Ukraine prepares for economic integration to EU

Ukraine prepares for economic integration to EU

Ukraine plans to prepare agreement on free trade zone with the EU not earlier than in September of the current year. Foreign Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Ohryzko informed today in scope of information meeting of European business association.

He noted that Ukraine would start cooperation with the EU concerning creation of free trade zone after Ukraine’s joining the WTO.

“I do not think it will be too soon. I do not think we will manage to do it by September 2008. But within a year or 14 months we must reach agreement which will allow us to approach to economic integration,” he said.

As a reminder, on January 16, 2008 Ukraine and the EU reached a compromise on export duties that removed last obstacle on the way of Ukraine to the WTO. Ukraine expects that decision on its joining the WTO can be adopted on February 5-6 at the session of General Council of the WTO.

Tymoshenko promises EU good partnership

Fore Ukraine issue on diversification of supplies of energy resources is a question of political independence and freedom. PM Yulia Tymoshenko informed yesterday in an interview.

“That’s why all projects, connected with diversification of energy resources supplies to Ukraine simultaneously reach system of national priorities of the EU. It means we can be good partners in this issue -in construction of new transit gas corridors – trans-Caspian and trans-Black sea. It is important for Ukraine and the EU,” Tymoshenko said.

According to her, Ukraine can bee a partner at creation of gas consortium on the basis of oil pipeline “Odesa-Brody” which can be alternative corridor of oil supplies to Europe.

“We think about joint projects on production of alternative nuclear fuel for Ukraine, taking into consideration opportunities and experience of the EU,” she said.

Tymoshenko noted that Ukraine’s membership in the EU is not considered in short-term perspective, but system of gradual integration of this or that spheres is obvious.

Tymoshenko: Ukraine’s joining NATO splits Ukrainians

Open discussion on Ukraine’s relations with NATO is started in Ukraine but this decision will be made only at national referendum. Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko informed yesterday in an interview.

“It is very complicated issue for Ukraine. Ukraine’s accession to the European Union is supported by 70% of Ukrainians, but issue on joining NATO splits Ukrainian society.” She said.

 
“Now Ukraine faces open, transparent, information discussions concerning NATO and how it will influence Ukraine. But we consider it is necessary to cooperate with NATO as we do now. Further actions and steps must be decided only by means of referendum,” Tymoshenko noted.

As a reminder, on January 15 President Viktor Yushchenko, PM Yulia Tymoshenko and VRU speaker, Arseniy Yatsenyuk signed and forwarded a letter to NATO secretary concerning Ukraine’s joining Action plan on membership in NATO.

Last week representatives of opposition blocked parliamentary podium, demanding to withdraw the letter. According to them, issue on joining NATO must be considered at National referendum.

Accession to WTO is a real chance to boost business

PM: Accession to WTO is a real chance to boost business

Ukraine’s accession to the WTO will strengthen position of national entrepreneurs in world trade processes. PM Yulia Tymoshenko stated in an interview with “Euronews” channel on January 30.

“Business which works out of competition is weak and helpless. That’s why real competition only boosts business areas of every country. I would like all entrepreneurial spheres in Ukraine to be strong, modern, competitive and accession to the WTO gives such chance,” Tymoshenko said.

Prime Minister is convinced that the country, being beyond the world market for a long time, will be actually “on the side of all world trade processes.”

“We are really glad that Ukraine has passed all procedures necessary to be a WTO member. We have been anticipating this moment and hope it will happen on February 5-7,” she added.

Government approves Pension Fund Budget for 2008

Government approves Pension Fund Budget for 2008

Government approved a balanced budget of the Pension Fund for 2008 which provides pension differentiation according to seniority and average monthly wage. Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko told at a press conference summing up the Government sitting. “In other words, during the year we quarterly abolish equality in pensions,” the Head of Government added, Cabinet press office reported.

The Head of Government told that this budget provides for essential pensions raise beginning October 2008. “From October 1, 2008 we’ll see one more pension raise connected with change of the evaluation coefficient for every year of seniority,” Yulia Tymoshenko said.

The PM noted that wages raise would take into account the inflation processes. “The wages raise we saw from the very beginning of this year is not last. Quarterly we recalculate pensions depending on the inflation processes and then, from October 1, there will be significant raise,” Yulia Tymoshenko said.

UEFA to deprive Ukraine of Euro-2012?

Ukraine and Poland cant delay preparation for Euro-2012, the UEFA President Michel Platini stated.

According to official web-site of UEFA, Platini called governments of Ukraine and Poland to mobilize their efforts in preparation for Euro-2012 in order to avoid critical slump.

“I feel that next four -six months will be extremely important in order to avoid any critical slumps in sports and public infrastructure projects and to protect the global credibility of the Euro project itself,” it is said in Platini’s statement.

According to Platini, two countries have new governments. They must work effectively at every aspect of preparation, beginning with stadiums, roads and airports.

Ukraine needs effective anti crisis actions

Yushchenko: Ukraine needs effective anti crisis actions

 In 2008 the government has chances to hold inflation rates. President Viktor Yushchenko informed today at the “State and business are partners” forum, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

According to the President, during completion of the budget 2008 it is necessary to finish discussions concerning budget characteristics especially its deficit. The President expressed assurance that nobody would destabilize situation on economic market.

“Undoubtedly, urgent issue is development of effective anti crisis actions in the State in which all participants of economic area must be involved, starting with the government, Finance Ministry, National bank, business and local authorities,” Yushchenko noted.

Yushchenko informed that such program is already being developed. He expressed assurance that in some weeks Ukraine would be ready to meet challenges which are now existing on regional market.

PM intends to work in harmony with all branches of power

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko promised to work in harmony with all branches of power. She said that today at the press conference, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

“I consider that the government must do its business, take decisions and implement transparent methods of all state procedures. The government must carry out all reforms in harmony and interconnections with democratic coalition and the President. I as the head of the government will do everything possible the harmony to be achieved,” Tymoshenko said.

According to her, at the beginning of work some definite roughness can appear. “But I want you to know that I will be patient as much as it is necessary at any conditions,” she added.
