NATO expecting to develop relations with Ukraine

NATO expecting to develop relations with Ukraine

NATO expects further development of relations with Ukraine, ransoming form returns of snap parliamentary election in Ukraine. This was disclosed by NATO Assistant Secretary General Martin Erdman. According to him, the issue will be in question at a sitting of the Ukraine – NATO commission at the level of foreign ministers in Brussels on December 7, Government’s press office reports.

According to Erdman, NATO thanks Ukraine for its contribution into missions under the aegis of the Alliance. This contribution is of a greet value and we consider a prospect to proceed this work in the contest of an intensified dialogue and special partnership between Ukraine and NATO, he said. He also noted that NATO officials seeks to meet with Foreign Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk to exchange views on further development of relations between Ukraine and NATO and expect Arseniy Yatsenyuk to express his view. After the Cabinet reshuffle we will develop bipartite relations with Ukraine, Martin Erdman said.

He also reminded that NATO’s Brussels-based HQ lacks in Head of the Ukrainian Mission within NATO.

Prosecutor’s office to investigate third explosion at Zasyadko coal mine

The Prosecutor’s office of Donetsk region has brought a criminal case concerning next accident at Zasyadko coal mine.

As the press service of the regional Prosecutor’s office reports, in connection with the accident that took place on December 2, an action was brought before the court according the article 272, part 2 of the Criminal code of Ukraine (safety regulations violation during the execution of works with increased danger, which caused deaths).

The press service specifies that pre-trial investigation is being held by investigatory department of the Prosecutor’s office of the region.

President demands care for the disabled

On December 3 President Viktor Yushchenko headed a meeting “Ukraine without boundaries” dedicated to International Day of Disabled Persons observance and gathering representatives of state authorities and public organizations, President’s press office reports.
 
Opening the meeting President noted insufficiency of efforts being made by the authorities to execute President’s decrees of 2005 on improving the life conditions of disabled persons. Among the others Viktor Yushchenko criticized Ministries of culture, social policy, transport and education. “Unfortunately society sees little of your work. I evaluate your work low and would like to see our today’s meeting to be a starting point for actions we had not done yet,” he said.
 
President informed that he had commissioned Secretariat of the President to prepare a draft decree on evaluating the activity of the heads of regional administrations on execution of President’s decrees of 2005. “I am reassured that those people who don’t understand their mission and who’s morality evidently does not correspond to their status and posts must send in their papers,” Viktor Yushchenko said.
 
President emphasized that the meeting is to result into basic protocol which would oblige all officials and authorities responsible for ensuring appropriate life to disabled people to resolve a number of issues during next 6 month. “Until July 1, 2008 intermediate report must be prepared on implementation of measures mentioned in both President’s decrees and government’s plan of additional measures regarding arraignment of auspicious living conditions for people with physical disabilities,” he said.

Tymoshenko is sure that PR members will come over to her party

BYuT leader Yulia Tymoshenko is sure that after the VRU chairman election and the government formation some People’s deputies from the camp of the opponents will try to come over to the side of the BYuT and the OU-PSD. She stated on Monday during the solemn meeting of the BYuT.

Tymoshenko has noted that the BYuT and the OU-PSD must do all necessary “so that to close this tunnel of turncoats.”

She has noted that the democratic coalition must demonstrate how the anticorruption program is built. According to her, the first step must be the law on imperative mandate adoption.

“We will achieve the responsibility of the People’s deputies who betray,” Tymoshenko said.

PR wants to vote for speaker by secret ballot

The election of the VRU chairman must be held by secret ballot and every People’s deputy must vote independently. People’s deputy from the Party of Regions stated in an interview with parliamentary journalists, ForUm’s correspondent reports.

“I’m a supporter of broadcasting of voting on air so that people to see how the election of the VRU head is carried out, how the votes are counted,” she noted.

According to Bohatyryova, if such procedure is implemented, then the first step for stoppage of talks and accusations in political corruption will be done. The People’s deputy has stated that the constitutional demand concerning the speakers’ election by secret ballot is the main demand in order People’s deputies of the sixth convocation to start follow the Constitution.

Earlier, BYuT leader Yulia Tymoshenko informed that her faction would insist on the open vote during the election of the VRU chairman.

President attended exhibition

On December 3 President Viktor Yushchenko attended all-Ukrainian exhibition of nationally produced goods for disabled persons’ rehabilitation and artistic works made by people with disabilities, President’s press office reports.

During the opening President said that both Ukrainian society and State must to make lots of efforts to ensure life without boundaries to disabled persons in our country.

Viktor Yushchenko gave negative evaluation to efforts of both local and state authorities on the matter. Regarding the government to his mind not only Ministry of Labor and Social Policy but other bodies as well should be evolved to care for disabled. “Unfortunately most of the work is still in front of us,” President said.

President also emphasized that society should realize its responsibility before disabled persons. “Issue of creating space without boundaries for the disabled in Ukraine is one of the top standing in my action plan,” he added.Then Viktor Yushchenko saw the display of all-Ukrainian exhibition of nationally produced goods for disabled persons’ rehabilitation and artistic works made by people with disabilities.

Ukraine and Poland amended treaty on traveling procedure

The Governments of Ukraine and Poland have signed the Protocol on Amendments to the Treaty on Traveling Procedure of Ukrainian and Polish Citizens, the Foreign Ministry’s press-service of Ukraine reported.

The instrument has been signed in view of Poland’s entry into the Schengen zone from December 21, 2007 and envisages a number of advantages for Ukrainian citizens when receiving visas in Poland.

Notably, Ukraine’s citizens will be able to receive free of charge short-term visas till December 20 to be valid even for the period after December 21, 2007. Those Ukraine’s citizens planning to stay in Poland for more than 90 days with the purpose of employment, studying, treatment will receive national Polish visas even after the country enters the Schengen Agreement. Government’s press service reports.

Yanukovych is ready to close Zasyadko mine

Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has stated that if it is necessary to close Zasyadko mine, in order to prevent deaths, it will be done. He told journalists in Donetsk at Zasyadko mine, after the sitting of the Governmental commission on investigation of causes and liquidations of consequences of the catastrophe.

“Today we have spoken about how to prevent other deaths and what we must do for this. If it is necessary to close the mine, we will do this,” Yanukovych said.

At the same time he has stressed that annually Zasyadko mine extracts 3 millions of tons of coal.

“Taking into account that Ukraine has 6 millions of tons coking coal deficit, we will face big economic problems,” Yanukovych noted.

The Prime Minister has informed that at the moment work of the coal mine has been brought to a stop, and there are only three men under ground who keep up the regime of dewatering.

According to Yanukovych, he phoned Russian PM Viktor Zubkov and they discussed the question on international aid in the investigation of causes of the explosion at the coal mine. Yanukovych added that he addressed specialists from Poland, Germany and the USA with a request to render scientific assistance in the investigation.

Referring to the experts, Yanukovych said that the accident caused many questions. And there are no answers still.
