President appointed new deputy head of Secretariat

President appointed new deputy head of Secretariat

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko appointed Andriy Honcharuk as the deputy head of the President’s Secretariat.

It is stated in the President’s Decree, published on his official site.

By his previous decree Yushchenko increased quantity of deputies head of the President’s Secretariat from eight to nine persons.

All-Ukraine Intelligentsia Forum is open in Kyiv

The All-Ukraine Intelligentsia Forum is open in Kyiv with participation of President Viktor Yushchenko, Speaker Arseniy Yatsenyuk, MPs, representatives of the executive branch and NGOs.
 
The 1,200 delegates from across Ukraine as well as representatives of the Ukrainian communities in Kazakhstan, Russia, Spain, Azerbaijan, Georgia and other countries are planning to discuss the Draft Concept of the Humanitarian Development of Ukraine.
 
Among its priorities are achievement of a new quality of life, creation of a knowledge-based society, support for the civic activities and development of civil society as well as cultural and political consolidation of Ukrainians as a European nation. Cabinet’s press office reports.

Tymoshenko believes in coalition effectiveness

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko is sure that coalition of democratic forces is effective. She said that today in scope of the meeting with diplomats.

“First 100 days of work of the democratic team show that coalition is effective. We have taken stuff decisions. We have adopted budget for 2008. For today we have adopted all significant laws necessary for the country. I think that next week the parliament also will work and adopt necessary decisions,” Tymoshenko said.

Tymoshenko waits for visit of Bush

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko considers that visit of the US President George Bush to Ukraine will give new stimulus for activation of Ukrainian-American relations. Tymoshenko stated today during the meeting with diplomats.

“We hope that visit of the US President will give another serious stimulus in development of our economic relations,” Tymoshenko said.

The Prime Minister is sure that during the visit of the US President to Ukraine very important agreements will be achieved. “We are waiting for this visit,” she emphasized.

Netherlands are against Ukraine’s joining NATO

The Netherlands are against Ukraine’s and Georgia’s joining NATO in near future. Foreign Minister of the Netherlands Maxime Verhagen stated on Wednesday in his speech in the Holland parliament.

So, the Netherlands joined the position of Germany, France, Belgium and Luxemburg. The USA and the Great Britain have the opposite points of views, they want Ukraine and Georgia to become NATO members as soon as possible.

At the same time, Maxime Verhagen states that he is not against these countries to become NATO members. According to him, it is necessary to choose appropriate time.

The Foreign Minister thinks that invitation of Ukraine and Georgia could be postponed for a year, for example.

Hrytsenko does not exclude that Ukraine may have “surprises” on fool’s day

Today a break of legislation and Constitution by all branches of power is observed in Ukraine. The chairman of the parliamentary committee on national defense and security Anatoly Hrytsenko said that today in scope of the reund table devoted to “100 days of government work”.

According to Hrytsenko, violations are made by the President side, government and also by other representatives of power.

He drew attention of power representatives to these violations. Hrytsenko got a reply from head of President’s Secretariat which says that President acts in accordance with the Constitution.

According to Hrytsenko, the government has become a hostage of its own populist election campaign because it should fulfill all given promises. At the same time, the government works not in friendly but in hostile environment.

In this connection Hrytsenko called all branches of power to act transparently while solving principle issues. In particular, according to Hrytsenko, the issue on gas price needs serious talks. “But the President, government and opposition government are afraid to speak of those things which are unsolved,’ Hrytsenko said.

He reminded that gas issue is not finally solved. “I do not exclude that on April 1, when Bush comes here, Russia may cut gas supplies. So on fool’s day we may have serious problem,” he added.

Nemyrya wants to hold public discussions on MAP

Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Hryhoriy Nemyrya during the “Day of the open doors”, which took place in the Cabinet of Ministers on Thursday, commented on the possible joining NATO Membership Action Plan at the Bucharest summit. The ForUm’s correspondent reports.

Nemyrya has noted that from the side of Ukraine all necessary steps were done in order to join the MAP. “We understand that discussion in NATO concerning this still continues… there is no consensus in NATO. We respect the right of all countries, which are NATO members, to have such discussion,” he said.

The vice Prime Minister is sure that in any case the progress is seen in this question. He considers that it is necessary to hold public discussions concerning Ukraine’s joining the MAP. “I have invited Foreign Minister of the opposition government, Konstantyn Hryshchenko to hold such discussion… I confirm this invitation,” Nemyrya said.

Cabinet approved all draft bills on WTO

The Cabinet of Ministers approved last ten draft bills, which are necessary to adopt before the protocol ratification on Ukraine’s joining the World Trade Organization in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Minister of Economy Bohdan Danilyshyn informed during the “Day of the open doors” in the Cabinet of Ministers.

“The government has done absolutely everything necessary for Ukraine’s joining the WTO, and now the parliament must solve this question,” Danilyshyn emphasized.
