-visa regime is necessary

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko thinks that it is important to launch of dialogue between Ukraine and Schengen states on possibility to introduce non-visa regime. The Head of Ukrainian Government stated during her speech at the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. Cabinet’s press service reports.

Yulia Tymoshenko told that beginning of such dialogue is envisaged by the Action Plan between Ukraine and the European Union. “We know that negotiations won’t be rapid but it is important that we have launched it as we’ll know now what demands to be made of Ukraine and how these demands our state should ensure”.

At that Yulia Tymoshenko thanked Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Poland for the achieved agreement on small border traffic and expressed wish for the soonest implementation of this agreement. Yulia Tymoshenko expressed gratitude to Polish people for the support of strategic aspirations of Ukraine.

Moreover, the Prime Minister of Ukraine told that during the meeting with PACE President Lluís Maria de Puig she made a request to accelerate appointment of Ukraine’s representative to the European Court of Human Rights.

President signed WTO Protocol ratification law

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko has signed today the Law of Ukraine “On ratification of the Protocol on Ukraine’s accession to the World Trade Organization”.

As earlier reported, on April 10 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine had ratified the protocol on Ukraine’s joining the World Trade Organization.

The parliament charged the Cabinet of Ministers with the task to approve plan of actions for adaptation of Ukrainian economy to WTO standards within a month.

BYuT accused Yushchenko of destruction of coalition

BYuT faction demands that President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko should stop destruction of the coalition. BYuT leader Ivan Kyrylenko stated, the ForUm’s correspondent reports.

“The head of the state and his environment totally destroy all beginnings and initiatives of the democratic government to please political interests. All anti corruption programs of the Cabinet are blocked… In fact, the corrupt schemes are preserved, which destroy the country, and panic around inflation is swollen consciously,” the BYuT leader said.

The People deputy has emphasized that the NSDC resists the government as it was in 2005 and it is formed due to people, “who throw provocative ideas into the society”.

He has noted that the BYuT regrets that in this situation Yushchenko and his environment act not for the consolidation of the society.

Leader of the BYuT has said that this statement doesn’t concern the OU-PSD faction. He has emphasized that the BYuT will do all possible in order to keep the coalition.

BYuT proposed Yushchenko to discharge Cabinet of Tymoshenko

During last month President Viktor Yushchenko disgraces Ukrainian government outside of Ukraine. As the ForUm’s correspondent reports, People’s deputy from the BYuT Mykola Tomenko has stated in his speech in the VRU.

According to Tomenko, the BYuT faction stays silent, when it hears reproaches about the government from the side of the President’s Secretariat and the NSDC. At the same time he emphasizes that last statements of Yushchenko outside of Ukraine show disrespect for all Ukraine.

Addressing the Head of the state, Tomenko states that if the President considers the Secretariat and the NSDC as his government, then he must state that he doesn’t trust the Cabinet of Tymoshenko. “Then let him discharge the government of Tymoshenko and work with the opposition government of Yanukovcyh,” the People’s deputy said.

President presented prize in science

President Viktor Yushchenko took part in a ceremony of presentation of Ukrainian State Prize in science and technology to scientists. President’s press office reports. 

Among the awarded with 2007 Prize were 6 academicians, 74 PhD’s and 41 candidates of science including 25 young scientists.

In his address President greeted those present and said that development of science should be one of state and national priorities.

President met with Greek leader

President Viktor Yushchenko met yesterday in Kyiv with the President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias who currently staying in Ukraine with an official visit. President’s press office reports. 

The parties discussed topical questions of bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and Greece including how develop political and economic cooperation.

President Yushchenko also a subject of Greece supporting UNESCO’s resolution on honoring Holodomor victims and world community recognition of the Great Famine genocide against Ukrainians.

The two Presidents also discussed possibilities to liberalize reciprocally visa rules for citizens of the two countries. Separately sides discussed social protection of Ukrainian workers in Greece and fulfillment of their cultural and information needs.

Viktor Yushchenko thanked the Greek side for its support of Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations. He also promised to fulfill President Papoulias’s invitation and visit Greece officially in 2008.
