President met with Speaker and PM

President
Viktor Yushchenko held a weekly meeting with Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko
and Verkhovna Rada Speaker Arseniy Yatsenyuk. President’s press office reports.

Main
discussed subject during the meeting was the need of revaluation of economic indices
for 2008 by the Government as well as of introduction of modifications to the
budget with regard to prices growth and inflation. Separate consideration the
officials gave to balancing Naftogaz of Ukraine’s financial flows.

In his word
President said that anti-inflation measures should be given proper attention
with all necessary measures applied to stabilize the situation. He also
expressed opinion that the Government should make strategic conclusions aimed
at providing both stabilization of the situation and development policy.

Discussing
the situation around NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine the officials noted that the
financial plan of the company has not been prepared. Prime Minister also
informed President on the course of gas trade negotiations with Russia
and financial situation in Naftogaz of Ukraine.

Other
participants of the meeting were NSDC Secretary Raisa Bohatyryova, Minister of
the Cabinet Petro Krupko, heads of BYuT and OU-PSD parliamentary factions Ivan
Kyrylenko and Vyacheslav Kyrylenko, Presidential Secretariat Chief of Staff
Viktor Baloha and his First Deputy, Representative of the President to the
Cabinet Oleksandr Shlapak.

Government may change macroeconomic indicators

Ukraine’s
First Deputy Prime Minister Oleksander Turchynov does not exclude that the Government will correct
macroeconomic indicators before drafting of the bill on amendments to the 2008
national budget. Cabinet’s press service reports.

He
emphasized that the main reason for analysis of public finance is the world
inflation process. In his words, the government will analyze in detail this
influence on Ukrainian economy.

“All
countries are facing serious problems. To say nothing about domestic science,
even the world’s is dragging behind global processes. This is a new quality of
changes and a serious challenge. It all needs analysis in order not to
demonstrate a formal approach to the budget,” Turchynov
emphasized.

In March,
inflation was 3.8%, and in January – March 9.7%.

The 2008
budget was based on inflation of 9.6% and a real GDP growth of 6.8%.

Yatsenyuk hopes that plenary week will be quite

Speaker of
the parliament Arseniy Yatsenyuk hopes that the plenary week will be quite and
productive. As the ForUm’s correspondent reports, he stated at a briefing in
the Verkhovna Rada.

According
to Yatsenyuk, on Thursday the parliament will consider draft bills concerning Ukraine’s
joining WTO.

Yatsenyuk
informed that the VRU will listen to the report of the Foreign Ministry
concerning Ukraine’s
participation in the peacemaking operation and the  report of the Fuel Ministry concerning purchasing
of nuclear fuel for Ukraine’s
nuclear power stations.

The
speaker emphasized that on Friday an hour of questions to the government will take
place.

Besides, according
to the VRU chairman, on this day the People’s deputies will hear the report of head
of the National Bank Volodymyr Stelmah concerning money-and-credit market of Ukraine.

Ukraine starts introducing 109 ecology standards

Ukraine starts introducing 109 ecology standards

In 2008,
the Environmental Protection Ministry of Ukraine launched implementation of 109
standards in the field of land, water and forest resources, Environment
Minister Heorhiy Filipchuk
told a press conference.  Cabinet’s press office reports.

In his
words, this year the Ministry is planning, particularly, to extend the area of
natural reserves to 7%. Now this area makes 4.94%, with a European standard of
minimum 15%.

Apart from
this, Filipchuk says, by the end of the year it is
planned to outline reserve zone borders, or extension of areas will produce no
effect.

Yushchenko has left for Libya

President
of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko has left with an official visit for the Socialist
People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya. 


As the
President’s press office reports, the visit foresees the meeting of the President
of Ukraine with leader of the Libyan revolution Muammar al-Gaddafi.

 

Also, the bilateral
negotiations under the chairmanship of the President of Ukraine and Prime Minister of Libya
are planned.

 

Within the
framework of the visit the signing of bilateral Ukrainian-Libyan documents will
take place.

Yatsenyuk is against presidential form of governing in Ukraine

Yatsenyuk is against presidential form of governing in Ukraine

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada
of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk states that he supports improvement of
parliamentary-presidential model of republic and he is against
implementation of merely presidential or parliamentary form of governing in Ukraine. He
stated during the meeting with regional mass media.

“I’m against the return to
classical presidential form of governing or transfer to parliamentary form of governing,”
Yatsenyuk said.

According to Yatsenyuk, at
the current level of Ukraine’s
development none of these two models will give positive results.

At the same time, the
speaker doesn’t exclude that in future Ukraine can become the state with
merely parliamentary form of governing.

President took part in bringing order to Mystetsky Arsenal territory


President
Viktor Yushchenko took part for the second time in civil action of bringing
order to Mystetsky Arsenal territory. President’s press office reports.

President stated in an interview with journalists: “Undoubtedly if I am in Kyiv, if I am in Ukraine, I will
be here every Saturday with my kids, and I invite everyone to take part [in the
action] until we bring order here”.

Together
with Viktor Yushchenko acting Head of Security Service Valentyn
Nalyvaichenko, Internal
Minister Yuriy Lutsenko, Defense Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov, State
Affairs Department head Ihor Tarasyuk, Kyiv institutes students,
cadets, etc took part in the event. President Yushchenko also brought
his youngest son Taras with him.

Kiev Arsenal factory is one of
the oldest and most famous industrial factories of Kyiv. In 2004 it was
suggested to establish a modern art gallery in the oldest 19th century building
of Arsenal. Later, President Viktor Yushchenko expressed his support to the
museum idea but suggested that the museum had to be state-run and dominated by
more traditional art pieces in order to become a “Ukrainian
Hermitage”. The process of converting the building to a civil use is
underway. Most of construction works are to be finished by the end of 2008 and
the museum is to openin its doors by Independence Day of 2009.

Tymoshenko calls upon Ukrainians to do good deeds today

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko congratulates Ukrainians on Annunciation
Day.
 

“I congratulate you with great and bright holiday of Annunciation and I sincerely
wish you that happiness and good never leave holy city Kyiv and all our holy Ukraine. I want
every corner of our country, every house, every man to feel joy, warm and
comfort on this day,” the congratulation of the PM says.

“Let every of us do one good deed on this day, help neighbor, smile to
unknown, wish all good to friends. Then, I’m sure, all the world will become a little
bit brighter, more cheerful and happier,” the PM emphasized.
 

On April 7 the Orthodox Church celebrates the Annunciation of the
Blessed Virgin. This day is one of the greatest twelve Christian holidays.
