It is impossible to hold elections and referendum simultaneously

Onyshchuk: It is impossible to hold elections and referendum simultaneously

To hold referendum on changes introductions to the Constitution together with early parliamentary elections on September 30 is almost impossible. The People’s deputy of V convocation, deputy head of headquarters of “Our Ukraine”-“People’s Self-Defense” bloc Mykola Onyshchuk told the journalists today.

According to him, during that time left to early parliamentary elections it is difficult to hold relevant referendum.

He explained that referendum on public initiative demands observance of complicated procedure. In particular it requires formation of initiative groups, signatures collection, decision of the CEC and corresponding decree of the President.

“That’s why from our point of view it is impossible to do it for such short period of time,” he said.

At that he added that signatures collection for cancellation of people’s deputy immunity, initiated by “Our Ukraine”-“People’s Self-Defense”, will be enough to formulate session of new elected VR.

Inflation increases considerably

Zhebrivsky: Inflation increases considerably

At the moment the State Budget of Ukraine is absolutely misbalanced. Inflation rate is quite furious in Ukraine. That’s what people’s deputy of the V convocation Pavlo Zhebrivsky said to the Razom site.

“We have fixed the inflation rate at 2,2 % in June this year. Usually the inflation rate in June is 0 % “, he noted. “The indices predicted by the Economy Ministry will be exceeded considerably by the end of the year,” he said “The government does not know how to cope with price hikes on oil products, agrarian products and foodstuffs. The government does not know how to provide social expenses. It could not prevent highhandedness of the Tender Chamber that had blocked any kind of investment into Ukraine’s economy. It means that the government can’t rule financial resources of the country”, Pavlo Zhebrivsky said. “The next government will work hard. We enter the electoral process with such “achievements”. It will be necessary to take many efforts to drag Ukraine out of economic collapse,” he stressed

Stavniychuk: President will reinforce CC

President will reinforce CC

Stavniychuk: President will reinforce CC

Maryna Stavniychuk, President Viktor Yushchenko’s deputy chief of staff and representative to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and the Central Election Commission, hopes the Constitutional Court will soon be effective again, president’s press office reported.

“The Constitutional Court of Ukraine is the only body of constitutional jurisdiction and has the authority to interpret the country’s constitution and rule on the constitutionality or unconstitutionality of governmental decisions. So it is principally important that its rulings should be objective, politically neutral and based on the experience and moral authority of its judges,” she said.

Stavniychuk said President Yushchenko, as guarantor of the constitution, would spare no effort to reinforce the Constitutional Court and ensureit restores its high status and reputation.

“The Constitutional Court of Ukraine is working in very difficult conditions. Its justices should produce their rulings …relying on the constitution which contains lots of contradictions. The desire by some political forces to determine its rulings in their office makes the situation even worse.”

She said this had led to the Verkhovna Rada refusing to swear in the judges of the Constitutional Court for no particular reason. The judges have repeatedly claimed they work under enormous pressure since they were sworn in. No surprise, the Constitutional Court has produced only six rulings over the past several months and three of them are illegal, she added. This has undermined the nation’s trust in the Constitutional Court.

Stavniychuk, however, said the Constitutional Court worked much better now. She called onUkraine’s president, cabinet and parliament to renew the people’s trustin the Constitutional Court.

EU will not cope with Ukraine’s Euro integration

EU will not cope with Ukraine’s Euro integration

European Commission Chairman José-Manuel Barroso in an interview, published today in “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”, has claimed that in the foreseeable future Turkey and Ukraine will not be able to join the European Union.

“We have taken the responsibility to hold negotiations with Turkey. The negotiations are one thing, and the accedence – is another,” the Head of the European Commission said.

Answering the question, whether Ukraine is a European country, Barosso said: “Definitely. But, neither we, nor Ukraine can cope with its joining EU now.”

As earlier reported, ex President of Poland Alexander Kvasnevsky called it quiet real the prospective of Ukraine’s joining EU in 2020.

But, as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Germany to Ukraine Reinhardt Schäfer claimed, the European Union at the official level didn’t consider the year 2020 as the possible date of Ukraine’s joining.
