"Ukraine, My Ukraine" photo exhibition opens in Kyiv

"Ukraine, My Ukraine" photo exhibition opens in Kyiv

The 12th Ukrainian annual photo-exhibition of art and documentary photo “Ukraine, My Ukraine” has opened at the National Literature Museum. The exhibition displays 130 pictures, selected by the jury from 937 ones, submitted by 91 photographers from 16 regions. The exhibition has been initiated by the Culture and Tourism Ministry, national Union of Artists of Ukraine, national literature Museum, Mainstream Communication and Consulting company and Digital Photographer magazine, Cabinet press office reports.

Acting head of the national union of Artists of Ukraine Luiza Miroshnychenko admitted to variety of styles, genres and topics of the submitted photos.

Representative of the Culture and Tourism Ministry Halyna Kolmykova also noted that the exhibition is peculiar of its fresh ideas. She gave regards to the participants of Culture and Tourism Minister Yuriy Bohutskyi.

Despite technological progress, the main about photos is ability of a photographer to find a moment and describe reality in an unusual manner. Authors of the best works collected prizes. Among the winners Eduard Khytryi from Rivne, Vitaliy Sipko from Vinnytsia, Oleksandr Zadyraka from Kyiv and Valentyn Sychynskyi from Odesa.

Yanukovych does not want to impose NATO on Ukrainians

Intrusion of opinion about necessity to join NATO does not contribute to improvement of relations between Ukraine and the Alliance. Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said that today at plenary session of leaders of foreign diplomatic representatives to Ukraine, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

“Intrusion of opinion to society concerning Ukraine’s accession to NATO does not contribute to improvement of Ukraine-NATO relations,” Yanukovych said.

According to Yanukovych, taking into consideration this issue, budget 2007 includes means for financing of explanatory information about NATO. Government works on it gradually and we consider it is a right way,” he said.

According to Yanukovych, confrontation in society concerning joining NATO is consequence of Presidential elections (2004) and parliamentary elections (2007).

At the same time Yanukovych noted that Ukraine-NATO cooperation contributes to modernization of Ukrainian army and creation of European collective security system.

President calls to decrease deficit in budget 2008

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko calls to minimize budget deficit for next year in the draft of state budget. He said today, the ForUm’s correspondent informs, referring to president’s press service.

According to the President, budget deficit has been increased for last two years. He also noted that borrowings market for two years comprised UAH 10 million.

“This rate forms range of problems for next calendar payments, that’s why I demand minimization of state budget deficit and substitution of funds borrowed on home and foreign markets by means of resources that we can get due to rational fiscal policy,” Yushchenko said.

Yushchenko calls not to politicize Ukrainian-Russian relations

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko calls not to politicize Ukrainian-Russian relations. He said that today in Kyiv in scope of session of leaders of foreign diplomatic representatives of Ukraine.

He expressed hope that with time politicization of bilateral relations with Russia will gradually disappear. “We understand more and more that Ukraine is independent country that provides independent inner and foreign course, basing on nation interests, organizing its interests with interests of our strategic partners,” President noted.

According to him, today’s level of relations shows that two parties stand for constructive efficient actions. First of all it concerns negotiation process on work of sub commission concerning Black Sea Fleet.

He noted that in the near future Action Plan concerning placement of Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation in Crimea will be signed.

Tymoshenko calls not to participate in extraordinary VRU session

BYuT will not take part in extraordinary session of Verkhovna Rada initiated by Speaker of parliament of the Vth convocation Oleksandr Moroz. The BYuT leader Yulia Tymoshenko stated that during press-conference in Izmail, Odesa region, visited within the framework of pre-election tour around regions of Ukraine.

“All political forces must claim that they will not participate in this session”, – marked BYuT leader.

Russia to own Crimea?

Advisor of Russian Embassy in Ukraine Vladimir Lysenko made a statement in Kyiv concerning Black Sea Fleet. In particular he said that Russia can reconsider Agreement from 1997 concerning Ukraine’s status of Crimea peninsula. According to Lysenko, it may happen in case authorities of Ukraine keep pressure on Black Sea Fleet based in Crimea.

Lysenko noted that Russia agreed to make inventory of objects of Black Sea Fleet. Kyiv demanded it but Russia will not be patient in case further pressure on the Black Sea Fleet.

“If Ukraine raises question on increase of lease rent within inventory, does it give grounds for reconsideration of Agreement from 1997?” he said.

“I think that in case Black Sea Fleet leaves Crimea, American ships will be placed here, that will not pay rent at all,” Lysenko said.

In turn, the Foreign Minister of Ukraine Arseny Yatsenyuk said on Sunday that Ukraine will not reconsider conditions of lease of Ukrainian bases by the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation. Yatsenyuk noted that Ukraine does not demand preterm withdrawal of Black Sea Fleet of RF.

“We must fulfill everything we signed concerning rent, despite somebody likes it or not,” Yatsenyuk said.

President demands change in social policy

President demands change in social policy

Viktor Yushchenko urges that reviewing the social policy is one of his priorities. “In 2008 we shall launch new social initiatives aimed at supporting our citizens: starting with the baby and up till the old people,” the President said in Chervonograd (Lviv region) during the Miner’s Day celebration, president’s press office reported.

Viktor Yushchenko is convinced that the economic development of the country allows for higher social standards. The President believes the changes should first of all be aimed at families with many children, military men, and pensioners. Special attention should be paid to the teachers and doctors, especially in rural area: according to Yushchenko they should get 20 per cent payment rise starting from the next year already.

The President called for his social initiatives to become the work plan for all the Ukrainian politicians despite their party affiliation.

Viktor Yushchenko also congratulated everyone on the Miner’s Day emphasizing the importance of the coal-mining industry for the country. He also sent his best wishes to people of Galicia on the Independence Day.

Chervonograd mayor Igor Chudiyovych said the town supports the President. Director-General of the coal-mining company “Lvivvugillia” Volodymyr Garbuziuk also greeted Victor Yushchenko.

About 20 thousand people came to meet the President in Chervonograd.

Yushchenko: There will be no extraordinary VRU session

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko is convinced that there will be no extraordinary VRU session. He said that in scope of his speech at 8th session of leaders of foreign diplomatic representatives of Ukraine.

“I am convinced that parliament will not hold extraordinary session and will not make revision of the laws that may lead to a violation of the Constitution,” he said.

As a reminder, chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the fifth convocation Olexander Moroz said that the session of Ukrainian parliament would take place on September 4.

In turn, Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense” will not participate in it, but Raisa Bogatyryova (PR) supported this idea concerning extraordinary VRU session.
