BYuT rejects agreements with PR

People’s deputy from the BYuT Ostap Semerak
has stated that he doesn’t know about agreement of the BYuT and the PR to raise
minimum number of votes for political, which are necessary in order to enter
the VRU at the next parliamentary elections parties. He stated in an exclusive
interview with the ForUm’s correspondent, commenting on the corresponding
statement of the Volodymyr Lytvyn.

According
to Semerak, the BYuT faction doesn’t hold any behind-the-scenes negotiations,
without the agreement with the coalition. “The existence of the democratic coalition
is very important for us, and the BYuT confirms all interfaction agreements, first
of all, with the OU-PSD faction,” the People’s deputy assured.

Semerak is
sure that information of Lytvyn doesn’t correspond with reality. According to
him, such statement is caused by the discussion, which has been started in the
parliament concerning the election legislation.

Lytvyn: BYuT and PR have their agreements

The Party
of Regions and the bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko agreed to raise minimum number of votes
for political parties, which are necessary in order to enter the VRU at the
next parliamentary elections. Volodymyr Lytvyn made such statement on April 7.

According
to him, the biggest political forces agreed to raise the minimum number of
votes from 3% to 11%.

“If these
agreement are realized, which now exist between the BYuT and the Party of
Regions concerning raise of minimum number of votes, then it is obvious that
these two oligarchic planned-financial clans will divide Ukraine in to
left and right banks,” Lytyvn said.

President met with Ukrainians living in Libya

President
Yushchenko met in Tripoli with the Ukrainian
community of Libya.
The event was arranged at Ukrainian Embassy to Libya. President’s press office reports. 

The Ukrainians
living in Libya asked Viktor
Yushchenko about cultural development of Ukraine,
the country’s language policy, perspectives of Ukraine joining NATO, etc. To the
question about possibility of opening Ukrainian school in Tripoli President responded
that although there are no legal grounds regulating the question of financing
national schools abroad, the issue is topical and not only in case with Libya.

President
Yushchenko also attended Andriy Pervozvanny Church of Ukrainian Orthodox Church
located on the territory of the Embassy. He noted the tolerant attitude of Muslim
Libya towards other religions. “It is very important that one can go to an
orthodox church on African continent. It is a great respect towards our religion
demonstrated by this country,”
Viktor Yushchenko said.

Within the framework
of the official visit to the Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya President
Yushchenko held a meeting with Leader of this country Muammar al-Gaddafi. The
meeting was held in Marquee of the Leader and Guide of the Libyan Revolution on
the territory of his residency. The President’s press office reports.

“We hold
warm and friendly negotiations with the Libyan leader,” Yushchenko said during
the meeting with Ukrainian  community,
which was held after the meeting with Muammar al-Gaddafi.

“I’m sure that
we have a unique chance for cooperation, if we have right attitude to our
mutual possibilities,” President Yushchenko said.

During the
meeting the sides discussed prospects for Ukrainian-Libyan cooperation in many
fields including trade, economic, energy, agriculture, transport, etc. President
Yushchenko also pointed to perceptiveness of cooperation in military field as
well as space exploration and aviation.

Separate
attention was paid to humanitarian cooperation such as increasing a number of Libyan
students, who learn in Ukrainian institutes. Besides President Yushchenko
touched upon a subject of recognizing the Great Famine 1932-1933 the genocide
against Ukrainians by the Libyan side.

Yekhanurov to do everything possible in order Ukraine to join MAP

The Defense
Ministry of Ukraine will do all possible in order Ukraine to join NATO Membership
Action Plan this year. Defense Minister of Ukraine Yuriy Yekhanurov stated
yesterday.

As the
press service of the Defense Ministry informs, Ekhanurov noted: “The military
men will do everything necessary. There will be no problems because of us. The
question is after politicians”.

According
to him, for today it is necessary to fulfill practical work on renovation of the
armed systems and military equipment in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to
complete the process of army formation. “Today the reformation of the Armed Forces
of Ukraine is the reformation to the modern methods of operation holding. This
is very hard work,” the Defense Minister of Ukraine emphasized.

Ukraine congratulated Croatia on joining NATO

Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine
Konstantyn Yeliseyev who is on working visit to Croatia,
has been accepted by Stjepan Mesić, President
of the Republic of Croatia.
The Ukrainian diplomat has conveyed Mesić the personal message of President of
Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko, which contains the congratulation on invitation of Republic of Croatia to join the North Atlantic
Treaty Organization.

As the Embassy of Ukraine in Croatia informs, it is said in the
congratulation: “The Invitation in NATO, as well as election to Security
council of the United Nations, became significant successes of Croatia on its
way to the European and Euro Atlantic integration, the important recognition of
a role of your country in system of the international safety coordinates”.

“Sharing your foreign policy
priorities concerning safety and stability in the Southeast Europe and the
world, I’m sure, that the Ukrainian-Croatian relations in which the high level
of trust and mutual respect
is inherent, will become a guarantee of further dynamic development on the
way to single and prosperous Europe,” the letter of the Ukrainian
President says. 

In turn, Mesić
expressed gratitude and greeting to Yushchenko, having confirmed readiness to
visit Ukraine
with official visit in July, 2008.

President took part in World Movement for Democracy assembly

President took part in World Movement for Democracy assembly


President
Viktor Yushchenko took part in 5th assembly of the World Movement for Democracy. President’s press office reports.

In his
address President Yushchenko stressed that Ukraine’s cooperation with NATO and
the EU is strategic and country’s membership in these structures is a doubtless
Ukrainian perspective.

“Today we
must get international guarantee of our sovereignty for the first time in our
history,”
Viktor Yushchenko said, adding that collective defense provides the
best response to such a challenge.

He also
expressed assurance that Ukrainian side will be able to achieve provisions on association
status in a new advanced agreement with the EU, expected to be signed in autumn.
“The suggestion on that has been formulated and sent to European Commission
office and to the EU member states. I think that we will conquer this path in nearest
months and will achieve the prospect of our European membership as we achieved
it in North Atlantic Treaty Organization,” he said.

Speaking
about development of democracy in Ukraine President Yushchenko said: “We
would like to see our country democratic, where fundamental freedom exists –
the freedom of political choice”.

He also
dwelled on main directions of economic reforms. Here President said that
despite economic development deceleration in the nineties Ukraine has reached 7
to 8 percent yearly GDP growth in last three years; investment flow to Ukraine and
gold reserves have increased; unemployment has decreased, with all these factors
making Ukrainian economy more independent and stable.
