President met with PM of Romania

President met with PM of Romania

President Victor Yushchenko met with Romanian Prime Minister Calin Popescu in Bucharest on Wednesday, President’s press office reports.

Two leaders spoke about how to develop Ukraine’s economic, border and regional cooperation with Romania. Ukraine wants to reequip and build border crossing stations along its border with Romania and also implement joint projects to develop energy transport infrastructure.

Yushchenko and Popescu also discussed visa and national minority issues.

The Ukrainian leader said his country appreciated Romania’s support for its EU and NATO membership bid and urged Romania to recognize the Great Famine of 1932-1933 as genocide.

Vinsky: Two problems should be solved by OU-PSD and BYuT

One of the BYuT leaders Josyf Vinsky is sure that two problems are necessary to be solved for the firmness of the democratic coalition of the BYuT and the OU-PSD bloc. He has stated today in an interview with journalists after the registration of 94 People’s deputies of the BYuT in the Central Election Committee.

According to Vinsky, these questions concern imperative mandate and accurate structure of the “Our Ukraine”. “If we decide these problems, we will have very strong and very powerful coalition,” he said.

Commenting on intentions to form a united party on the basis of the OU-PSD, Vinsky noted that “such necessity is overripened”. According to him, it was necessary to be done in 2002.

Yanukovych discussed economic role of the State

Yanukovych discussed economic role of the State

Prices increase, inflation growth and perspective of price increase for energy resources make question on role of the State in the economic sphere and effective levers of influence on inner market more active. PM Viktor Yanukovych said that today at the Cabinet session, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

According to Yanukovych, today some politicians recommend Cabinet to wait until market balances destructive processes in economy. Yanukovych considers such advices are unreasonable and irresponsible. “Our government has never taken position of economic deserter,” he said.

PM noted that the State was and will be influential economic player. Economic effectiveness depends not only on the government actions but on some Ministries

According to Yanukovych, Ukraine as never before needs coordinated work of all branches of state power, government, heads of regional administrations, the President and Secretariat departments.

Taking it into consideration, Yanukovych highly appreciated wide sessions under participation of the President, government members, heads of regional administrations and local authorities.

“We must make conclusion from our experience and to overcome distance we achieved during political crisis,” he added.

Cabinet cant work without VRU

PM: Cabinet cant work without VRU

For today the main task for power is to provide cooperation of all branches of power. Ukraine’s PM Viktor Yanukovych said that today at the Cabinet session, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

He reminded that official publicizing of elections results has already taken place. “So the parliament will be formed and renew its work soon. I suppose we all felt that the government cant work without the parliament,” Yanukovych addressed to his people.

According to Yanukovych, the Head of the country must support effective cooperation between government and parliament.

PM reminded that there were no political forces participating in the election campaign, which would not say that society is fed up with conflicts and political confrontations. Yanukovych considers Ukraine needs stability.

PM said that urgent tasks for next year is to adopt state budget 2008, accession to the WTO, judicial and land reforms, inflation overcoming and smoothing of economic imbalance.

According to Yanukovych, it is impossible to live under conditions that were in the country for last half of a year.

Ecuador recognized Holodomor in Ukraine as an act of genocide

On October 30 the National congress of the Republic of Ecuador adopted a resolution by which the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine was recognized as an act of genocide of the Ukrainian people. Chairman of the subcommittee on interparliamentary relations, bilateral and multilateral relations of the foreign affairs Committee of the VRU of the fifth convocation Oksana Bilozir informed.

As it is noted in the statement, the parliament of Ecuador also shows solidarity with the Ukrainian people, noted that following of principles of justice, freedom, democracy and mutual respect, which must be the basis in the relations between the countries in order such phenomena as Holodomor in Ukraine doesn’t repeat again.
 
Ecuador is the second country after Peru, the parliament of which recognized Holodomor in Ukraine as an act of genocide of the Ukrainian people.

11 countries have already recognized Holodomor in Ukraine.

Yanukovych is against “tug-of-war of power authorities”

Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych is concerned that power in Ukraine deals with relations clarifications. He said that today at the Cabinet session, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

“We deal with our inner problems, we clarify relations, while the world goes ahead, nobody will wait until we sort out our relations,” the PM said.

According to him, Ukraine is very depended on world rates fluctuations and changes on markets. We have not still become a member of the WTO and do not have balanced economic legislation that would be attractive for foreign investors,” he noted.

Yanukovych is sure that government must give fewer promises but carry out more reforms.

According to Yanukovych, existing problems in the country demand coordinate work of all branches of power and power institutions. “Game of confrontations and tug-of-war of power authorities may be a fatal for national economy and the State in general,” he stressed.

Yanukovych noted that executive power must remain to be an instrument of improvement of economic situation in the country but not to be a place for fight for authorities and economic redistributions.

Law is one for everyone

Yanukovych: Law is one for everyone

Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych considers that the government shouldn’t neglect the work of its predecessors. He stated at the Cabinet of Minister’s session on Wednesday, ForUm’s correspondent reports.

“The policy of results denial of predecessors should become a thing of the past. We shouldn’t neglect what has already been built, what has been made before us by millions of citizens of our country, including our colleagues – members of the government. This should be preservedů” Yanukovych said.

According to him, the development of law on bases of inner and foreign policy of the country must become common project for all branched of power. Yanukovych is sure that this law must be included in the program of first-priority bills which will be submitted for consideration in the parliament of the sixth convocation.

Yanukovych supports “gas” position of Yushchenko

Opening the Cabinet session, Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych charged Fuel and Energy Ministry to complete negotiations with “Gasprom” on gas supply and price for Ukraine within ten days. The ForUm’s correspondent informs.

“It is very important issue that restricts us and work from formation of state budget 2008 and program of social-economic development,” he said.

Yanukovych reminded that President Viktor Yushchenko expressed position concerning gas price, announced during current negotiations, was “unfavorable” for Ukraine. Yanukovych noted that he supported President’s position.

Yanukovych noted that according to government calculation, gas price must not be higher than USD 150-160 for thousand cubic meters. He informed that after Cabinet session the government would hold consultations on this issue. “I consider we have possibilities to persist in our position taking into consideration price for gas transportation to Ukraine,” he said.
