Yushchenko believes that Ukraine will join MAP in future

President Viktor Yushchenko is sure that Ukraine’s joining MAP will bring no discomfort to any country. Yushchenko stated in an interview with Romanian television TVR-1.

Among the discussed subjects were Euro-Atlantic integration, in particular, perspectives of joining MAP, Ukrainian energy policy and safety, the issue between Romania and Ukraine with Zmiyiny island status and results of President George W. Bush’s visit to Ukraine.

Estimating the cooperation of Ukraine and NATO, Yushchenko emphasized that Ukraine passed through all phases, including the intensified dialog. “The next stage is MAP,” the President expressed his assurance, reminding that Ukraine is the only one country, being not NATO member, but which takes active part in almost all peacekeeping operations of the Alliance all over the world. “Hereby we confirm that we support strategic priorities of the Alliance and we are the state, which the Alliance can rely upon,” he said.

According to the President, the choice of Euro Atlantic course in the sovereign right of every state. “We are guided only by national interests. The interest is not aimed against the third country, including Russia,” the Head of the State confirmed.

Boag: NATO membership is not obligatory for joining EU

EU states that it is not obligatory for Ukraine to be NATO member in order to enter EU. Representative of the European commission in Ukraine Ian Boag said on Thursday.

Boug reminds that there are EU countries-members, which are not NATO members, and vice versa. He emphasizes that some EU countries-members have entered the European Union, being NATO members, but this is not obligatory order of actions.

“Membership in EU and membership in NATO are two absolutely different procedures,” Boag said.

President wrote letter to PM

President Viktor Yushchenko wrote a letter to Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko today. President’s press office reports.

In his letter President noted that at his meeting with OU-PSD deputies, they expressed concerns to him about the Government’s staffing policy. According to them, there are some people occupying governmental positions despite their reputation and personal qualities contradict with the principles, on which the Democratic coalition is based.

For example, acting first deputy Minister for Regional Development Oleksiy Ishchenko has been a deputy of Viktor Medvedchuk at Presidential Administration during Leonid Kuchma’s presidency and is said to have been involved in falsification of 2004 presidential elections results in favor of Viktor Yanukovych. There were also other officials named by President in his letter, whose positions in offices according to him are worth to be re-discussed.

Viktor Yushchenko expressed expectancies to Yulia Tymoshenko that the coalition as a whole and Mrs. Tymoshenko personally would reconsider achievements of those, mentioned in the letter and initiate Cabinet of Minister’s appropriate decisions on them.

“I also expect that further staffing incentives of the Government would correspond with a spirit of the Democratic coalition agreement,” President wrote  in his letter.

European commission to allocate money for reforms in Ukraine

The European commission plans to assign additional means for reforms in Ukraine. European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighborhood PolicyBenita Ferrero-Waldner stated at today’s press conference.

“This will not be big amount of money,” she said, emphasizing that sum of money is being specified.

The commissioner added that it is planned to assign means this year, and most likely, they will be directed at judicial reform, struggle with corruption and improvement of business-climate in Ukraine.

NATO didn’t perform MAP to Ukraine

Question on Ukraine’s and Georgia’s joining NATO Membership Action Plan is postponed to December. NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer told at a press conference on Thursday.

At the same time he noted that it was decided to support the applications of two states concerning NATO and to hold intensive political dialog at the highest level. “Today we have decided to support the applications of these states,” Scheffer.

According to him, during “intensive political contacts” it is necessary to solve questions how Ukraine and Georgia will implement MAP.

Oshchadbank gets another UAH 300 million to pay compensations

The Cabinet of Ministers earmarked allocated UAH 300 million (USD 1 – UAH 5.05) to the State OshchadBank to compensate deposits of the former USSR SberBank which were placed till 1992 and depreciated as a result of inflation, the OshchadBank press service reported.

In accordance with the Governmental resolution of January 9, 2008 on the procedure of compensation of the citizens’ depreciated deposits, UAH 5,760 billion are allocated to OshchadBank for the purpose. Cabinet’s press office reports.

Court prohibited to write false information about Tymoshenko on advertising boards

On Wednesday the court of Kyiv prohibited dishonest information on advertising boards, which misinterprets and gives false information about government’s activity.

According to Volodymyr Pylypenko, representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the court, the court took the corresponding decision on application of the government, which had addressed the court with a demand to stop violations of legislation on advertisement.

According to Pylypenko, the court notes that some advertising media perform incorrect and false information, which discredits the government’s activity and does harm to the state and society.

Tymoshenko promises to follow activity of investors

Tymoshenko promises to follow activity of investors

The government of Tymoshenko is open for cooperation. Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko stated at a meeting with investors on Thursday, the ForUm’s correspondent reports.

Tymoshenko addressed investors with the proposition to write together with theirs strong juridical, economic and finance departments the main changes and amendments to the acting laws.

According to the head of the Cabinet, the governmental structures are not so dynamic in the question of achieving aims, as the business structures are. That’s why the speed of work on preparation for Euro-2012 will be in the arms of investors, than the government.

“If we will build the cooperation right, this will concern not only Euro-2012, but also all directions of our joint cooperation,” Tymoshenko noted.
