Yanukovych promises to pay off debts

Prime Minister of Ukraine, leader of the Party of Regions Viktor Yanukovych promises to pay off debts to citizens of Zhytomyr region, suffered from Chornobyl accident. He has told journalists today in Zhytomyr.

“A new draft bill was adopted in the first half a year. Unfortunately, it has remained in the parliament, and when new parliament starts its work, it will be adopted immediately,” he said.

According to him, the draft bill foresees the raise of payments to families with children, suffered from Chornobyl accident, the liquidation of debts for previous years and the first half a year 2006, and the compensation for lost dwelling and property as the result of resettlement.

Yushchenko stands for business improvement

Yushchenko stands for business improvement

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko proposed business representatives to form organ that will elaborate legislative initiatives, aimed at improvement conditions for business in Ukraine. He said that today while opening forum “Power and business -partners” taken place in Kyiv.

The President proposed the entrepreneurs to concentrate attention on four topics: licensing issues, liquidation of technical obstacles, development of tax system and role of control organs.

The President promised to submit for consideration these initiatives to the parliament as urgent draft bills.

Yushchenko expressed confidence that in the near future there will be formed new government and new parliamentary majority that will concentrate on economy development.

The President noted that it is necessary to change the situation radically to improve the situation in economy in 2008.

Left parties are ready to support CPU

Left parties are ready to support leader of the Communist party of Ukraine Petro Symonenko at the early elections on September 30. ForUm’s reports, referring to the press service of the SPU.

“The address of Ukrainian communists’ leader Petro Symonenko to the left parties and the followers of the left idea to vote for the CPU at the early parliamentary elections and thereby to provide considerable and strong representation of the left forces in the parliament finds the response,” the statement says.

In particular, the Council of the “Justice” party has taken the decision to support the party of Petro Symonenko at the early elections, and to assist the election campaign holding of the CPU party.

As earlier reported, according to the Kyiv international institute of Sociology, the Party of Regions, Yulia Tymoshenko bloc, “Our Ukraine – People’s Self-Defense” bloc, and the Communist party will be elected in the VRU.

Foreign Ministry optimistically estimates Ukraine-EU negotiations process

Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Andriy Veselovsky predicts that new strengthen agreement between Ukraine and the European Union may have been concluded till the end of 2008. He has stated today at the press conference in Kyiv.

“Optimists say the negotiations may have been finished this summer or probably in the end of the next year,” deputy Minister said.

According to Veselovsky, five rounds of negotiations concerning agreement have been already held; the next round will take place in October in Brussels. At the moment of the document signing the collaboration by cooperation sectors will have already existed.

Yanukovych insists on continuity of power

Party of Regions leader Viktor Yanukovych considers that guarantee of stable development of the State is continuity of power. Yanukovych said that today during his visit to Zhytomyr region.

“We need to reconstruct industry, to make preparations to final matches of Euro-2012 and to reconstruct the Sate. Continuity of power is a guarantee of stable development of the country,” he said.

Yanukovych also considers that it is necessary to create effective power system “when local authorities are subordinated to local citizens and governors are elected but not appointed by Kyiv.”

According to Yanukovych, election of regional and district state administrations will contribute to increase of responsibility of officials for their regions.

Yanukovych praised Zhytomyr regional council

Leader of the Party of Regions Viktor Yanukovych positively estimated the activity of guidance of Zhytomyr regional council. He stated during the meeting with citizens of Zhytomyr region, having introduced chairman of Zhytomyr regional council Iryna Synyavska to participants of the meeting.

Yanukovych has noted that “this woman also stands up for interests of community of the region, she defends her people with might and main”.

Also, Yanukovych has said that “Ukrainians should elect council heads of different levels from local leaders and not bring them from the capital”.

Hrytsenko: Any reformations of army and defense policy must be agreed with the President

Defense Minister of Ukraine Anatoly Hrytsenko stated that any initiatives of political forces concerning reformation of army and defense policy must be agreed with the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko. He said that today in Rivne region.

“There is no and will never be an army of “Our Ukraine”, Party of Regions, BYuT or somebody else as well as there will be no military policy of OU, BYuT ,PRů There will be one Ukrainian army and defense policy,” he said.

“This defense policy can be realized only after its support by parliament, government and of course by the President as Supreme Commander in chief of Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Hrytsenko said.

He said that the majority of statements of political forces are groundless and they will not be realized. In particular such statements concern stop of conscriptions from January 1, 2008 and increase of money provision of lieutenants.

Hrytsenko noted that Yushchenko took responsibility to transform army to contract army by the end of 2010. It is very difficult task for the whole state

He noted that transformation of army to contract army from 2008 is a mere adventure and it cant be implemented.

Earlier Yulia Tymoshenko undertook from January 1, 2008 to cancel conscription to urgent military service and from 2009 to transform army into professional basis.

Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant has signed agreements with Novarka and Holtec International

Oleksandr Chalyy, deputy head of President Victor Yushchenko’s secretariat, said ata press briefing on Mondaythe Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant had signed a 5-year USD 505-million deal with the French construction company  to build the New Safe Confinement and a 52-month USD 200-million contract with the American energy technology company Holtec International to build Storage for Spent Nuclear Fuel 2, according to president’s press office.

Chalyy said President Yushchenko had been in talks with the EBRD, the G8 and the donor states over the past two years to sign these contracts. “The president of Ukraine will personally follow the implementation of these contracts so that they should be implemented according to schedule and properly,” he said.

Chalyy said today’s ceremony to sign these deals was a “launch of a nuclear security project in which Ukraine will work with the world’s leading countries, with the G8.” “This step means Ukraine is proceeding to practical actions aimed at making the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant an environmentally safe facility.”

He added thatthe country’sprominent scientists and nuclear specialists would be involved in the project.
